I was thinking I can get a nice price for my Switch with MK8 and Smash, but these games will for sure be BC and I might regret it. Although I do wonder how often I will go back to MK8 after I have World, but still. The Switch without any games, I doubt I'll get much for it.

I don't want to miss out on the excitement of playing World with friends on day one, but at the same time it's just for one game! Because I don't have Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom, I'll have to buy them. I might just wait this one out.

In Australia, Switch 1 games ranged from AUD49 to AUD79

Switch 2 games range from AUD79 (only street fighter 6 and a very few others) to AUD 119.
I have no problem with PS5 games being priced at 120AU, as stupid as it is, as the prices of games come down so quickly. On top of that Sony have really aggressive sales on PSN. I see no such luck for Nintendo software.

Yes and street fighter 6 is only cheaper as it coming with the new blank card where you still have to download the game as it's down as 50-60gb download , I wouldn't be surprised if cheaper games shown like donkey kong are the new empty carts in a box where u have to download the game and the Mario kart at top price is where game fully on it

I'm not going to lie: the price of the console is... well, not cheap. But as soon as I saw the sensor that limits noise and picks up your voice perfectly, I immediately thought that the bill was going to be expensive.
It's probably just rebadged RTX Voice.

It's honestly wild to see who is praising the Switch 2 today and had pitchforks out for PS5 Pro... The Series S is a better deal than this thing.
It's honestly insane how Series S just got a new lease on life, and yet Microsoft probably won't be ready with any stock or promo budget to take advantage of it.

John was also excited that Nintendo has a method of making a fake digital cartridge and requiring you to download full games with physical keys despite crying about how he doesn't like the trend of PS5 discs not having a fully playable game without requiring updates through an internet connection (I can't stress HOW MUCH he cries about this)

You can't make this stuff up.

Mr Rogers Clown GIF
Because he was seeing it as a replacement for the existing option of shipping games with a code only. In that context it is an improvement.

Any one else surprised that XGS had no presence at all at this Direct?

I was expecting CoD, MCC and Sea of Thieves to show up for sure.

they might want to announce those in their own streams, or they didn't get dev kits, given that they are still technically a competitor.

Nintendo seemed to be very selective with their dev kits if the leaks are to be believed

Switch 2 with Mario Kart - 500 USD
Switch 2 Pro Controller - 80 USD
MicroSD Express Card - 55 USD

$635 USD and I'm only including the Mario Kart bundle because it would be beyond foolish to buy the SKU without it, but even the cheaper SKU brings you to 585 USD for a total of 512GB of storage. For what looks like a last gen console.

Yet people were complaining about the PS5 Pro at 700 USD with a 2TB storage drive...

The Series S is £249 whilst you can currently grab a PS5 Slim with Astro for £329. The Series S is a bad deal every which way at the current RRP.

Although the Switch 2 pricing is absurd you don't need to pick up and SD card or extra controller. If you want to do list wars the Pro isn't the machine to do it with considering no stand or disc drive.

Finally watched the Direct and I got say...felt like a big wet fart.

Before you point guns at me and start shooting I do own a Switch.

But man, Switch 2 feels so lackluster in terms of functionalities and most of all games. The way they try to sell you things that have been around in the console space for the past 15 years like they are new and revolutionary, jesus christ.

Mario Kart World and DK Bananza look cool, but not a generational leap cool.

While PS5 Pro is a clear mid-gen update, Switch 2 feels like a system that is trying to pass as a new system all together but in fact ends up being another mid-gen update.

And those game prices...I'm afraid what they will represent if people cave in. If Mario Kart World can be sold at that price, PS6 games can for sure be sold at an even higher price.

We can assume when the Switch 2 OLED comes out for $500 the total would be $635 and $685 USD. Plus Nintendo Online if you want game chat or anything else $50 more. I don't need plus to voice chat my friends.

Nintendo not showing the price of their games in Canada... I wonder if they are figuring out a way to import directly to Canada.

