Splatoon 2 |OT| Fresh Squids 2 Go

Just spent my lunch hour in Salmon Run and made only 8000 coins...

I don't say this often, because I am a distinctly average Splatoon player, but I was carrying those teams.

Everything fell apart when I get the Charger and all three of these geniuses decide to run off after a single sniper boss whilst I deal with the three other bosses swarming the basket.

Top form, guys.

Thought Japan copy was region locked so that they play on separate servers. So unless they have a copy of the game from another region that's likely why we're seeing so few.

It's not just like Splatoon 1 i see Japanese players at night here in EU. The match making probably just takes your region into consideration first.

Splatfests are pure region based tho.

the sheer amount of fucking time i wait to get a ranked match or turf war at this exact time a day when i used to have 10s matchmaking in splatoon 1 with japanese players is making me >SERIOUSLY< consider a japanese digital copy just so i can play without waiting around for half of my play time

seriously angry about missing out on all the good japanese artists too, so many dumb forced memes and in this version you STILL can't draw a post and have it stay above your head for more then like 10 minutes for your friends to see after you've played with them

I agree they need to do something with the tri-slosher, it's really powerful.

I also agree with the lobby match-making system, I lose a lot and then finally get a team that I can win with. Maybe I'm the problem :)

Seems the game decided not to let me win at the Reef. I don't just lose there, I get stomped.

yesterday was the first day i got to play on the reef since literally the global test fire two months ago, with the maps rotating every 2h and only 8 maps in the game and my playing at all kinds of hours of the afternoon evening night and morning its been pissing me off how often i keep getting the same maps

hoping the splatfest rearranging map provides some much needed variety and without looking at it im seriously hoping the reef is one of the splatfest maps
i really like that map compared to some of the others

Splatnet says I've had 0 disconnects in the last 50 matches and I rarely get connection problems. Same experience with MK8 and ARMS. There must be something wrong in the Switch or setup for those of you who say wifi is horrible.

Any tips on using the dynamo roller in turf war? I probably go to ranked with it until I'm reasonably good with it on turf war. Videos welcome, too. =p
NEVER roll. Just tap shoot, wait a bit for the animation then jump when the ink's about to come out, this way you get an extended range. The vertical flick (jump, then shoot) can be used to quickly paint corridors like those in Port Mackerel or the ramps in Moray Tower. You usually want to be in a high place and make ink rain with the horizontal jumping flick to maximize coverage. So:
*Open spaces->Shoot, then jump
*Corridors->Jump, then shoot
*When to roll->NEVER

Mind your range when facing enemies and always look for elevated spots. Haven't tried it yet in S2, but this was a beast in S1 Turf War.

Try playing at night (you get teamed up with local people mostly). A lot less kids are online from 10PM onwards! It's night and day. pun intended.

the dynamo roller was only ever good if you had a bad connection ( to ease things a bit on this sentence, i'll add, "to the people you were playing with" )

its apparently even slower in s2, i wouldn't waste my squidcash buying it, the regular ass roller is already being summarily murdered in all the lobbies i play in just during the extended / slowed animation of the vertical flick

Nah I disagree. With the springler and echolocator you could paint half the map on your own, then look for a high place and dominate from there for the rest of the match. Only good chargers were a real threat.

No, we play on same servers. I can easily drop in for few rounds with my Japanese friends and I have EU copy of the game.
There's just more players worldwide the matchmaking doesn't have to search for players in Japan now. In friends list it does say "スプラトゥーン2" instead of "Splatoon 2" when they're playing the game, but in-game you can join their games just fine.

I have noticed this. I did manage to badass a match today: turned away from a Steelhead and saw 3 liferings bobbing down the ramp behind me amid a couple bosses.
Swam up the wall behind me (I like when I see teammates inking walls too) leapt from the grate above and splashed down to save everyone and kill a nearby Scrapper.

For just one second I was a God to them.

it seems to be doing some kind of ping based matchmaking and stretching your last 50 wins/losses really far in either direction to make lobbies now
instead of just assuming everyone has a bad connection and matching you based on your weekly formula of winrate * 10 * matches since sunday

which would completely save you from having to play with disconnectors or bad players and get you good matches against and with competent players after like monday for the whole week

really miss the old system, im just bobbing back and forth on 66+ % winrate, lose like 5 in a row because it gives me 3 braindead people against 4 players of average to low skill and then when i lose enough it puts me in middling lobbies until i win a bunch again.

Tell me about it. I be doing good, then I just hit these four to six losing streaks. Changing lobbies does nothing.

Hey guys, is this worth getting if I'm mostly going to play in portable mode in bed? Do you still see enough stuff on screen to keep up?

Anyone else feeling the full force of the current bucket-brush-dualies meta and kind of disgusted at how their specials and bombs nullify their weaknesses and steamroll your team every time?

