what? Diablos has been a Corganbot for longer than that. In fact, he's been so for as long as I remember him posting at GAF. :(
Bah, maybe it's been more than a year. I hope for him that his passion hasn't been that strong for more than 2-3 years, it's really not healthy.

I remember Diablos being like this during the Zwan days, so it's been a while at the least.

I was like that for ten years (1990-2000), and yes, it is not healthy.

Foreign Jackass is right, though. Diablos goes through this period where he says something is shit, and then three months later he won't stop talking about the band. It happened with My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth, and Coldplay. Pavement is on the rise.

Yeah, I can vouch for that. Diablos might be fickle with regards to other bands, but he's been a devout Pumpkins fan for many many years. :)

But anyway, Pavement influenced far more than lots of "crappy indie pop bands that all sound alike". You can probably thank Pavement (along with the Pixies) for early Weezer's sound, actually.

Rivers has acknowlegded the Pixies many times as a big influence, but I don't think he's ever mentioned Pavement.

Send me a PM JPRaup. I got everything Pavement/Malkmus, Preston School of Industry, Guided By Voices, Built To Spill.

Aeroplane is so overrated. I hate to use that term, but it really applies here. It's a nice album and all.. but I mean come on.

KID A should be number 1, and In the Aeroplane over the Sea should be in the top 5.
No album has grown on me over time like Kid A--from hate to love--and Idioteque (the song, not you) is the fucking shit (especially the live recording). But OK Computer is a more accessible album while still being absolutely groundbreaking...and it was Radiohead's first groundbreaking album...and its more consistent in quality IMO. I just think it deserves a higher spot in music history than Kid A. Although, I'll admit Kid A is still kinda growing on me...

And by the way, because nobody mentioned this.....what the fuck is The Strokes doing in a top 100 list, and a fairly decent one at that? It's catchy and can be kinda fun to listen to, but c'mon....every one of their songs sounds the fucking same, and after a short while Is This It just becomes so insipid. Pretty much the exact opposite of Kid A: I really liked it at first, but holy crap did I get sick of it quickly. I wasn't even aware of The Strokes and all their hype until months after ISI was released, but I never understood what all their pre-release hype was about.

ITI deserves to be higher, in my opinion (#75 or so, maybe even higher). It's a marvelous record, it manages to meld all these different influences while still sounding somehwhat original (no, it doesn't sound like Television. or the Jam. Or the Velvet Underground. Or the Stooges)... there's this certain magic to it that the Strokes failed to recapture on Room on Fire, and all the bands that emerged in their wake have yet to come close to. It deserves all the accolades it gets, IMO. Was it a fluke? Probably. But my what a fluke it is... I could listen to it everyday. People get caught up in the hype, in their image, in who they're fucking... but really, the songs are very well written.

Fever To Tell is another great debut.. glad to see it make the list.

Well, it's definitely an acquired taste. Once people 'get it', there's not much coming back. Not accessible to mainstream tastes at all, but where it really shines is in its lyrics, and yes, its vocal delivery. The emotion that Mangum can convey with that voice of his is just astonishing. And it really doesn't sound like anything that's come before, or anything since.

I agree that it should be somewhere in the top 5.

I "get" it, I just don't think it's one of the top 5 best album of the past 20 years. Yes, it's heartfelt, yes lyrically it's stunning, yes the melodies are beautiful ("... with those wings in your spine..." gets me every time), but it's been blown up way out of proportion. I mean.. is it really up there with a Kid A or a Loveless or a Homogenic or a Daydream Nation or a Soft Bulletin or a Discovery? I don't think so.

Yes, Joshua Tree won a Grammy in 1987. Besides - Achtung Baby is pure crap.
Until The End Of The World? Acrobat? Mysterious Ways? Motherfucking One?

No. Just no.

WTF...who dares to diss ONE???? And Mysterious Ways was a cool song as well.

That said, Joshua Tree is a better album...as is Unforgettable Fire. Gotta say it once again...the lack of Joshua Tree on that list simply boggles the mind. Maybe U2 turned those guys down for an interview this year.

I know, but I want to make him realize it. He used to piss on the Pumpkins too, before checking out their music. It wasn't even a year ago, too.

I remember a thread by Diablos about what, 8 months ago, that was like : OH MY GOD, THE PUMPKINS ARE GREAT, WHY DIDN'T ANYONE TELL ME ABOUT THEM, and then going on raving about 1979, Tonight, tonight and Today like there was no tomorrow. A month later, Corgan was the greatest songwriter on the planet. And now we must care about his shitty, reversing-revolving everchanging opinion on bands that we've been listening to for fucking YEARS? Come on, this guy's a problem that needs to be solved, and I'M UP TO THE TASK.

I believe you're thinking of Alphasnake. Diablos has been this way for as long as he's been on the forum.
