HOLY SHIT!

Look at that first sentence :O

!!!

!!!

Kojimaaaaa!

Is that bad?

Not at all. Great game.

Its bad because I didn't think to look for an MGS category before (mostly did TV, movies, and VG General). Looks like I will be addicted again.

Well, it says Ground Zeroes.

I was listening to those Grey Fox videos linked earlier in the thread, and i was thinking... how can they put so much exposition and characters into TPP? Seriously, they have to get into a lot of Grey Fox for Solid Snake to appear as an epilogue or to be part of the game.

Also.. i wonder whats the time span for TPP? if we see Eli as a kid... then chances are slim that we will do a time jump. no?

Well if the TPP map is anything to go by the game will be massive. I remember Kojima saying in an interview he is afraid people won't finish the game because it's too big.

Edit: Kojima Worried The Phantom Pain Is 'Too Big' to Finish

Well yeah, i have to agree. Chances aren't that high but i still BELIEVE!

Hang on... it clearly says SOLID too! Solid Snake CONFIRMED!

Only messing. Thread wouldn't be half as fun without you, man!

Maybe thats why he prbly got all emo and depressed when he saw GTAV...

I doubt the game will be so big people won't finish it. Also.. i am wondering how they will setup the game... is it all gonna be in just those two same locations? how can there be a time jump if its only jungle and desert?

He even quotes this himself.

"It’s not about clearing the story, it’s not about clearing the mission,"

Its fun to think about it. But it gives me a headache. I just can't see a change of characters happening in the game... or the fall of BB in this game. That is just way too much content.

1984 the game starts right? Outer Heaven is during 1995 in the region of Galzburg, S. Africa. Thats a long span of time for Kojima to set up building Outerheaven. But if Outer Heaven is built.. then where does that leave Mother Base?

I doubt they will scratch all your efforts put into Motherbase in the game to jump to Outerheaven, to then switch characters to play as Solid.

I just don't see it happening.

I see the game ending with the destruction of Motherbase (again) and the post game showing the establishment of Outer Heaven.

That would make more sense to me. Events leading to the building of Outer Heaven and its completion. But ditching Motherbase would be nuts. They have really gone into detail and efforts to make the base something unique. Discarding that at any point of the game would be really something else.

Also... if Kojima has learned anything from writing his scripts he should understand that fan service is never a priority. So swapping to Solid at any point would deter and undermine BB character development that has been presented in GZ and through TPP.

"there is a specific way for the games to put things together."

Maybe it has something to do with the orange line effects? maybe there is some kind of system in the game that let's us re-play very important MG1 and MG2 events?

Since Kojima aims to make this his last Metal Gear game maybe we play some very important parts of Metal Gear 1 and 2 in MGSV but he won't copy those games 1:1.
Because if there ever would be a remake of those games it would no way in hell be without Kojima and i think he wants to avoid this and somehow put those events in MGSV so he doesn't have to remake those games. Kojima would NEVER let his team ALONE handle a Big Boss and Solid Snake story. He gave them a try with Rising and they fucked up so i'm pretty sure he learned his lesson.

I feel kinda sad since The Boss is my favorite female character in videogames so if the next MGS game is a Boss focused game and is not with Kojima i'm very worried. But we'll see if MGSV is really Kojima's last Metal Gear game but i think with this game he wants to aim to be his last and to close the gap between SS and BB and doesn't want to end the game at MG1 but more like MGS1.

I doubt thus will be his last game. He has tried to get away, but he ends up doing the next installment anyways.

I would love love to see The Boss have her own game. She is pretty amazing.

I think he says that you will put things together... as in details and how the story sums up will make sense with the rest of the saga. I dunno if he would ever do a remake of both MG 1 and 2... he has included those games in MGS3 and the recaps in most recent games.

Anyways... i would not take this is his last MGS seriously. He's been saying that since MGS2.

Oh yeah guys, this finally arrived a few days ago. I think it looks incredible tbh, definitely one of my favourite MGS art pieces.

Yeah well we'll see but if the game really is THAT big i can totally see more characters besides Code Talker and Quiet, in fact i'm pretty sure we haven't seen all the new characters yet so i could totally see a Frank Jaeger, Naomi Hunter or a Sniper Wolf in the game.

Either way, i'm so excited!

7 days, 5 hours to go!!!

That's not Shinkawa art Dawg, you dun goofed.

Looks good :P

I see the game ending with the destruction of Motherbase (again) and the post game showing the establishment of Outer Heaven.

