Splatoon is probably the only multiplayer game that makes it advantageous to outnumber the other team. So for the disconnects, I don't blame the game, but the hardware. The Switch's Wifi is AWFUL, and has been since Day 1. Anyone who tells you otherwise is not paying attention.

Fucking finally

Thank you tri-slosher cheese and thank you dudes on the other team who kept walking into my paint bucket.

So, for someone like me that never had a problem, I'm not 'paying attention'.

Maybe it's just you and a few others having problems instead of it being a wide problem like you keep pushing.

No, the Switch's Wifi is objectively awful. Go check out ifixit's teardown and marvel at the mostly unbroken sheet of metal covering all of the components inside the Switch, including the wifi antenna.

Again, I used the Switch's Wifi all the time and I never had a problem on top of me only hearing a few people here griped about disconnects.

Is it in a place where you could cut a hole in the metal cover?

Yup. It fucking boggles the mind how the thing ever made it out of the R&D lab as far as it's wifi goes. I have to manually reconnect every time i turn on the damn thing... and that only works 1/4 of the time. The other 3/4 of the time i have to remove it from the doc to connect as the dock blocks the signal. Worst Wifi experience i've ever had with a device.

And yet I'm having to play docked to my phone because my broadband is down, I don't even get a 3g data signal in my house, and I have almost no problems.

Any tips on using the dynamo roller in turf war? I probably go to ranked with it until I'm reasonably good with it on turf war. Videos welcome, too. =p

wow you can't really be proud of beating a team 4vs3 :D

Today was a bad day, had tons of 2vs4 and 3vs4 (discos on my team obviously) and many losses in a row. It's infuriating.

In Splatoon 1 I recall people were down on Rollers. I'm still only like level 5, but I feel I can help most with them. Are they a viable tool?

When I first started it was like I was first or second place with the starting gun and always winning. Now it seems my team loses a fair bit and my score isn't so hot.

...If your phone is right next to the Switch you're not gonna have any problems. Also fyi the connection will be stronger if you point the screen toward it.

Nah, that dude didn't disconnect until the very end. Probably because I splatted him half a dozen times.

That's good at least.

If you're putting ink on the ground with them, yes. They aren't great at battle but they are great at covering big areas quickly.

Hit the screenshot limit on my system, so I had to delete a few pics.

I don't have a Micro SD card for it yet, though, so...a sale would be nice on some 64gb cards

I'm not sure how Difficulty on Salmon Run works, tbh. Nor am I sure about how scoring works. It's gotten AWFULLY tough at Go-Getter, though.

I managed to fix my chronic disconnect problems by setting my router QoS to prioritize the switch and tweaking a few other settings. I haven't disconnected since but at default settings I was disconnecting every 3 matches.

I had a run up until Overachiever (comes after Go-Getter I think) - then shortly before I made it to the next level I wiped a ton of times in a row and was thrown back 2 ranks to part-timer :(
Overachiever is no joke... so is Go -Getter with a bad team. The Matchmaking is great though, you can team up with friends and fill the other spots with random people.

Problem is, you won't level up if anyone on your team is a lower rank then you, but you will ranked down if you wipe. It's kind of unfair.

I didn't rank down when I wiped with my friends who were two ranks lower than I though... And we wiped a ton when they started out.
It was actually funny because I got paid 160% even though we wiped all the time

it's awful. i wouldn't mind half points or something but not being able to get anything for doing well and still getting punished for getting rekt sucks

Did it actually level down for any of you when that was the case, or do you assume that... as I said - never happened to me.

I ranked down by two level playing in the Gaf room and when I finally won, I got no points since someone was under-leveled. I was pissed.

How do you change the router QoS?

On my router (netgear) it was in the advanced LAN section but I'm sure each type is different.

The full steps of what I did are:

1. Set MTU to 1500
2. Set 5 GHz to highest channel
3. Set QoS with > 1 MB/s rate and the switch prioritized
4. Set DNS to google DNS (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4)

I'm pretty sure it was the QoS which solved the issue.

But when my broadband is working I can play handheld on the wifi upstairs with the router downstairs without problems too. Are people only having problems with wifi while docked? I have my dock on a wired connection.

It depends on a number of issues.

I just took the easy way and installed a PowerPoint adapter into the bedroom. Good Wifi signal and Ethernet connection if I play on the dock.

yeah dude i was salmon running with a friend and ranked down when we got wiped

I ranked down by two level playing in the Gaf room and when I finally won, I got no points since someone was under-leveled. I was pissed.

Sure it was the same people you wiped with? Odd that it doesn't seem to happen to me. Maybe I glitched out of ranking down
many many times

Could be because my friends were the lowest rank, and then it won't rank you down if you wipe with them... or more than two ranks under your rank or something like that.

So...I find it odd how I rarely play with Japanese players online in this iteration. I've only seen maybe 10 Japanese players in total over 20-50 hours of online play, which is a stark contrast to my experience from the original Splatoon. Anybody have a similar experience?

Same here. I never see Japanese players in Splatoon 2.

it seems to be doing some kind of ping based matchmaking and stretching your last 50 wins/losses really far in either direction to make lobbies now
instead of just assuming everyone has a bad connection and matching you based on your weekly formula of winrate * 10 * matches since sunday

which would completely save you from having to play with disconnectors or bad players and get you good matches against and with competent players after like monday for the whole week

really miss the old system, im just bobbing back and forth on 66+ % winrate, lose like 5 in a row because it gives me 3 braindead people against 4 players of average to low skill and then when i lose enough it puts me in middling lobbies until i win a bunch again.

Thought Japan copy was region locked so that they play on separate servers. So unless they have a copy of the game from another region that's likely why we're seeing so few.

Just spent my lunch hour in Salmon Run and made only 8000 coins...

I don't say this often, because I am a distinctly average Splatoon player, but I was carrying those teams.

Everything fell apart when I get the Charger and all three of these geniuses decide to run off after a single sniper boss whilst I deal with the three other bosses swarming the basket.

Top form, guys.

Same here. I never see Japanese players in Splatoon 2.

It prefers local people to international people because it's peer 2 peer (no dedicated servers) - so if you get matched with japanese people, the chance of sability problems is higher.
A lot of people complained about connectivity problems in splatoon 1 so I guess it was easier to go (mainly) local. Which is good (at least it's good that the game supports peer 2 peer). They can still get dedicated servers up and running - but in a few years these could be shut down (because they cost money and stuff), and then you can't play anymore at all I guess?
But yeah would be nice if we got dedicated servers. (once we start paying [a little] for online...)