I hit A- recently and every team up here either has 2 buckets, two brushes or one of each. With the remainder being filled out by 2 dualies or a dualies and a splatterscope. But the competitive population is leaning extremely heavy on buckets and brushes and its kind of impossible to play against.

My gf and I play a fair share in handheld mode and I'm at rank 29 and A- across the board in ranked. It's totally fine.

I play in bed a lot too and it's great, but just gotta warn you beforehand if you lay on your back the motion controls won't work, so prepare to play without them.
The game is easily best played with them, but sometimes the warmth and comfort of bed triumphs and it works great without them too.

FINALLY! Won a game after going on a six game losing streak. To make it worse it was always on the Reef and my team always lose in the last minute after controlling the map for most of the game. I have no clue what happened since going by points, the teams are even, but my team always gets stomped in the the last minute.

And, to prove this game has a sensed a humor, lost in stomp, despite the other team having only three players at the beginning because our Rollers were morons.

It's worth noting that the horizontal flick was nerfed a lot from what it was in Splatoon 1. It covers a lot less turf now and has a higher damage drop off. If you're standing on higher ground than your enemy you probably won't kill them in one hit anymore unless they are right below you. The vertical flick actually covers more turf than the horizontal flick but it is slower and you can't recover ink as fast after doing it.

Of course, I'm not some late-adopting savage ;)

Lol just checking... mine too. Weird... everyone i know with a Switch has had and is still having issues with their wifi. It's a bummer. It really is otherwise super close to the perfect device. (needs built in Bluetooth headset and chat support though lol)

Damn, a high-tide 1st round, followed by a foggy night round, followed by a mothership round. I don't know how we managed to win that. We had 3 down at least once in each of the first rounds, and we only just managed to get enough eggs in the final round at the last second after I Sting Ray'd the mothership.

Splashdown revives areeee fucking awesomeeee - I also love grenade revives when you can't see your downed teammates because there's so many enemies. they can just go to the grenade themselfes if they're close enough :)

What's the over/under on Thermal Ink as an ability? There's a 3* jacket on SplatNet with it and I kind of want to try it out, but I'm wondering how useful it really is. Usually when you hit someone, it feels like you splat them pretty soon after that first hit. Not many people survive that initial encounter, and if they do, they aren't hard to spot afterwards unless they have Ninja Squid.

It's not a cheap jacket either, so if Thermal Ink is a total scam I'll save my coins for something better, but I'd like some extra opinions.

use walls a lot. they will walk around the whole thing every time you jump down and climb back up.
they're basically the same boss as a steel eel (just stronger)

This is sound advice for Spawning Grounds in general. If it's not high tide, use the walls as much as you can. See too many people getting picked off trying to run across the grates

Yeah! There's 2 walls and one little edge (I kept dying at that edge a lot so now it's an escape route for me) I always splat immediately before the start of the first round. It's soooooo useful!

Second day I only had a few minutes before work and I got lost in the menu/hub 😂.

Can someone point out where the SP mode is?

Also what's the preferred control method? Holding the joy cons in each hand is cool but camera is wild most of the time. Is it just a press Y constantly thing? I also can't get comfortable because if I lay back left Joy con goes nuts.

If you're in inkopolis square press X then choose (I think it's called) Octo canyon (or something)
I play in Handheldmode mostly - and with Pro Controller in TV Mode.

Gyro takes some getting used to, but it's worth it in the long run. I recommend turning the gyro and stick sensitivities to at least +1.

There's a white haired squid in Japanese clothes with an umbrella. When you get close to her, she disappears into a grate in the ground. Press ZL over that grate to get to the single player.

Co-sign. Is this ability worth it?

#1 rule: get used to Y button camera resets (hold your joycon in a neutral comfy bearing and reset the reticle to the center after some platting during downtime)
#2. Get used to swinging the camera around with the stick or you'll CONSTANTLY be resetting your pointer
#3. keep at it for a few days, start low sensitivity and work your way higher once you have a handle on it

it really is a huge difference, being able to easily track some dualie rolling around vs the imprecise stick

You'll be unconsciously resetting every couple of splats/ dozen seconds of inking and on spawn every single time soon enough. It's similar to getting used to moving a mouse to the edge, flicking the cursor towards the center and lifting and putting your mouse down back at the center.

Thermal ink is ONLY for the user
if you want teamwide you need the motion sensor sub weapon
What I'm not sure on is if you can nullify the motion sensor you see incoming by remaining perfectly still until it stops scanning

Ninja squid will only become more and more popular once people unlock the ability chunks they want and can stop grinding out suboptimal clothes for them and wear what they actually want
I've got a ninja squid shirt and it's awesome and I never use it because I'm grinding out the splatfest tees (2k scrub vs 20k scrub for everything else)

It's weird they dont even tell you this hugely important info, thank goodness I read it from someone else
