The battle at the end was pretty cool, though it irked me a little to see Tiberius fighting and killing the hardened badass pirates and Spartacus' guys. His ass was immediately whupped by Crassus' sword instructor, yet I'm supposed to believe that he could hold his own against pirates and former gladiators? wut

;__; what

Crassus' instructor was a champion of the arena that was purchased at great cost.

The guys Tiberius killed were probably not even gladiators. A lot of the slaves they've recruited and trained for their army used to be miners or do other manual labor.

OK, I am now firmly in the "Fuck Naevia" camp.

I was really expecting Attius to kill her which would cause the rift. I liked him a lot, he looked like a young Bronn (Game of Thrones). So I hope she can die fast. The pirate is awesome though.

By the fucking gods, that episode was awesome !

That Naevia is such a bitch, can't believe she killed him without any reasonable proof; she needs to be put down !

fuck Naevia, hope she dies a horrible death

and good job kid of getting a lot of romans killed and making spartacus and the pirates work together at a point when they almost went for each other throats

edit:
Programming note: STARZ is taking periodic weeks off during the run of this final season in order to air "catch-up" nights. So no new episode next week, with the fourth episode airing on February 22.
ugh -.-

Naevia is easily the worst part of this show. Ever since the actor palette swap she's been terrible

Am I the only one who was confused by Naevia in that last scene? Why did she lie to Spartacus and the others by claiming she was attacked? Why not just tell them he was betraying them and sought to kill him? It just came across as such blatant character device designed to demonise her to the audience

Why is one lie better or worse than the other?

She murdered an innocent man. I don't think trying to pass the blame onto someone else would make her look any less shitty to the audience.

Well I guess mission accomplished in making Spartacus and his shits the official villains of the season. Right now I feel I'll be glad when the romans lay waste to these scumbags. :p Especial Naevia. Mad cunt indeed. Woman should've died at the end of S1 if she was going to turn into such a horrible waste of screen presence.

Not really feeling this episode. Definitely missed Crassus and Caesar (even though Caesar appeared for 30 seconds), surprised that I've become attached to the "antagonist" through only three episodes....they've done a good job making him intriguing.

Naevia needs to fucking die already, what a terrible character totally separate from the one we met in S1 - Blood and Sand, I can't even link the two in my head at this point.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. aka starz wants more money

Because she's covering her own ass. She has no proof that he's betraying them, she knows he's Gannicus' friend, and she has only her mistrust of Romans to go by. I think the demonization of her character mirrors the experiences she's been through though, don't think it's totally out of left field or out of character. Hoping that she's going to die soon since they seem to be playing on the fact that nobody likes her anymore. Maybe Gannicus will kill her when she goes off the deep end and he finds out that Attius was innocent.

I don't see Spartacus and his crew as complete villains. I've actually grown a lot fonder of Spartacus this season, and sympathize with him more (aka trying to remain noble in the face of perhaps necessary savagery). Gannicus too. Crixus and Naevia however... there's a clear rift forming.

Four favorite characters this season:
1) Spartacus
2) Gannicus
3) Attius
4) Pirate captain

Gannicus/Saxa vs. Naevia/Crixus mixed tag match incoming?

I can completely buy Naevia going off the deep end with the shit she was put through.

I don't think Spartacus is the villain, things just got more... realistic or grey. Rapes, mindless killing, etc are an (unfortunate) consequences of war, especially when you lead an army of unorganized brutes. If anything, i thought S2 deception of war was pretty silly and black and white most of the times.

Some thoughts about the characters:

- Naevia has been constantly terrible, yeah. I blame the actress. Like it wasn't enough, she bringing down Crixus character.
- I like Agron, but Agron/Nasir is pretty meh to me. I really don't like Nasir and i don't think they have much chemistry.
- Spartacus has been much better this season, maybe because he had more things to work with compared to last season.

I also want to make my thoughts clear on the sex: sometimes it feels like they have a quota of minutes to fill in each episode for this. Why not just use it when it adds something to the character development or story? Every week, it's a damn drunk orgy

I mean, the last guy that he killed was one of the tough badass gladiator guys from Spartacus' group. And he killed him with one arm while he was wounded. It just seemed a little unrealistic to me.

We got to see Agron and Nasir get it in.

I am satisfied.

I was hoping they would have a threesome with that hot pirate guy. :(

No because this is Starz* and the show has always been softcore porno and gratuitous violence first and foremost. It just happens to be pretty good in other areas as well. Accusing the writers of lazy and mindless tna four seasons into a show like Spartacus is silly.

Well, after three episodes I'm not really feeling this season at all. It's just boring. At this rate, I won't be sad to see the series end.

The slaves, save for Gannicus, bore me. Now that actually cool people like Caesar and Crassus are in the picture I'd like to see more of them than Spartacus' boring crew.

Fun historical fact. The show's portrayal of Caesar is quite correct. He was a young punk actually. Dressing weird. Partying hard. Getting wasted. Fucking pretty much annything that moved. Being sacriligious. Being involved in all sorts of scandals. Especially when he was young. It's the popular, Shakespeare inspired version of the man that is wrong.

Meh. The first season and the prequel were so good because they, at times, managed to make the violence and sex meaningful by tying them to important character and plot points. The first couple episodes of the show didn't bother to, and it was rightfully panned as stupid and lazy and ridiculous. It's also why the first episode of this season was so good. The fights between Crassus and his slave told us a lot about him. The violence was meaningful.

And I have no problem with accusing the writers of falling into laziness here and there. Season 2 was pretty lazy as a whole.

Interesting. Know any good books that focus on young Caesar?

Season 3 Gannicus: Fight,Drink, stumble, laugh, say something thoughtful, have at least a threesome, repeat.

episode is meh compared to other episodes

that final battle shows Spartacus should stick with smaller battles.

Writers r really trying to make Naevia hated character

My cock is magic, indeed.

Its funny that if it wasnt for Crassus Jr's intervention the pirates would have burned the slaves after the deal had gone south. And yeah, kinda shitty what they are doing to some characters like Naevia and other slaves just to make the romans more appealing for the sake of the spin-off. Gannicus is gonna get a really interesting arc this season. Am I the only one that assumed that Saxa was forcing the girl?

Hmm not getting all the hate for this season, I don't know guess it's just me, but this is probably tied with the prequel/season 1 for me. I couldn't stand season 2, but this one is keeping me on the edge of my seat. The last episode might have been a tad weak because of the lack of badass Romans, but I think when Caesar/Crassus finally clash with the rebels, the season will be even better.

Historical spoiler speculation (pirates):
Wonder if the writers are going to leave the pirate "betrayal" as a simple misunderstanding of historians, or actually have the pirates betray Spartacus later on. I think it would be cooler if that's left as a kind of historical reinterpretation.

Couldn't help but laughing when Tiberius rolled down that hill with like 12 dudes and they still went with a fairly far away shot of them.

This episode actually made me like Tiberius, he showed kindness to the soldier to the roman soldier and was visibly upset when Caesar killed him, he also assesed the possibility of the alliance quickly although the plan went sideways due not assuming the pirates had siege weapons.