Maybe Nintendo Canada being present again will make a return?

Anyone have a link saying how much the kirby and the forgotten land upgrade will cost?

90$ u.s... still can't believe it

Prepare yourself for 126-138$ CAD games with taxes 🤡

What sales are you talking about? Does Nintendo have sales? Right now breath of the Wild Switch 1 is almost $60 in Amazon for example.
It goes on sale by a little but still enough for me. That or I'll buy it used instead.
But either way, it's being a hard pass for me. I do play Dead Or Alive Xtreme 3 on it. Being region locked will prevent me from playing it lol.

Back to N64 game prices + an extra $10. And I thought Canadian N64 prices back then of $90-100 were bad. Now, they will be about $110-ish unless Nintendo or the store wants to subsidize it down to $100.

If your wages have not increased at least 40% since 2020, it's reflection time. My company hires sober people with a pulse for $25hr. Same work that would have netted $15hr in 2019. We're talking zero skills. Just the ability to come to work on time and mostly sober.

Pretty crazy when at best we can hope for a 99$ price tag. After that we can maybe hope for first party titles to go on sale at 80$ during black friday lol

I'm.. ok with the console price. It's the games.

And the fact they never reduce prices of their games. Hell they couldn't even offer a launch switch and swansong wiiu game at a reduced price.

Breath of the wild should be slashed in price. Then you can add your upgrade price etc to it.

But I'm not buying it for this. The only real appeal of this console is that's it's a more powerful example of the existing hardware. That'll be enough for the hardcore gamer but not enough for the casual.

They'll have an uphill battle. Yes it will break records initially but things will slow.

The fact they didn't just announce the price on the stream is so odd..
Yes odd but they knew it would get backlash and they knew a lot of YouTubers would upload their impressions as fast as possible and not see the price.

And that's what happened.
But unfortunately for them a lot of YouTubers have been forced to address the price since I'm standalone videos haha

So.. not sure that worked. They might have been better off announcing the price first and then trying to justify it and leave on a high.

Not seeing the outrage about the price. It's launching for not much more than the base Steam Deck LCD did in 2022, and it's about $50 more than a Switch when adjusted for inflation. Big fucking whoop.

I also don't know why people are negatively comparing the price to a PS5. A brand new portable versus a dedicated console, which is in its 5th year of manufacturing costs optimisation, is an apples to oranges comparison.

Guess what - the PSP was $100 more expensive than the PS2 when it launched.
its pretty sad when even kids know that inflation is a bad thing and here we have adults using to defend the price of their beloved product, what a disgrace.

A small amount of inflation is good for the economy.

You should get your economic education from economists and not literal children.

a small amount

I Cant Modern Family GIF by HULU

You said "inflation le bad" which I corrected you on.

And if you think it's not a small amount: the Fed's official target is a 'low' 2%. Since covid, inflation has fallen to 2.8%, and the average of the last ten years is 2.4% - that's with weathering the worst public health crisis in a century. Many economists recommend targeting between 2-3%. If you want to see what a bad level of inflation looks like, take a look at Argentina or Turkey. Wages have outpaced CPI anyway for the last few years.

I'm not gonna stand here and listen to you badmouth the greatest economy the world has ever known.

The first Switch 2 trailer was on January 14th, on the 16th I had an interview for a position close to 6 figures, I didn't waste my time

So the game-key card stuff......are those resaleable or are they permanently associated with your Nintendo account?

So do we think a new 3D Mario could be announced and released this year or nah? I mean Donkey is July, right? Mario could be holiday.

And then the question is, will it be Oddysey 2 or something new?

They design the console around the Mario 3D of the console, it's unique each time, showing all the new features of the console. Sunshine even had the project code of the console as the setup for its story.

Interesting. Then let's hope we see something this year.

Having seen more direct game footage today I'm OK with the $450 console price. The games look phenomenal. I do wish the game prices topped out at $70 though.
