Can anyone link me to some sort of intermediate or advanced tips guide? I feel like I'm hitting the same brick wall as Splatoon. I'm consistently getting 2 d or 3rd on my team and have just under a 1.0.kdr (I think).

Trying ro figure out how to step up my game, but all I can find are beginner's guides that cover stuff I already know.

It's more or less taking what weapon you're comfortable with and taking that step further with abilities given in equipment.

I wouldn't worry about kdr, Splatoon isn't about just going after other players. I only attack if they're in my way or otherwise I'm gliding through the ink to another area to fill. You can do really good without even splatting a single player in a match.

What weapon are you using? Are you using motion/stick or sticks only? On average, how many points do you end up with?

Wow - playing handheld for the first time. After 20 minutes my battery is down to 85% and I'm not even playing multiplayer. That's crazy.

Don't like this system at all but at least it was fast

Might switch it later to salmon run if it's available

Back when I was trying to improve with Splatoon 1 shortly after release, basically discussions on r/Splatoon and various YouTubers were the best means of finding good information on tactics/movement tech and best practices for weapons/gear.

It's (obviously) super early for Splatoon 2, so a lot of the inner workings of this game just simply haven't been deconstructed/analyzed yet. Even though seemingly a lot has been pulled over from the first game, I'm thinking that's really only true for the broad strokes.

Having said that, I recommend you go digging through some archived discussions on r/Splatoon, and watch some high level Splatoon 1 gameplay video.

Also, if you wanna know the one thing that really changed how I play the game, greatly improving the way I use my favorite weapons - look up something the Japanese call "Raijin Step" or "cult of the bold marker".

Edit: oops, wrong quote

I think you meant to quote Mattenth :P

But I'm checking out this "Raijin Step" now...

Edit: Holy crap that technique would give me such a headache LOL

After around three days playing Splatoon 2 almost non-stop, here's my quick impression:

This ain't no kid game.

Lol sorry about the wrong quote, thanks for letting me know

Also, yeah - that Raijin Step stuff does seem pretty migraine-inducing, but it really does become second nature once you kind of get the hang of it. The key is pairing those techniques with A LOT of swim speed up and the right kinds of weapons, such as the Splooshes, Splattershot Jr. and N-Zap - basically anything with a crazy high rate of fire and short range.

Stacking swim speed up with these kinds of guns, learning how to use creating puddles at your feet to VERY rapidly move through enemy ink... you become a force very, very difficult to reckon with.

Edit: here's a quick example for anyone curious: https://streamable.com/8nx1

I'm getting that impression as well. Also, after starting to get into competitive mode, they need to do some serious balancing...especially in tower mode. The bucket & paint brush weapon is unstoppable, especially when they are defending the tower.

It's all cool, no biggie!

I'm actually going to be looking for players who do this now, if anything the info you shared is great for awareness for me lol

The bucket and brush weapons seem to be godlike when other people use them but when you try them out for yourself it's like

Not sure if it's just a small sample size, but AFK players have been much more prevalent in my first 12 levels then I ever remember them being in the original. Nothing more frustrating then losing by 40-50% and seeing that 1 or 2 people on your team didn't fire a single shot.

Paint Brush is my baby, got a 16 KDA (???) with it

But I don't feel like one weapon is super OP, even in ranked mode you can usually outsmart a "camping" team by flanking or throwing good grenades.

is there a way to change the sensitivity without quitting a mission? I'm stuck in this terrible level with the sniper rifle and I can't aim for shit with the stick.

I've been killing it, quite literally, the past hour and a half with tower control. Th bucket is ridiculous in that mode, I had completely forgotten about how good that weapon is!

Nope, just one of the stupid design decisions this game is plagued with.

What valid reason is there for not being able to adjust sensitivity etc in single player lol

The core gameplay is amazing but the game is full of little bullshit things that are nothing but annoying.

Out of curiosity is it the level with moving platforms in the second world? If it is I know the one you mean, that part at the end is designed to break controllers....

The .50 Gal seems crazy good and a good counter to the aerospray. Maybe I was just playing against people who weren't using them right, but I won pretty much every standoff against them this morning.

As someone who used a Gal weapon along with an Aerospray, an Aerospray has no chance against a Gel in a face-off. Either retreat or try to sneak. A Gal can kill a person in two hits and has very good range so even a badly damage Gal user to wipe an Aerospray.

So, I am correct in that the Switch app doesn't show when the next Salmon Run takes place? Scheduling that seems like one of the only legitimate uses of the app, and it actually doesn't support it?

On the plus side of Nintendo's baffling decisions, I have made a fairly active discord server already...

Is there a way to block the floating user comic posts people have in the tow ? Some of them have been nsfw, don't want my kids seeing them.

When giro controls begin to click, its so much fun. I wasn't sure on them before, but now I want lots of shooters on switch using the controls.

It was showing the current schedule all weekend, but I assume that since there is no current schedule (i.e. Salmon Run is closed), then it just doesn't show anything.

Which is dumb.

I want to say I saw an option to do this at the same red mailbox where you create them...

There's a setting in game to turn them off, in the X menu I think. If you don't want them to be able to be turned on, download the parental control app on your phone.

EDIT: I'm fairly certain you can block social interactions without blocking online gameplay with parental controls, but I haven't tested it.

Tentamissles seem to be the only special I like so Dualies are my weapon of choice for right now. I think I might try out the bucket for tower control.

One more thing in regards to somewhat more advanced technique - this video has a few good pieces of advice, plus it clearly shows off exactly how viable the short range/high firing rate weapons truly are:

I have definitely noticed so far in Splatoon 2 the fact that (seemingly) new players are really not being very cautious or strategic with when/where they choose to super-jump. Often they land riiiiight on top of my splat bomb just as it's going off :P

Gonna try out the Heavy Spatling tonight. Seems to put out a lot of ink without needing to reload much, and it's got great range to boot. Was also really impressed when I tested it out at Sheldon's and saw that you could get a kill with something like 1/3 of a ring charged.

Any tips for general use? I figure just going whole hog and always doing the full charge is going to get you killed fast, so I was planning on keeping the charges minimal, maybe 1/2 a ring or so.

Five minutes and some change (Overtime) Tower Control. Partner on Blaster. On Tower Control. They got three kills.

I just... How?

Has anyone been able to access the "more details" page of league battle results? Every time I've tried it just says the page cannot be displayed. Tried a few times with different results and always the same error

how do you even play this game with motion controls

seems like the best option but i just cant wrap my head around it

What's giving you trouble?

You use the right stick as normal for large movements and turns, and you tilt the controller to make small adjustments to get better aim.

1. Don't use motion only.
2. Don't swing the controller around in the air.
3. Do change the sensitivity so you don't have to tilt too much.

I think it's force of habit looking up/down and not being able to then loosing time/doing nothing because I remember I have to tilt. I'll try changing sensitivity but I think it's because I'm mostly playing in handheld mode when I can play from TV

I was asking myself the same question. I bumped my sensitivity up nearly all the way and I thought I was getting the hang of it but I still sucked...

Now I have bumped motion sensitivity to 0 and right stick sensitivity down half way between -1 and 0 (-0.5?). I place the controller down on a flat surface and press Y to calibrate the camera. From that position it seems easier to aim with a steering motion.

Now I'm getting 2000 points in a game instead of 300 to 600... and I'm getting way more kills...

I never thought I'd say it, But I vastly prefer it to sticks.
