Splatoon |OT2| Prepare to Dye

I need to get my head around how this works as this what I am thinking so far.

There are 13 abilities possible abilities to roll. Most brands one has a 5x chance the other a 0.5x chance so think of it as 26 balls in a bag, two for each ability (13 different colours...ugh). We take away one to represent the 0.5x chance. There are 25 balls in the bag now. Now we add another 8 to represent the 5x chance. So the bag now has 33 balls 10 of which are one colour so the so those three abilities the same you sometimes see are a (assuming they are the increased chance) 2.7% chance? ( [10/33]^3)

It sounds kind of right but maybe I've misinterpreted something or the game handles the numbers oddly.

win, lose, win, lose, win, lose
mall and skatepark.. we so need new maps for ranked

plus hope they fix the hit boxes with jumping, half the hits don't register against those jumping idiots with rollers

because splatter fire arcs, so they're literally jumping over your paint...

The Kraken Roller is crazy good, but I'm not really feeling it

It sort of feel like I'm choring around, doing all the hard paint job, while crazy gunners is getting all the splatting done, even though I usually get higher kill ratings with it. Rolling over people doesn't feel as good as a legit SPLAT from a gun for some strange reason.

weird

Splattershot Jr. is still my fave, even though I liked the Nzapper too. The Nzap runs out of ink crazy quick though

Going to test Aerospray next

So I tried a Ranked Battle for the first time yesterday. I've been reading through this thread since Splatoon came out and I know you've all been discussing tips frequently, but I'd just like to know the mindset you all have while going into these battles.

From what I understand you have to control particular zones within the battlefield. How do you this however when there seems to be two zones and you have teammates who aren't aggressive enough?

Is it best to find a hidden or higher up area to just stay there shooting to hold ground?

I spent more time warping back to the zones than actually covering territory because my teammates were inking the entire map instead of securing the zones, therefore leaving me alone to get my ass kicked. Is inking anywhere besides the zone important?

Sigh.

I'm officially done with Ranked Battle, I just realized the mode is everything I didn't buy Splatoon for, casual-laid-back-and-cover-everything-with-ink shooter.

I like ranked battles quite a bit but have to do them in spurts. They are so intense I feel myself getting stressed and that's just not fresh.

Sorry that you have shit teammates.

Inking areas outside the zone is situationally important -- map control is still useful in ranked, and inking around the map gains you meter. Your objective is to take control of the zones though, yeah.

Tbh you have to be aggressive and carry your team at low ranks. If there are two zones and you have to lead the charge for the other zone, then there you go.

I pretty much always play defensively, but it works out for me since I use the charger. I play like that in every game I play anyway.

Yeah, but the stress is addictive aswell because you are like "Next time i'll do better!"

On that note, it's time for my first Splatoon of the day!

Thanks for the advice!! :)

Have any of you guys captured any video of a really well-played Ranked Battle or know of any videos online that showcase this? Curious to see how it looks when it's done right.

Yeah so far I haven't done more than 4 ranked matches in a single play session.

Man, had the worst time yesterday. People dropping like flies. One match was 4 v 1. Awful.
I had a 2 v 4 match yesterday and just said fuck it and started flopping around as a squid in enemy territory and jumping off Saltspray Rig repeatedly

I might sport the Splattershot guns. My success with the .52 is dwindling.

Also, are we really supposed to be getting a map every two weeks?

They do. It's a useful reference, but not 100% accurate afaik, like most studies done by the community.

Also, I would be surprised to learn that kraken is the only special that takes more ink to charge up than the others, which are all the same?! I thought echolocator was the fastest to charge up.

What is your rank?

Inking around the the zone allows for flanking. Maybe you are confusing what they are doing but it depends on what rank you are. If you are C or C- then ye your team mates have no clue but B- and up they are probably allowing more room to swim to flank.

Wowy, found this on the squidboards. Some people are really lucky (or rich):

People were flanking like that in my C-/C matches yesterday, I think people are catching on really quickly

I'm just a C and everyone else was that or C-. Good tips on the flanking though. That makes sense. From what I experienced they were inking and not really coming back to the zone to recover it and I was wondering why. Definitely a learning curve here but that's good. With your guys' advice I'll try again today and hopefully do better and hopefully with a more cooperative team!

Gah! If Splatoon were fee-to-pay, people would be buying so many coins with actual cash to try and get that. That's basically the ideal setup, imho.

Do 3x Swim Movements make up for the Ninja Squid swim nerf? Probably. Man, what a great setup.

Made it to A- rank O_0

If my first 3 battles at A- rank are an indication (1-2), I am going to be here awhile. My biggest problems now are the roller splat spamming. No clue how to deal with it on some of these maps.

This was the glitch that got fixed, you could re-roll for free iirc

Nah, I used the glitch myself. It was only available for a short time, couple days at most, and you could only reroll every time Judd owed you money. So you could do it 3 times every 4 hours, max.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is legit. Plus you can order that gear in that exact config from Spyke, if you meet a person wearing any of those clothes.

What this shows me is that the N-Zapper ain't the best weapon...

But...

am-i-out-of-touch-no-its-the-children-who-are-wrong.jpg

Bah, the game's not about killing, it's about spreading ink!

Plus it might even be the BEST weapon for killing, since it has echolocator. Not only does it increase your killing power, it also increases your friends' killing power!

Man, I'm being spanked in ranked. I got kicked back to B+ really hard

Ranked is hard, because you cannot carry your team - the amount of times my team mates are double negative kill/death ratio is unbelievable. I'm not talking about someone having 1/2 or 2/5, I keep getting paired with people that die like 5-11 times in match in B+/A- ranking. As much as I try to carry them to a win it's impossibru

Wat, Echolocator gives the perk to your entire team?

N-Zapper 4 Lyfe. Killing might not get me the most points but an enemy killed is an enemy that's not inking.
