Sony X800D well - reviewed, 4k+HDR TV with low input lag

Hey man. I got my 50 dollars but only due to the fact that I did it within the 14 day period. I asked about you and they said no. Also, its only price matched for the base price, not anything extra. So you only lost out on 50 dollars. I took a look at the other tv's There, and by and large the X800D Is the best in terms of price, lag, and HDR. So, you're in the clear.

I'm still pretty happy with the TV, so the refund is minimal. its too bad,.
 
I have the 55" version of this arriving tomorrow for our lounge / main TV. Very excited!

Our current one is a 4 year old 32" so this is a massive upgrade
 
Ok so i took back the 43 inch and exchanged it for the 49inch for the same price

Where on the back of the 49inch do you plug the power brick? I must be blind cause its not the same as the 43inch

Here I downloaded the reference guide for setup and this is what it shows for the 49. Should be a dc input on back left side.

I wouldn't say dogshit. Input 1 can give you 4K at 30hz and 24hz which is best for film according to the manual. I still haven't gotten around to full testing. But all HDMI ports are 2.0 and 2 and 3 are 2.0a giving you 4K/30hz for all guaranteed, 2 and 3 give you full HDR.
 
Might be wrong. But I hook up my PC to HDMI 1. From my understanding and what i have seen, i am running at 4k @ 60hz. My games, running on a GTX1080 will mostly do native 4k running at 60fps. With Shadow Warrior 2 i get HDR that from what i have seen is not banding, but i should do a closer inspection, and the mode set up in NVIDIA is set to 10bit even tho it has an option for 12. Not sure if that holds up if i set it to 12.

HDMI 2 and 3 are both set to "Enhanced" and i've had no issues running 4k HDR on my PS4 Pro and XB1S. On the XB also testing 4K Movies.

So again, i might be full of it and my pc should be plugged in to a different HDMI, but so far, what i have experienced on it looks pretty good as is.

Am i missing something?

I know hz doesn't equate to framerate.

But a 30hz signal can't do a 60 fps game right?

In anycase, I wonder what happens when you plug the Pro into HDMI slot 1. If it's like my samsung, the Pro will just default down to 1080p.

Well, the most important thing to test is the eye test. Are you good at spotting 60 vs. 30 fps? Because I'm not sure how you're getting 4k output at 60 fps on an HDMI input that's rated 30 hz. But if the eye test works, than - that's that. You're good to go.

Also, is there a good way to get the output image on my PC to show up on the TV. Without using an HDMI cable?
 
So I just got this bastard and decided to put on The Crown on Netflix since its what I know is 4k off the bat. Holy crap, I can make out every pore on these Limey's faces.

Just so you know, everytime you change your video settings, it only does so for that dedicated input. So maybe you're looking at your settings under a new input and that's why it seems to change.

Because on my input 2 (playstation 4) the settings save. I just set it, and press the back button to back out. Light sensor was set to off, and stayed off. I don't know what else to say.

I got a 49 and I'm wondering how you guys are setting brightness between non-HDR and HDR content. By default it seems to just max the brightness when in HDR mode on an input. Right now I have non-HDR brightness at 15, and brightness in HDR mode at 30... and that seems to get both in the same ballpark in terms of overrated brightness.

I sort of feel like they want you to run it at max brightness in HDR modes for maximum effect, but I'm just not into the retina scorching.

Make sure your aren't skipping frames with the ufo frame skipping test.

You have to take a pic of your screen. It has instructions.

I can set my h8c to 120Hz and it passes the ufo test you posted but not the frame skipping test (it skips every other frame so it's really still 60hz). The x800d I understand also can accept a 120Hz signal but since it's a 60Hz panel it will also skip frames.
 
I bought the 43" but I'm not sure whether I'm supposed to turn HDR on manually in the options or not as it doesn't seem to use it on PS4 pro at all when it's on auto, and I'm finding the brightness only affects the backlight, I have so many questions but I loving the tv so far!

HDMI ports 2&3, check your settings to see if enhanced HDMI content is turned on.

Have you set the TV setting to Auto... and the PS4 HDR option as well?

Stick on a HDR game such as Uncharted then turn the INGAME HDR setting on.

Then when playing push the ACTION menu on the TV Remote... choose picture and the word 'HDR' will be up in the top of the black bar that comes in from the right of the screen if the tv is displaying HDR

I asked the same and didn't get an answer, but I'm pretty sure the corresponding European models are KD-43XD8005 and KD-49XD8005.

