Dear beloved NINTENDO, please fuck you directly, thank you.

Especially when we know for sure that some game collector eđition will be exclusive to Japan.
I hope you will fail "à la Wii U".

wow, goes to show what a piece shit this company actually is, that someone had to literally plead with them to realize they needed to include that to really sell the concept.

It is not a bad company that produces something and then wants to sell it. Your product is what creates value. Reggie being an excellent marketer was able to convince them that there was more value created with the pack in. It is business not friendness. No company cares about you. They care about your dollar.

Tariffs have nothing to do with it. If they did, the system would be cheaper in Europe, Australia, and Canada but more expensive in the US. But that's not the case. They're the same price (generally, adjusted for exchange rates) as the US model in every other market except Japan.
Tarrifs just got announced today, the presentation and price announcement was done before that. Expect to pay more than that announced price.

629$ for the console or 699$ for the console and MK here in Canada. What a bunch of loonies :messenger_tears_of_joy:

They can keep it at that price

I highly doubt it. People are freaking out about tariffs but ignoring how badly every other country has been fucking the US with their own for a long time.

But this strays too close to politics so I'll leave it there. Tariffs won't do shit.

Switch 2 CAD $629.00 + tax. Each game $89.99 + tax
No way in hell. I wouldn't pay more than CAD $300.00 for it and $59.99 for the games of this quality

Switch 2 with Mario Kart - 500 USD
Switch 2 Pro Controller - 80 USD
MicroSD Express Card - 55 USD

$635 USD and I'm only including the Mario Kart bundle because it would be beyond foolish to buy the SKU without it, but even the cheaper SKU brings you to 585 USD for a total of 512GB of storage. For what looks like a last gen console.

Yet people were complaining about the PS5 Pro at 700 USD with a 2TB storage drive...

It's honestly wild to see who is praising the Switch 2 today and had pitchforks out for PS5 Pro... The Series S is a better deal than this thing.

Honestly my only issue with the Pro price was not including the disc drive and the 50 cent vertical stand with it. And I'll still die on that hill.

As far as the switch 2 goes, I think the console is priced fine. But the games. Woof.

I am being entirely earnest and not cynically exaggerating when I say that after seeing the prices (in combination with the underwhelming lineup) after the show I instantly abandoned the excited plans I had to buy one of these immediately upon release.

I now think I probably won't get one for a year or two and then it'll have to be used games. I've just realised that I can't justify this outlay to play Metroid Prime 4 this year, even though I'm super excited about that.

I'm out!

Problem for me isn't the hardware price, but launch games and their prices. Paying more than ps5 and series s/x games for a system that is doing last gen graphics…

About a month ago I predicted a June release and a potential price of ¥60,000 when talking with a friend who lives here too. Well, I could have *never* predicted Nintendo would charge an additional ¥20,000 for fucking language support, absolutely insane no matter what the reasoning is (weak yen, international buyers etc).

I always give credit where it's due though, thwarting scalpers by requiring 50 hours of Switch online play is great, one of the few bright spots in an otherwise lackluster (and sometimes shocking, hello $80-90 games!) reveal.

Does this put SW2 into an enthusiast/fan territory? How many middle income parents would rush to get this for their kiddies? Surely I am not going to be one of them.

I actually don't mind the price too much as I have already a lot of switch games and I'm super patient for sales and price drops.

What I DO mind are region locks. I hate them. So it's becoming a pass for me.
What sales are you talking about? Does Nintendo have sales? Right now breath of the Wild Switch 1 is almost $60 in Amazon for example.

They're counting on FOMO and a lack of alternative holiday/birthday presents pushing people towards Switch 2 regardless of the price.

I think they're in for a rude awakening, but we'll see. Maybe they're right, but I what I'd be willing to put money on is that there won't be very many two-three Switch 2 households at least not at this price and with this SKU.

I think they saw how well the Switch OLED sold and figured that people would be willing to pay more for a more powerful system with the right exclusives. They put zero effort into the features of the system outside some genuine quality of life stuff like the magnetic joycons. The mouse is a really dumb idea and I actually wonder if they'll make it compatible with a Bluetooth mouse or release at some point an official mouse.

