Well I'm not sure what you mean. There are several different ways to play with friends including Salmon Run. If those options don't work for you that's too bad but there are a multitude of options.

I thought league battle would be their solution to this (presumably allowing parties of 2 or 4 to matchmake against other players), but the requirements to unlock it seem a bit ridiculous. Queuing via the "friends" option is useless due to the forced 3+ minute wait time and possibly playing on opposite teams. I don't know why it's even an option. It's like they pasted it from Mario Kart 8 without realizing how dumb it is in a team-based game.

Splatoon 2 is my first experience with the series, and I'm enjoying the gameplay quite a bit, but the game's functionality is handicapping itself. Halo 2 had a functional party system in 2004 guys, it's not that hard.

Your options for playing PvP with friends are:

-Join in progress, wait 3 minutes, and prolly end up on different teams anyway
-Assemble a group of eight people (good luck) to play a private match

Nah if they removed Private Match as it was in 1 its a totally valid complaint. That's a net loss, and should definitely still be in the game.


Ashamed to say how long it took me to learn how to start Squid Beats. I thought the + symbol was the D-Pad. I like the mini game a lot. It's so much more refined than the original. Makes it an actual rhythm game this time.

Spent too much time playing today and had a total blast. Cant wait to do the same tomorrow.
 
Been at work pulling a 12 hour shift.

But i beat the first world on my breaks hehe

So is there any big dissapointments with this game yet, i havent read anything

Is the timed horde mode a problem or not

So you mean you want an option to play with a couple of other friends as a team against randoms online? Yeah that should definitely be an option from the start. It looks like league battle is the only option for that but I think it also requires a team of 4 friends. I don't have it unlocked yet.
 
How do you unlock all the Amiibo gear? I have the Inkling Boy Splatoon 2 Amiibo and all he gave me was the Ninja Hat. Everytime I rescan him all I get is the option to take pictures

Yes, party matchmaking vs randoms. I'm fine with the only option for that being some kind of ranked league thing, but the unlock requirements are insane for basic functionality that's in every other modern team-based shooter out there.

The first game's end boss was better.
Voice Chat is a convoluted mess.
Salmon Run isn't always available.

That's about it.

Yes exactly. I should be able to join 1-3 friends in a group and matchmake with randoms online. Just about every other online game offers this kind of functionality. And finding 1-3 friends online at a time is a lot more common than getting a full 8 people together. At least you -can- do this with Salmon Run (Which makes it even more weird that you -can't- with PvP), but Salmon Run isn't always available...lol.
 
i got freshness bonuses (weapon-based? I don't know how I got them) which sped up the 1->10 run.
 
The RNG in Salmon Run can be really cruel. A night round, followed by a frying pan round, followed by a boss rush? We never had a chance.

I managed to survive this yesterday. It was terrible and we all died atleast three times during that round. I'm still surprised we managed to get by.
 
Google and Youtube are no help lol. Really want the Ninja Amiibo outfit. Is there a 24 hour wait period or something in between scans to get it or what? Only have the hat so far.

Nothing matters except for how much turf you control at the end of the match. You need to focus on controlling the map. You can consistently score 400 points and only average 2 kills and still win the majority of your games if you know how to control the map and stay alive.
 
I have to say besides the voice chat being from the stone age, the phone app implementations of this game are fantastic, just ordered my first stealth ink shirt and can't wait to pick it up when I'm home later.
