Spider-Man 3 is underrated

This is great. Spider-Man 3 was the best of the Rami trilogy. So much goofy fun.

It suffers from being the third film in a tired formula. The multiple villains was a mistake (would have left venom out). I don't think it was a complete failure, but what really annoys me about the film was the final scene.

Kind of like how the final scene in Spidey 2 focuses on MJ for the last few seconds before the fade to black.

It was so fucking dumb.

I mean that in the best possible way. As long as you don't take it seriously there's lots of fun to be had in it

The cooking scene is the worse set of scenes in the film. Emo Peter had the so bad it's good thing going on. That cooking scene on the other hand made me want to walk out of the theater because it was so terrible.

I agree with you OP, the trilogy works well as a whole. The opening sequences really let you get a feel for how cocky and unlikeable ego trip peter has become so naturally when he gets the symbiote on him he becomes even more of a pompous douche.

The movie gets too campy for its own good at times but honestly it works really well. It's the perfect punctuation to "with great power comes great responsibility" and shows how until the very end of the movie, Peter had completely forgone the whole responsibility part of that equation.

Also it brings an excellent conclusion to the harry vs peter thing. Even though Amnesia Harry is so hilariously and accidentally adorable. A straight up lost puppy.

The only problem with spiderman 3 is that raimi went the emo satire route when it should have been darkgritty for the venom parts.

The venom made him kill Sandman (at least he thought he did) and then go tell Aunt May that Spider-Man killed him. It also made him blow up his best friend and then walk away like it was nothing. I‘d say these were darkgritty. There‘s a lot of selective memory when it comes to the venom.

If the series was going to continue, I think they should have just introduced the Black suit and Eddie Brock and built up to Venom, but saved it for a sequel, would have been an awesome after credits scene that would have hyped people up. Would have alleviated the strain the movie has from all the baddies.

I also didn't like the dancing and stuff, just didn't come off right to me. But thinking about it, you are kind of right they it fits the Parker of the movies.

And uncle Ben retcon was dumb.

It certainly doesn't hold a candle to #2 but if you just don't think about it too much it's an enjoyable movie despite it's camp factor. Honestly, the emo Peter scenes just made me laugh, which I think was Raimi's intent. And if the whole dancing parts make up a small part of the entire film. Sandman was cool, the relationship between Harry and Peter was pretty well done, and yeah they dropped the ball on Venom but he was barely in the film anyway.

For me it's a 6.5 - 7 out of 10. Certainly not even close to the worst superhero movie.

I enjoyed SM 3 more than i did Man of Steel that's for sure. I didn't enjoy many of the popular super hero movies released in recent years (Iron Man, Avengers being two other "popular" one's that i couldn't get into).

Nope, the movie was poor and didn't leave a good taste in my mouth. Its only worth watching once.

The most watchable super hero movie to me is Spiderman 2 though. I can count on a single hand the number of super hero movies that I would watch twice or more.

This actually makes me want to watch SM3 again. My opinions may have changed because those videos were great.

I just watched in completion since the first time I saw it in the theater. Its not a bad movie at all. Messy but thoroughly enjoyable.

Completely forgot about so good.gif and had to pause the movie due to laughing.

Glad I watched it again.

The fact that people think it's better than ASM is alarming and horrifying. Nightmare fuel.

Whatever you think of ASM, at least it didn't nuke the fridge and take SM2 down with it. That fact alone negates it being worse than SM3.

Well, at least it was something, instead of air. :P

ASM isn't perfect, I would have liked for a better villain at least but I thought mostly everything else was very good. I guess SM3 had good music at times and the action was alright. The story was fucking horrible, the tone was laudable, and scenes like that forced breakup on the park bridge blew my mind that it was actually shot.

The only way I can picture someone liking it more than ASM is if Marc Webb literally walked into their home and peed on their couch.

I obviously lack the mental capacity to board this ship. It's over my head. I'm not out to change opinions as I don't have the power to do so, but it's just not something I'm ever going to understand. =\

He peed on my rug!

Chris Hayes is Spider Man

It always made me think of Mr Magoo for some reason.

It's not that hard to understand, really. For some, it's like watching a trainwreck. It's far more interesting to see what failed here and what was funny (intentional or not).

ASM feels dull through and through.

It was pretty bad if memory serves me, but I haven't seen it since it was in theaters. But it was still kind of a fun movie in its own weird way.
I'd take any of the original spidey flicks over the new garbage one though.

We need a Spider-Man movie with Carnage as the villain of focus. Make it rated R if you have to do it right, but they better do it right. Sadly, I don't think we'll ever see it.

Ideally they would have had Peter have the symbiote all throughout Spider-man 3. He uses it to defeat Sandman and Harry, nearly killing one of them in the process (probably more emotional weight if it was Harry). Realizing the symbiote is pushing him to extremes and making him more violent, he ends up getting it off via the church bells and it lands on Eddie Brock, praying for forgiveness at the same church as he contemplates suicide. Then we go into Spider-man 4 with just Spidey and Venom, with Eddie Brock/Venom messing with Pete and intimidating him throughout his personal life and as Spider-man.

Would have been a great culmination of things if it could have played out that way. As it was, they just tried to cram too much into the final movie of a trilogy to wrap it all up and it shows.

I don't watch this movie as a sequel to Spider-Man 2, or as a Spider-Man movie at all. I watch it as a standalone experimental film and I enjoy the fuck out of it. It's nothing if not entertaining.

They are all kind of shitty or kind of good, depending on your perspective and what you wanted out of them. The outrage over Spider-Man 3 is ridiculous though -- it's not appreciably better or worse than the first movie.

Nah, I agree, I don't think SM3 is better.

I will say it's funner to watch a train wreck, than an average forgettable train pass you by as safely as it possibly could. SM3 had those great Bugle scenes, and a crazy amount of gif moments.

TASM kinda goes by the numbers, and doesn't do much to stand out on its own. I think that's the sentiment being brought here. I didn't get it at first, but after watching it again some months ago, I gained this weird appreciation for the movie lol. Even though it contains some truly awful moments. OP is trippin' though, he's right about SM2 being the best, but SM1 is also better than SM3. I like TASM more though, because it doesn't embarrass the character nearly as much.

I haven't watched it since opening weekend, but didn't the symbiote literally drop out of the sky and land next to Peter with no explanation?

It practically fell out of space right into his pizza delivery bag. No idea why Sam Raimi dislikes Venom so much, but he certainly wasn't shy about showing that contempt on screen :P

Why do you need an explanation? You're telling me that a space rock containing alien life doesn't just land right next to the only superhero in New York?

I remember there was a scene where Harry and Mary Jane make some omeletts, and that was somehow supposed to be like a metaphor for them having an affair. lol.

Good answer :)
I just don't understand the hate for ASM, it's like the other movies but nearly every aspect is better.

Raimi's movies have awful CGI (even for the time), dull lifeless scripts and an appalling cast. Maguire and Dunst are just awful.

At least ASM is a competent popcorn flick, Raimi's movies are borderline inept. They are almost saved by J.K. Simmons but not quite.

I thought ASM was much better than any of the Raimi movies. I know this isn't a cool opinion, but I don't care.

ASM >>>> SM2 >> SM1 >>>>>>>>>>>> SM3

Pretty much. Lumpy weepy Spiderman is the worst, and SM3 was a terrible film made worse by the complete destruction of the Venom character. Sony may have forced him in, but can you blame him? Having a film center around Sandman, who isn't really a bad guy? So much yawn.

Nobody intended Spiderman 3 to be "so bad it's good". That is not an intentional decision. It's just a steaming pile.
