They took a cue from MCU Spider-Man. To quote Peter from Civil War, his Spider-Sense dialed his senses up to 11, so the expanding/contracting lenses help him focus. It also helps Peter emote with the mask on.

I feel that this might be the most important comic book game to date. If this is successful and at the quality Insomniac is know for, I might just want Disney to hand the reigns of Marvel games to Sony. Then let their developers do whatever they want with the licenses.

I meant in a more realistic sense. It helps bring MCU Peter more in line with the comics. In here, it's just a nice detail that lines up with the MCU & adds some subtle complexity to the suit.

Marvel has been trying to get back into the blockbuster games business for a while but said they were looking for the right opportunity. The head of Marvel Games just seems to like the way Sony works with third parties and thought it was a good match. It would have happened with someone else but they specifically picked Sony, and the opportunity was extended to Insomniac.

I don't think the story of how Sony wound up with publishing rights for a Spider-Man game will ever be fully told. Logical reasoning seems to dictate that this occurred as part of the negotiation between Sony & Marvel for the sharing of Spider-Man film rights to Marvel & the MCU.
Remember, prior to this, Activision had the rights to publish Spider-Man games, which they exercised almost annually until 2012 with 'The Amazing Spider-Man' film/game tie in that Activision/Beenox did. After that movie releasing is when talks between Marvel & Sony started for the transfer film rights transfer to the MCU. It's not hard to imagine that Sony negotiated for these rights during that time, seeing as how they were going to lose a good portion of the rights to merch. sales in that transfer.
The telescopic eyes? The comics just had his eyes grow bigger & shrink as a means to emote (we didn't question it because comics).
Yeah, no thanks. I actually want there to be a chance for MvC4 to happen in the near future. But given the whole Fox ban, I don't think Marvel would give the keys to the whole kingdom to anyone in fear that they may include characters that Marvel doesn't want them to include (Ex: Wolverine or Deadpool).

I was worried that it would be heavily stylized, which I do enjoy for some games, but I wanted a more realistic looking open-world Spidey, and Insomniac nailed it. The swinging looks great too.

The eyes? Those look like the same lense type eyes as the mcu there's even a close up, versus comic eyes which just emote by themselves.

Well the Amazing Spiderman games are, like the films, some of the most low-effort, "what's the point?" Tie ins ever produced. Theyre not even awful, just so so bland and mass produced.