EDIT: It may just be the "KD-43XD80" part, and the last digits differ between EU markets? Here in Sweden I'm pretty sure what I said is correct.

EDIT 2: I think the 8088 is the same model for the UK...?

EDIT 3: Ok, The UK seems to have 8077, 8088, and 8099, and I THINK the only difference is the color. So, anyway, KD-43XD80XX is the answer.

Ah! I'm embarrassed to admit I had HDR set to on while on the tv and the PS4P was on auto, I will try looking in the options on the game and switching the tv back to auto.

That shouldn't have really been an issue though... but give it a whirl. The HDR icon after you enter Action menu, picture is the giveaway :)

Ok, cool. Now, what's the 8005? That's the only one (for both models) that seems to be available here in Sweden. Just a single color option here I guess? Meanwhile, the UK seems to have to have the 8005 for the 55", but not for the 43" or the 49". Very confusing.

Yeah, it's just the colors/stand I think. I have the 8005, it comes with the silver, longer stand and anthracite bezel. Basically how the TV in the rtings review looks like.

Q: I have found evidence that this is 8-bit with dithering (no way a true 10-bit panel can be so cheap). Isn't that what we think it is? I've heard there's no colour banding with 10-bit content, so I guess it doesn't even matter.

The review linked to in the OP says it does indeed have a 10-bit panel.

What are your thoughts on the h8c? It's my other choice aside from the x800d.

Unfortunately I'd have to import from the US, only factory direct sells it here refurbished and I don't want to deal with that. But if it's $200-300 cheaper I'll live with it lol.

It handles a 10-bit signal properly (no banding) and supports WCG. What evidence is there to the contrary?
 
So i got a question, are there any big differences between the XD8005 and XD8305? Things like the panel and other matters like between 43XD8005 and 49XD8005?

Only things i could find out is that the XD8305 has 2 tuners and 800mhz (i believe through software) refresh rate.

Can someone tell me more about the differences?

Based on reports of the 49 Sony having gray blacks and a bad contrast ratio, and it's relatively unimpressive nits rating, I'd go with a 55h8c hands down. If you are looking for a smaller tv, id go with the 43 Sony.

The Hisense has amazing pq, blacks, contrast, and colors looks great for rec 709 content and it has 80-86 % of dci p3 for hdr content. Hdr games and movies look great. It also has local dimming so black bars look like the screen isn't even on. The 55 inch is a steal.

Are you in the UK/EU?

I believe Hisense has an m7000 there that is actually a bit higher end than the h8c but his still very affordable.

Currently on a lightning deal @ £770.

- 4K HDR:
HDR stands for 'High Dynamic Range' which offers a whole new level of colours, especially when in the brighter end where normally they would look washed out, HDR can actually give more clarity on these colours.

Unfortunately though, until Sony release a patch up for the PlayStation Pro so it can recognise the TV's capabilities (this is affecting a lot of models of TV from various brands, including Sony's own), I'm stuck at 2K resolution when using it in conjunction of the HDR feature.


Is this because he's not got it in the correct hdmi2?

Is this the tv that has 33ms Input Lag @ 4K HDR Game Mode?

Any idea of what the Input Lag is?

Also, this local dimming - does it mean you constantly see a dimming and lighting when going from light to dark scenes or light elements within a dark scene? I used to own a Samsung and a Sony a while ago and they drove me mad when I was playing Bioshock

Also what bit panel is it? 8bit or 10bit?

And last one lol! - What Nits is it?

And yes, that dude probably never heard of the enhanced HDMI or Deep Color HDMI etc (no clue why a) manufacturers use different terms for this, it's not even a marketing bullet point and b) disable it by default). It takes 4k60 HDR from my Shield TV, PC and Xbox One S just fine so I don't see why the Pro would be some special snowflake.

There is no evidence it is an 8 bit panel beyond Rtings having goofed their initial review. The fact it is a triluminous display panel with a WCG should be strong evidence it is 10 bit since it actually has better color display than other known 10 bit panels like the KS8000. 8 bit FRC and dithering make it very hard to tell without manufacturers chiming in though.
 
Since lag seems to be part of the discussion today I was just wondering if lag on the 49" has been tested? The rtings tests are on the 43" specifically.

I know contrast ratios and viewing angles differ between the two sizes.