Yup.

I'm finna drop 6 hondo on technology from 2013 just to get the console experience which is all I care about (handheld has little to no value for me).

Insanity really. This makes the PS5 Pro look like an absolute bargain in comparison. Where are all the YouTube shills crying about FOUR HUNDRED AND NINETY NINE USE DOLLARS for this?

Even DF is at it again glazing it and overlooking the price and the increased price of games... Imagine if it was Sony doing this...

They were talking about Cyberpunk dropping as low as 540p and they were STILL glazing it... 540p with no RTX and no DLSS... can you imagine?

And I bet Sony will drop their own handheld by holiday season 2026 and the thing will be 500-600 dollars with better battery life and PSSR equivalent to FSR4 and DF will shit all over it... Save this post.

John was also excited that Nintendo has a method of making a fake digital cartridge and requiring you to download full games with physical keys despite crying about how he doesn't like the trend of PS5 discs not having a fully playable game without requiring updates through an internet connection (I can't stress HOW MUCH he cries about this)

You can't make this stuff up.

I totally agree. I don't feel that there are any significant feature differentiators for their mainstream audience. Not sure how iterative improvements, combined with an increased cost of hardware and games will fare here.

Imagine their focus on voice chat in 2025... as if it was a groundbreaking feature.

That didn't help GameCube...

Nintendo is significantly more popular than their GameCube days, particularly with Pokemon being on the hybrid unit.

Without a massive price cut I expect this thing (with competition) to end up selling around 70-80 million units.

Metroid isn't that popular, but Mario and Zelda are, but a lot of those sales are casual pick me ups.

I think ultimately after less than a year, Nintendo will drop the price significantly and more in line with the Japanese regional price. I doubt they're selling it at a loss even in Japan and if they are, it's not by much.

The max BOM on this is 350, meaning a price drop to 400 is easily achievable.

The big launch game is Mario Kart World and then a long list of third party games. Then there's a bunch more releasing over Summer. Was there anything specific game you wanted the release day for?
The big game I'm interested in is Metroid Prime 4 but I think that still has a 2025 date. I mainly interested in Switch 2 for that. Depending on availability I might stick with the regular Switch 1 version for that.

This is to stop people from using the cheap Yen to buy a Japanese Switch for much cheaper than their local currency, thus shorting the supply in Japan. I don't think this will affect special versions.

No mention of any type of DLSS/image upscaler? Presume it has something like that though.....
There's zero chance that it renders natively at 4k and zero chance that Nintendo's invested in any R&D.
It's whatever acronym Nvidia uses for upscaling on every other portable.

I haven't really kept up with the thread, but what's everyone's thoughts/feelings coming from a Switch OLED?
Are you day 1 Switch 2 or waiting out for a Switch 2 OLED model?

I'd have to say I play my Switch 70 (docked) / 30 (handheld) tbh so it isn't a massive deal breaker loosing the OLED screen.... But its still a shitty downgrade to an LCD, what were they thinking?!

Have they raised the US rrp for the tariffs yet? I can't imagine they won't be making this thing in Vietnam and China - unless consoles are exempt. 30% to 40% is quite a bump.

So if I buy the console, a decent controller and a game this thing ends up being more expensive than a PS5 Pro

That is a baffling choice by Nintendo

The price announcement was made prior to the announcement on the tariffs. There has been no indication of whether it will affect the price of the Switch 2 and games yet. I doubt that Nintendo will absord part or all of the tariff, if they are enforced. Stock that is already warehoused within the US should not be affected. Future stock and resupplies may be.
The end user is the one that suffers most from this.

Not seeing the outrage about the price. It's launching for not much more than the base Steam Deck LCD did in 2022, and it's about $50 more than a Switch when adjusted for inflation. Big fucking whoop.

I also don't know why people are negatively comparing the price to a PS5. A brand new portable versus a dedicated console, which is in its 5th year of manufacturing costs optimisation, is an apples to oranges comparison.

Guess what - the PSP was $100 more expensive than the PS2 when it launched.
