I have a question
I went and checked out this tv at my brothers house today.
So I enabled enhanced hdmi, i plugged it in two. And all that did was allow RGB 4k and said HDR supporting up to 4K(I think it said 2k before)
but we went to the menus and switched HDR on from auto and all of a sudden everything was more vibrant. We were playing rainbow six, with no support for HDR in form of a patch....so whats going on is this basically forced HDR?

No, you want to leave it on auto. If a game doesn't support HDR, it doesn't support HDR. Don't force an arbitrary vibrant image for no reason. Anyone can blast their color, brightness, and contrast settings up to do that. You want an accurate, inoffensive natural image that doesn't give you a headache after an hour play session due to the brightness of the screen. HDR isn't about it being bright, it's about more color gradients and having when appropriate, intense color to represent naturally intense things (i.e, an explosion, or a brake light of a car at nighttime, or the sun etc.)
All settings on this TV should be left to auto. As should the settings on the PS4 should be on auto.
Edit: Wait, are you telling me your brother had his Pro connected to the wrong HDMI ports and didn't have enhanced HDMI on? Ugh, I'm concerned this may be a problem. These TV's are not user friendly. Can you imagine somebody playing on this TV with it connected to HDMI port 1 without turning on enhanced HDMI and thinking to himself, "what's the big deal, it looks the same."
So I'm correcting in thinking it forced HDR? In R6 there was a nasty side-effect with bloom in the game being exaggerated so the visibility was even worse than usual when looking out the window...but I would be lying if I said it didn't look visually pleasing apart from.
My brother had it in port 1 I think, I watched this topic to know about the tv to suggest to him in the first place. I even knew about the enhanced HDMI through here. I personally tinker with my stuff and admittedly it isn't obvious.
If the game does not support HDR, then you are simply screwing up the color palette, the gamma, and in this case, the video level as well when you turn this on. In short, don't do it.
HDR is metadata sent along with the HDMI signal, its not something you can turn on... its actual data, coming from a data source, not your set, which is a data display (sink).

To me, it doesn't make sense to force HDR on with a game that hasn't been coded/designed for it.
I'd just leave it on auto.
Honestly, it's a bit alarming to think how many people are doing this without knowing better.
EDIT: Also, R6 hasn't been patched. So if it doesn't look 4k or 4k-ish, don't worry, it's because it not even 1080p if you think about since it was using dynamic resolution on the base PS4.

I know this thread is more about the TV, but have any of you been hooking your new 4k HDR sets into receivers? I am planning on getting the 49" Sony 4k HDR set soon, and the eventual PS4 Pro, and am looking to find out if either of these receivers will pass through the 4k and HDR signals to the TV...

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, if anyone can recommend a really good 5.1 receiver I'd appreciate that as well, since I am most likely not going to take advantage of the extra channels on the 7/2 receivers.
So, according to a friend who has the Pro, the Slim, and the Sony DH770 receiver, he is telling me that the receiver will not passthrough an HDR signal from the Pro. If you turn the receiver HDMI port to Enhanced (needed for HDR) the Pro doesn't output video to it. Non-HDR 4k works though.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?

...and 60 hz. HDMI port 1 or port 4 on this TV does not allow 60 fps.
Only port 2 and port 3 do. And of course, as you know - you then have to turn on enchanced HDMI in the settings to get HDR up to 4k.

What about 30 hz or 60 hz?
Apparently that's a thing now. Certain ports on a 4k TV will do 4k/60, some just do 4k/30. So I imagine that's also a concern on receivers to be wary off. Try a different port on the receiver.
Check the ps4's sound and screen settings -> video output information. It tells you everything there.
I would make sure that whatever HMDI input you are using has 'enhanced' capability (they may not all support enhanced) and also make sure you are then plugged into the correct 'enhanced' HDMI port on the set as well (port 2 or 3 on X800D)

I can verify that this TV communicates properly with the PS4. So TV on Auto and PS4 on Auto and you're okay.

All HDMI ports are 2.0 and HDMI 2 and 3 are 2.0a allowing for HDR. So all inputs allow for full 4K at 60hz but only HDMI 2 and 3 will allow for HDR or 4:4:4. 60 hz is not 60fps.
Yes. Leave it at auto and it engages whenever HDR is allowed or it is receiving an HDR signal. Changing HDR to on yourself will just blast and saturate colors.

