Been playing Splatoon 2 for a couple of days. Absolutely loved the first game and was a huge advocate for it the moment it was revealed at E3. It drove me not only to buy a Wii U, but a TV to go with it.
As far as Nintendo sequels go, this is definitely the same-iest sequel I've played. Of course, the mechanics are as good as ever, so there's no real need to change what isn't broken. But I was hoping for a lot more new weapon types, some different stage hazards and new ranked modes. I just can't get as jazzed up about Splatoon 2 as I did the first game, especially since I feel like I'm just buying the same weapons and clothes all over again.
With that said, it's still fun as hell and I'm probably going to put a lot of time into it. Single-player campaign has some cool new tricks, and Salmon Run is an absolutely fantastic addition to the game. I'm enjoying the new special weapons, and I've transitioned to the Switch controls pretty well from the first game. Hoping for some meaty updates!
Also, Pearl is waaaay better (although, I'm Team Ketchup)