1975: Base destroyed
1984: Base destroyed?
1995: Base destroyed by rookie
1999: Base destroyed by same guy as last time

That would be 4 times total his base was destroyed if it happens in TPP. After the 2nd time you'd think there'd be no point. All that effort and bam, goodbye base!

I hear you. I'm sure it will all make sense in the end. I remember reading some analysis some where that presented evidence that Motherbase might actually be the beginnings of Zanzibar, which according to this theory, was being built concurrently with the Outer Heaven base.

and thus the problem with most video game sequels emerges. it's gamey, but if the base-building mechanic is embraced and loved, there's no question it will need to be integrated into future games. story will suffer a little bit from that, but would you have it any other way?

that's why i find the idea of a switch to solid at any point during this game as a playable character, other than say...the last couple of missions, makes no sense. you'd have to abandon the base-building mechanic. i really don't see kojima doing that. it's more plausible that we'd see a PW-esque "chapter 5," but even still, the base-building mechanic will need to remain to preserve that re-playability and continued progress that PW had.

that's why it makes the most sense to have big boss still recruiting people to outer heaven when this game closes out. so the player can continue to play side ops and recruit more soldiers, develop more weaponry, expand mother-base for base invasion MP, etc etc etc.

Just so you know, it doesn't seem like I'm gonna be attending the MGS event. It's either really exclusive for press, or Konami doesn't give a fuck about our site. I don't know.

Agreed. There is just no way they would scrap it. I mean.. it really did backfire with Raiden in MGS2. I remember when i played it i was... this guy is no Snake... who is this guy... wait.. what? Raiden?

I was not very impressed at after that point.

"The doors are open to the public – but, with numbers being very limited,"

Gamescom is crowded as fuck. Like, really. I have a lot of other stuff to do that day so I'm not gonna go unless I have reserved seats :P

Well on that link that i posted is your chance to get "reserved seats" ;)

but no i understand you, that's why i also watch the twitch stream instead of going to Gamescom. I mean it wouldn't be that far away from me to go there but i don't really wanna deal with a shitty place where i can't see shit or anything like this. Will go comfy mode, watch at home and talk about it later on GAF etc. much more fun.

I just saw the Konami twitch channel still doesn't have a "Source" quality option. We can't see 60fps without them getting partnered with Twitch. I asked Yuichi from Konami and he said he will e-mail them but if the stream is not in 60fps then we can later expect to find it all on the official konami youtube channel .....and hopefully Gamersyde ;)

To be fair, that was basically the intent. :P But yeah I was like that too.

Yea.. i understand and respect the intentions of MGS2. But to me... at least... was a very big disappointment. After that i would go back to play the tanker level since it was the most fun of MGS2. I wonder if Kojima would try to pull a stunt like that again. I think the backlash of MGS2 was pretty big, hence he doing BB in MGS3.

But bro the death star.... THEY TRIED rebuilding that shit.

brother!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kojima is the biggest troll in gaming confirmed.

Plays me like a fiddle every damn time.

Haha yeah man, sooo excited, fucking Konami press release said "Solid treat"!!! omg is that it? will we really see Solid Snake at Gamescom? Hhnnnggg

Dawg! Sn4ke got you out!

Way too late. I suck, i'm not a legend anymore.

Oh the salt that will be had when they show Solid Snake and the voice is not David Hayter.

Team D still alive and well! HURT ME MORE!!

What if Kojima pulls another switch-a-roo and has use play as Solid Snake most of the time and we don't get to see Big Boss till later in the game? Stanger things have happened.

I'm going to email them and day I can't handle it.

I need a release date now, Konami, Please!

Wish I could go to gamescom, sigh I'm in the UK so not like it'd be that hard either...

I wonder if Kojima reads GAF and just laughs...

I don't know if it was Tora who said it or someone else but Kojima does not read GAF...

Makes me wonder if he even knows about all those crazy theories.

I am offended that Team D is not on this list. It's as if we've been Null-ified...

The Boss having her own game sounds interesting but I'd like to have a story where we don't already know how it ends. Kojima would be putting himself in the same position by having to back track and stay within canon. Whereas a new unknown character in or outside the MGS universe frees him to start from scratch and build something new rather than be tied down by a 20+ year old series.

this was the most soul-crushing experience of my gaming life. i played through the entire game just waiting for it to switch back to snake. just an awful, awful experience. i've grown to appreciate it a bit since (though i still think it's the worst in the series), and i respect the hell out of the balls kojima had to do it and pull it off. but it absolutely ruined the game for me on the first playthrough.
