Where's that last 4 years of exclusives chart picture thing? Go find that and get back to us. You have to know that you gave your company names backwards. And I don't think PC heritage means much after they've shut down most (all?) of their PC Studios. You want 10 quality games a year at a smaller budget, you want the Puppeteer and Ni No Kuni type deals.
So guys, why are y'all leaving Japan Studios out of the discussion? What do you think those hundreds of people are working on? Vita games? AAA JRPG? Knack 2?! I'm actually starting to become glad some of y'alls expectations are so low. All the better reactions for the E3 thread.
I'm not talking about the last 10 years, I'm talking about what they have in their back pocket, what they can pull out with nostalgia and who has the franchises embedded in deeper in gaming culture (fasa, ensemble, lionhead, so much pc goodness). Dont get me wrong, GT, god of war, and Uncharted have done a great job of helping sony build renown and brand knowledge, but I still see MS having the stronger IP library to draw from.
The problem that i really have with sony is that they never really invest into their franchises as much as they can. I dont see why they dont brand drive-club under the GT franchise (GT:drive clubcfor example) and explore how their investments can cross genre boundaries like we see with forza (asset sharing, technology, new game modes etc). But I digress, this is the more business side of me speaking.
I think Sony has a lot of potential with titles like warhawk and socom, they are under utilized and can offer some really interesting branding potential. A squad based socom rts, like an xcom game, can really offer sony an opportunity to re-introduce the franchise back into gaming lexicon so they can build to a really strong tps/fps in the future. It can give depth to the socom universe, some base concepts to build from(remember halo started out as an rts, there are ideas that can be developed and incubated there). Warhawk too is under utilized, release a 10 dollar arcade dog-fighting game like classic crimson skies, get that dogfighting refined to something amazing, build up an awesome story and release warhawk 2 as a full title with campaign and MP modes.
SCE Japan seems to be doing a much better job, hence I'm not as interested in seeing their games, I know they will be well polished, well considered and supported. But i also think that SCE japan has a lot of unused potential. Why not hand off some of those dusty IP's to a talented western studio and give them some good creative freedom to build on the IP for a western audience? Philosoma, it's vague enough that a studio can run far with it. A title that would make for an awesome western game, hand it off to a team and let them make a sony metroid out of the franchise.
Sony's getting better, but i just sense they're in the shadow of the highly marquee ms and nintendo franchises, and they really need to re-structure their focus, and carve out their own niche.
So like i said, i want to see non aaa games from sony, i want them to really structure and build the future of their franchises for this generation. We know those big block-buster titles are coming, we know uncharted is on its way, we know a god of war and gt will come down the line. They don't need the attention, the press and the fan base will build the hype for sony on their behalf, but where/how is sony fostering their new potential block-busters? MS is trying with titan fall and killer instinct models. Why can't we have a warhawk in the same vein as titan fall?
You sound extremely entitled.
not entitled, just disappointed. My ps4 is sitting here, and there is a depleting library of games for my 360, and i'm getting more and more pressured to pc gaming, even though i'm not a fan of it. I just dont think now is the time to be trying to sell your console on 1-2 games a year because of a myth that AAA games sell consoles, when variety and content will do the job just as well. There's no reason calling all cars and fat princess aren't out on the PS store.
