Splatoon |OT| Squidstyler

So I've got two things to say.

1. Arowana Mall is not fun due to its narrowness and over reliance on the main choke point.

2. The Sprinkler is stupidly good. It lasts forever as long as someone from the enemy team doesn't destroy it. It's the only sub that lasts forever and uses up as much ink as a splat bomb I think. I don't think it should last forever.

I hope they unlock ranked battles on Sunday.

It says it in the tutorial.

I missed this part, weirdly enough i haven't been painting walls unless i plan to climb on top of a structure, maybe it's just me, but somehow it feels counter intuitive to paint walls in the game.

That said, i have been wating my time painting the tree near the spawn point in one of the maps D:

It just brought me a little joy to do so.

So I noticed that you can push the NPCs around in the hub world and so I was trying to push all of them into a giant crowd, but they started slowly walking back to their original spots so I couldn't do it. Max I could get was 4 together.Curse you Nintendo...

I'm loving the game so far, but I've only been able to finish 4 matches as I keep getting communication errors. I can play any other online game fine :(

Still finished the single player and the squid Amiibo challenges for that sweet sweet power armour!

Krak-On Roller is legit babby mode

Put some special-boosting gear on, press R3 then just hold the left stick and jump around the room tbh

This is the truth. I've been hanging it on ceilings or billboards that are hard to reach and get a steady increase in score. I've even had random kills from people that ran under it :p. It's great.

One more hour I believe.
Speaking of rotations...

This morning I was able to squeeze in a few games before leaving for the hotel I was at now. You know what maps they had? The motherfucking Testfire maps. Fucking fuckers. At least I got in a single game last night that was on that mall but christ, when i don't have much time to play in a day and haven't really played the game yet i don't want to be stuck on the maps i am already pretty familiar with!

Recon perk is surprisingly useful. It shows where enemies are when you're on the start pad, so every time you die you can be sure whether it's safe to jump to a teammate or not.

The single player missions are really cool. I wish there would be a multiplayer mode that makes use of these platforming elements like the ink lines or the sponge blocks.
Even just a basic time trial mode for the missions would suite good.

That's really disappointing. I'm sure I'll have fun with the game and am excited to play today, but I thought 4 player local multiplayer was obvious since the reveal.

Agreed, would have been great. Though 30 fps would have been horrible.

Wish there was 2 player online coop at least.

A racing mode with randomly generated obstacles/enemies could be cool.

I don't know how I feel about most of these weapons being as terrible as they are.

Which ones do you mean? I've tried many loadouts so far and most off them seem pretty viable. The only one that's worthless is splattershot with the balloons as special and sub weapon.

The 1vs1 pop the balloons local mode runs at 30fps as well so 2 player online would probably run 30 fps too. I wish they optimized the game better so split screen could run at 60fps. I feel like not having split screen online is a huge oversight, expecially since the only game mode that supports local multiplayer is not very fun.

Maybe this is a question for a different thread all together but I'm not seeing anything in Splatoon that is anymore repetitive than other shooting games? I played maybe 6-7hrs yesterday total level up to 9 and played some single player and amiibo challenge games. Doesn't seem repetitive at all, I mean yes you run around and shoot ink but you could boil down any game to run around and do X etc. I'm loving it so far and wanting to get back in to play this more than Witcher. There is plenty of content now everything coming is bonus imo anyway. I'd jump in if your on the fence.

I mean one its not really, and two why bother doing anything in that case? The guys just having fun haha

Looks really good too!
Said the guy who thinks Splatoon is gonna bomb.

Anyway, it's a new IP from Nintendo EAD. The last time we got one of those was with Pikmin, & obviously we got Olimar in Brawl. He probably would have been in Melee if DLC was a thing back then. We're gonna get playable Inklings, either by Sakurai's own decree, the ballot, or a Nintendo mandate.

All of the .gals seem awful.

The Inkzooka seems mostly useless

The Inkmine is interesting, but not that useful

That shotgun burst weapon doesn't have a whole lot of strategic use outside of killing people, which is usually what makes you lose

A lot of the weapons seem like they have a purpose that has nothing to do with Turf War, which is making the initial lack of content feel real apparent.

I hated the mall at first, but now it's my favourite map. In the last few games I realised how important those narrow side-paths were, since you can easily sneak behind your enemies and either take them out from behind, or start taking over their territory. I've won most of recent games in the Mall doing that

I'm so curious how they would handle the ink mechanic in smash. It would suck if ink were just projectiles that directly disappear.
I could see the Inklings having projectiles as their A moves like Mega Man (Splattershot Jr. jabs, Splattershot tilts, Splat Charger Side Smash, Ink Roller Down Smash, etc.). From there you can use the Squid as a Side B to swim through the ink (you'd use the Squid as an Up B for the Super Jump, but that's work no matter what). Normal B throws an Ink Bomb, & Down B would either leave a mine or send a tracer bomb.

Though there is the question of if the 3DS can handle this.
