Finally (at least partially) over the control-bump. Got the hang of it around Level 8. My left joy con had connection issues so I switched to Tabletop mode. It also helped that I went into a sitting position instead of lying on the bed. Also got the Airbrush cannon and from then on out came always on top on my team. Feels good. Not sure if should switch to Ranked just yet, though, heh.

I don't super jump anymore because of how much worse it is now.

I still do it but only when is a must (like in ranked mode sometimes). I avoid doing it for the rest because of how much cumbersome it is now.

And I still press X to jump and die because of it from time to time.

Marooner's Bay is so much harder than than the other Salmon run map, I'm struggling at 120% when I was struggling at 150% on the other one. The worst part is the damn grate right by the main bucket, I've fallen through that stupid thing way too many times!

What...? Super jump is fine on the buttons. Y'all need to do it more to help you team after deaths.

I don't know if I'm just bad at the game (pretty likely), but I'm really not enjoying any of the weapons in single player except the first three you get.

So glad to see that Defense and Damage Up are gone. Everyone should always have been on the same field in terms of health.
That and invincibility items are now what they should always have been.

With those gone (and this being portable) I can see myself sinking way more time into the MP on this one. =)

Any recommended newbie guides? Getting the mechanics down on just Turf War but not sure what to buy at first...

Best way is to just play. You can test weapons before buying them, singlepayer gives you some great practice with all different types of weapon and Salmon Run is good practice for teamwork and map awareness.

Oh, and you can also check out maps safely in the tower by selecting Recon in the mode select menu.

I think it's way easier on Marooner's Bay, there are some rounds on the Spawning Grounds where the water level is high and they spam steel eels and those flying missile bastards, and it's just impossible.

Think I'll play some single player before going back to Turf War to get a better handle on things. Thanks!

Flyfish are quickly becoming the #1 killer of Salmon Runs now that I'm at 170/175%. Nobody can aim a bomb to save their life so they just let it go, then the missiles start adding up.

Yup, there really should be a way to defeat them when the lid is closed. As soon as rain falls, or an eel is around the missile will one shot you, and you can't reach the launcher if it's the other side of the map.

I feel like it's taking me forever to level up. I can never quite get that top spot and get the big bonus. Feels way slower to level up in this one than the first from what I can remember.

i cant carry a team to win rank, nothing wrong with new players, but dont jump to someting if your not ready for it, so yes it is a good attitude when my rank is at stake.

I don't think they were talking about ranked. Also it's early so everyone is mixed up at the moment, you know you will be with the good players eventually.

Some random points most people seem to forget (myself included):

- Use your specials in Salmon Run
- When using Dualies, press B to roll (you can do it twice in a row)
- When using the roller, press jump + ZR to splat vertically

Question for you guys:

I am seriously considering getting this- I'm not much into competitive online multiplayer but I have had fun in the testfires and Splatfest, so I'm sure I'd play some of that. It also helps that there is a ranking system so that playing matches sorta help you progress.

But I would be buying this mainly (75-80%) for the single player. I'm currently addicted to Zelda Master Mode so I'm not sure how well I could split my time- is it worth it to get this now? Will everyone online be way better in a month so that I'll feel a little behind the curve?

It's not really worth it just for the singleplayer. The single player is goos, but the meat of the game is online multiplayer. There is a good sense of progression in multiplayer, you level up and unlock more weapons to use, earn money to purchase new weapons and gear, in addition to the ranked mode you already mentioned. There is also Salmon Run, which has it's own progression that gives you gear and other bonuses as you progress.

Splatoon is fantastic, but I don't think it's worth it only for singleplayer.

If you're okay with coop then there is at least a mode for you there.

The best go to ranked and it does pretty well in match making you with people of equal skill or well that was my experience with Splaoon 1 atleast.

In 2 people are rushing for ranked mode now so that could explain the big one side teams skills wise sicne it's still early.

I played Splatoon 1 for the first time this year and had no problem tbh and i suck at pvp games normally real bad too now i am doing fine and can rank first for the first regulary time since ever in a competitive game lol.

Also Salmon Run is good man so for that + singleplayer alone it's worth a buy. Now if nintendo only makes it so you can play it whenever you want:)

There's also salmon run which is more PvE and really, really good.

I never understand this. Just don't play the more competitive modes and consider Turf War & Salmon Run like a single player game with very stupid bots.

It's not like you have to interact with anyone or if playing with randoms involved deep strategy and planning or anything. I fail to see how what can be disliked about "competitive online multiplayer©" (which I don't like either btw) really applies to games like that. Same for Overwatch with quickplay and arcade mode.

At worst you'll sometimes blame an innocent over your own failures like the rest of us and call it a day

because you said:

I'd say yeah go ahead and get it. I'm not much into competitive online multiplayer either and yet I put over 1000 hours into the first Splatoon. it's a really great in that aspect. the fact that you had fun during the testfire and splatfest and said you'd play some online makes me think that you'd really dig it.

thank god my blaster is reliable again.

not being able to tell if this guy was going to take two indirect hits or three was a major pain in the ass, as was a squidkid suddenly turning kraken on you at any given moment

just turned level 7
i starting to feel this game is less about skill and more of a race to better weapons/clothes. I'm guessing the real game starts when i'm max level

better weapons and gear certainly help, especially when you use the right abilities to leverage the kit you're using and your playstyle, but it's still skill

Not really... Getting more options is good, true, but it's definitely more about leveling up as a player than as a character, if you get what i mean

Those things help but it's still all about being able to flank your opponents. Thinking vertically helps a lot to, using walls to climb up areas instead of foot paths, finding good hiding spots, learning when to push for the center when your behind, good use of your special. All of these are more important than gear.
