lol reminds me of when I picked up Gardens of the Moon, looked at the dramatis personae, and put it down.
Best decision that could be made in regards to Rand's harem is to get him to have flings with all three women but settle on Min. Min is the only one worth a damn anyway.
Elayne and Aviendha should be paired together as a clean an easy way to close the loop without bringing another character.
The bond(s) and pregnancy are the hard parts to meld in without acknowledging the harem.
Fuck, even as an anime it would be waaaaaay to expensive to make with any decent amount of quality.

And to think, this all comes off the back of that one company producing Winter Dragon low key simply to keep the rights and it being so incredibly bad that they instead lost the rights to the show.

My favorite fantasy series. For this to work though it definitely needs a big budget. Compared to Game of Thrones everything is larger in scale. And like others have said, they'll hopefully be able to trim out of a lot of unnecessary fat. Hopefully it lands at Netflix/Starz/Amazon/HBO/AMC

Big mistake. Very cool moments in that series.
Also, book two and onwards are SO much better than Gardens of the Moon. I mean on a purely writing and story-telling level. Gardens of the Moon (which I still really enjoyed) is sadly a poor introduction to a really interesting tale.

The three last books before or after he started it again?
I remember the original last book had half of it spent in a Longest Yard remake, which really put me off, and then everything was solved with convenient magic that the protagonists didn't even work for.
And that's before he restarted the series recently and spent half of a new book reading a wall.
Given how well Sony did out of the Outlander series it makes sense that they'd try and snag this too. The question is where are they going to set it up? Does Wheel Of Time have a big enough following like a GOT to really bring people in?
Talking of Outlander I wonder if they will shoot this in Britain, perhaps in the makeshift studio set up they had in Scotland? Hmmmm.

Since use of the one power is rather frequent (except maybe for the first Season or so) this is going to cost a lot if they don't want that the "magic" looks like ass/cheap.
Hm, they are probably going to rather tone down all the politics and infighting and build up the Seanchan as an easy to understand "villian" force beside the "dark side" of the Power.
Another problem is to really show Rands (and the girls) internal struggle with the power. Probalbly going to be all "dream" sequences or something.

While Game of Thrones was a pretty popular book series it was hardly well know to the general public until after the TV show blew up. I'd expect the same for WoT if Sony can pull off a series and people jump on board.

Exactly, a well produced series based on WoT that generates positive buzz will create demand for both the show and the books and increase its overall popularity. You saw it with both The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones. They were already big deals in their respective worlds that exploded in mass popularity as those shows got more publicity. I predict Outlander is going to have a similar explosion in popularity this coming season, so the potential for WoT is strong.
ASOIAF/GoT as a whole is not a fast reader (size and complexity) but WoT is two level more of that. Doubt that the books will get that popular. When i think how old i was when i started WoT... lol i was 15 or so. I'm over double that age now and finished the series 2 years ago.

All of the gaggle of Golden Girls adventures, (i.e bowl of the winds), yes.
Best waifu Aviendha? No. Her plot arc with the past and future of the Aiel was awesome.

I will admit that Aviendha is by far the best of the three girls. But consider this: If Rand eventually gets with Egwene (which I think would be an interesting twist since they are kind of on opposite sides for the latter half) Gawyn has no reason to exist.
Yeah, that will be interesting. I wonder how they will show his dialogues with Lews Therin.

But who Rand gets with wasn't Aviendhas most important trait, it was the fate of the aiel.
The visions of the past and future were one of the peaks in the entire series.

I'd be fine with Aviendha - theres just so much stuff to compress into a tv show I wonder if its even worth going into the past and future of the aiel. Theres a lot of really cool stuff they'll have to cut.

Yeah, they will have to cut a lot. I just don't want it to be Shanara'ed again where the actual peaks of the books are cut out while some shit tier teen drama is put in.
Plenty of cruft to cut out but the high moments make the series.
i've always been scared off the idea of ever reading this by everyone saying how long and aimless it gets
and I say this as someone that has read a lot of fantasy books over the years and is not opposed to the idea of long books in general

As dumb as the harem is, there's too much there that's connected to other things that are useful. Likewise, the Seanchan don't really pay off - but it's so tied in with the Forsaken that it would take a lot of plot massaging to remove it entirely.
And if they start making huge changes, we probably end up with something like Dorne in GoT. No thanks. I'm trying to think of huge cuts like this that have gone really well and I'm coming up short. Streamlining a bit but sticking closer to the material has provided some of the best moments in TWD and GoT. Big changes/cutting whole things from the plot has led to some convoluted messes.
Happy to be corrected on this, but while I'm marginally irritated that everyone needed that Rand dick, it's also not the worst plot aspect of the story by far. There are a lot of threads that just didn't really play out.
Pretty much this. Big fan of the series but I'll start believing when the cameras are rolling.
I mean, in terms of book sales, GRRM is probably only just catching up to Jordan and that's after 6 seasons of the TV show. The books are pretty popular already.

While the overall plot revolves around Rand, I never considered the series to be about him. When I explain the series to people, I tell them it's about some village kids forced to leave their isolated village, who end up growing into the big movers and shakers of a world going through its apocalypse.
I imagine some heavy changes would be needed for the sake of pacing. I also imagine some minor scenes in the books would be given more focus because they'd make for good tv.

Like when Rand executes some of his own people to keep his law. It was a couple paragraphs, if that, but I imagine it would get a very intense scene because ambiguous morality involving executions would make for good television.
Likewise, I expect things like Mat's duel with Couladin to get a huge episode instead of happening offscreen.

One thing to note, when they first revealed this TV show they said the series was specifically about Eye of the World. It may not move on to other books at all.

That...Doesn't seem like a lot of content for a whole TV series. Just season 1 to start with maybe?
The Wheel of Time was the big high fantasy series out there, and even a Song of Ice and Fire got a big boost because the writer endorsed it. However, it translates much more poorly to screen so I wouldn't expect the TV show to get anywhere as popular as Game of Thrones.
I doubt that they'd okay more than 1 season to start with.

Why do you think that? Much of the books are scene descriptions, and it's got a lot of action in it. I think it'd translate quite well to TV. Potentially better than Game of Thrones, which is like 90% politics and intrigue.