Anyone with the 43", cna you do me a favor and see how secure your ac cord is to the television. The 49" comes with a detachable powr brick, but the 43" cord comes attached direct to the tv. Does your cord, at the point of connection with the television wiggle or even turn almost 45 degrees to an angle. My television was moved causing extreme tautness on the wire and when I looked, I noticed the where the power is connected to the television it was severely angled.
Can anyone check their 43" for me. Don't use any force or anything but see is it a loose connection or does it not move? Because if so it might mean mine has dislodged etc. Ive straightened and moved it back and let the cord have slack but it was turned almost over the screw on the bottom right.

There's definitely some play to it. (I tried to remove it during initial setup for cable management reasons so I wiggled around quite a bit but no harm done)
Does it move sort of like a pendulum clock in a sense. Slightly left to right. At least I can breathe a little sigh of relief that it wasn't necessarily dislodged and that there is some play to it.

I set everything to auto as well and got that on my 43.
What I will say is that I followed the rtings settings but changed from their warm tone to the neutral tone. I then upped colour saturation (I think that's what it was called) to around 60-65 as this gave the screen more colour

Is this a good 4k HDR tv? I managed to get it (on the deal for £530) but I know next to nothing about 4K tv's.
I presume it's not as good as the TV this thread is referring to?

It's great TV, one of the best entry-level HDRs screens that can be bought in 2016.
Samsung entry 2016 4K "HDR" model has a little lower latency, but it does not have 10bit panel or WCR so the HDR implementation in it is a bit pointless.
This model is the best we got in 2016, and it is a good one.

A 32" 1080p has the same pixel density as a 64" 4k TV. So, if the optimal viewing distance of a 32" 1080p TV is 5 feet, then the optimal viewing distance for a 64" 4k TV would also be about 5 feet.
On my 40" 4k TV, I have found that I have to sit within 3 feet to be able to see all the detail that resolution offers.

Im seriously considering buying a 4k tv and the sony tv looks very tempting right now. One question remains for me and that is 1080p content.
How does HD content (Movies, games) look on a an 4k tv? With the option to select a better graphic mode in Rise of the tomb raider i do wat to make sure that hd content still looks good on an 4k tv.
Any experiences gaf?

How's the HDR on this TV? Many people make it sounds like it is dim compared to the KS8000, but what about on its own? Is it still impressive HDR performance? This is the main thing keeping me from pulling the trigger.

I have only tried games on my 4k TV (Samsung KU6290), but 1080p games look great.
On my Xbox one s, they don't look great when setting the Xbox to 4k. But, if I set the output to 1080p, the TV does a great job upscaling.
PS4 Pro does a better job upscaling non-pro games, but I still prefer to set the Pro to 1080p and let the TV upscale when playing non-Pro games.
Also looking to hear thoughts on this. I have a ton of blu rays and I'm not quadruple-dipping this time...

At my normal sitting distance, the default upscaling didn't look appreciably different than my previous, 3" smaller 1080p Sony (40" HX853) without tv scaling. But if you switch to 'Graphics' picture mode and make sure 'Reality Creation' is left to the default OFF, you get sharp, nearest-neighbour upscaling of 1080p inputs. Each 1080p pixel maps perfectly to four 2160p pixels without interpolation.
I sit just over 3 metres away from my TV (10 feet)
So rather than buying a 43" 4K tv (the max I can afford) would I be better off getting a 50" 1080p?

Sitting that far back from a 43" you may not notice much of the added details. I use this as a computer monitor, so I am maybe 1.5 feet away and it's a stunner. 10 feet back? I personally would go for a 65'' 1080p, or ideally wait until sales next year and swoop up the KS8000 55 inch.

I was in a similar position. I chose the Samsung since it was nearly half the cost ($330 vs $650).
The Sony might be worth paying an extra $250 depending on how well it displays HDR. I think it also handles motion better too. NES Classic Mini has some ghosting issues on my Samsung.
I would rather have the x800d, but the price did not make sense for me.
The KS8000 seems like a much better value at $1000 than the x800d does at $650. Having a 40" 4k TV has made me realize every inch counts. So, the extra 3 inches (compared to the 40" Samsung) on the x800d is definitely a plus. But, even that might be too small. 55"+ seems like a good size.
