Sony X800D well - reviewed, 4k+HDR TV with low input lag

I'm waiting to see what those Z9D series TV's Sony has coming out can do. They are supposedly amazing looking but I'm hoping the input lag isn't terrible with HDR on.

Let us know how the test footage looks. I'm just interested in how it performs just google HDR test video and you'll find stuff to download and check out.

Took a few pics but none of them came out very good.

Left is BvS 4k HDR bluray right is the normal bluray. Both running on a Xbox One S.

In person it is easy to tell, HDR is way brighter. In explosions I had to blink it was so bright. Really amazing.

Is this sony tv definitely confirmed as 10bit HDR?

Thanks for comparison looks really good.

The open window on the left is affecting the picture of the TV close to it.. Put a blanket over the window and do again lol :p

But yeah, you can definitely see a difference. I bet in person it looks awesome!

Its a sliding glass door and that's with the blinds down lol. I'll get him to re do pics at night time so sun doesn't matter.

I gotta say the last pic shows it off the best, the explosions are so bright it makes you squint a bit. While the 4k thing is debatable, only really see a difference if the TV is huge or you are up close, the HDR is the real deal, instantly looks way better.

Now to wait for Forza.... Only UHD bluray we have is BvS lol

Isn't the clouding way more visible when using HDR?

So is the Sony 800 model confirmed to be 10-bit? Thanks.

EDIT: And is the power cable included in the box or do you have to buy one separately? Thanks.

I wasn't in the market for new tv, but I want to use the pro to the max. I'll end up getting the Sony and place it on my gaming desk. I use a Benq at the moment and the response time on those are fast. I just get used to response time on the Sony.

I'm leaning heavily toward this set. I game on a 42" so kinda thinking of spending the extra cash for the 46" this is going in my bedroom and don't really have the room for anything bigger. ill prob wait till after the ps4 pro drops to pick one up with hopefully a Christmas bonus.

Xbox One S says it supports 10-bit (just had to go into settings on the TV and turn on enhanced HDMI ports).

TV has an external power brick that is pretty large, about the size of Xbox One's power brick but 1/3 as thick that comes with a detachable power cable.

As a note, the power brick is only for the 49" model.

Problem that I found with OLED In general is that the HDR is not good enough. Also kind of forgot where I read about it but 30-40ms supposedly the lag with HDR on.

OLED is really great at black and dark scenes, but can't go as bright as current LCD.

Your own useage should have an impact one which technology you go with, If you use your set in cinema like conditions mostly, then OLED may make a good choice, however if you do a lot of daytime gaming , then a really high Nit LCD is going to be a better choice for you.

Quick question:

Anyone know where to buy this TV in the UK? Moving into a flat with my girlfriend and we were looking at getting a 4k TV in this price range, but can't find this on UK Amazon or anything. :[

No offense but what's the point of this?

Low quality pictures of hdr content isn't going to help anyone.

Agreed but some people requested it, we don't have a camera that can really show the difference. All that it really shows its the color and brightness of the HDR, thinks that's the best you gonna get without seeing it in person.

While it's not the most ideal comparison, you can definitely tell the difference between HDR and non-HDR, specially in color highlights and whatnot. Should help some people see what HDR does.

Thanks for posting, .hacked.

Yes, but the only thing those pictures do for uninformed users (and I say this in a non derogatory way) is "HDR=oversaturated colors + max brightness". Which is not what HDR is about.

If someone from the uk does purchase this set, please can you report back if the set does support 10bit HDR. I wanna be sure its the same as the US model (looks the same) As has been mentioned info on the sony site is flaky and it wyd be nice if someone with an xbox one s or other device can comment. I plan on buying the sony in dec, but if anyone gets it before please let us all know :)

This is looking favourite for me....but I'll be after Dec now, so you sir, have inherited the title of....Donkey Tester.

This was not thread worthy.

No, it definitely was. I own an Xbox One S, and I have a PS4 Pro preorder. Having a good 4K television to use these devices with is genuinely one of the most pressing issues in my privileged first world life at the moment, but I'm not wealthy enough to afford a $1000+ setup. I haven't taken the time to sift through all of the GAF threads that would offer information on the subject, but now that I've seen this thread my decision making process is nearly wrapped up. I'll be buying this today.

I ordered the EU model for 700€ a few hours ago (I think the shop put it up with wrong price, it now shows the MSRP of 899€, I just checked). If my order goes through (it hasn't been canceled yet at least) I'll report back how the 10bit gradient samples look (banding etc). Not sure what else to do as a consumer to determine bit depth.
I know I said I wanted to wait but couldn't say no to a hypothetical 200€ off for a mid-entry level model ;_; And with Forza Horizon 3 HDR coming up...

Can't wait for the 4.0 Firmware update this week. Can anyone speculate what the HDR features are going to entail for those of us with HDR capable tv's?

Congrats! I'm curious aswell as this seems to be the best choice for me. Unless something else appears after December this looks to be the one for moi.

Well it's not about pleasing anyone, it's about not sharing misinformation.
When people want comparison pictures the answer should be it's "not possible".

shit sorry for trying.

HDR is cool you can see shades of details in the glow of batman's eyes. No pictures will do justice, took a vid but it is no better then the pics so wont bother posting it.

Look forward to playing some HDR games, if Destiny patched in HDR I think my eyes would bleed.

Nice one cheers. Yes i will be getting this model and it seems the best bet for sony fans. I have always bought sony tvs. Bravia is quite simply sublime

I found a Sony 65" X850C for only $1000 a few weeks ago.

Can anyone tell me if I'll be able to notice a difference between HDR and Non-HDR content?

I looked at RTings.com and while it is HDR compatible and has a 10-Bit display, its max brightness is only 260 nits.

What's the EU model? Interested on this.

Not going to get 4K TV under 60".

Same. Hell, I'm not feeling anything under 65". Hoping to find something that does HDR10 and has decent input lag for around 1300 on Black Friday, but if it means waiting another year I'm good with that.
