Splatoon |OT2| Prepare to Dye

So guys how can I join SplatoonGAF? Can you create custom lobbies/rooms like in MK8 or do you have to join friends who are already playing?

check post #6 for the spreadsheet and mention that you're from Gaf when you send out invites. Lobbies come with the August update

playing against Red with a charger is like sitting on a tiny piece of driftwood in an ocean of enemy ink with a harpoon, waiting for the great white shark to appear

Had the stupidest idea for a #TeamCat art earlier after looking at the Zone of The Enders box art for a bit. Figured I'd pitch the idea to SplatGAF looking for some suggestions. The basic idea is simple:

d3s2Xth.jpg

- "Zone of the Enders" gets replaced with "Capture All Turf"
- "Z.O.E" gets changed to "C.A.T"
- The triangular icon showing the map of the solar system there is changed to either a graphic depicting a cat's face or a cat's eye. I might even keep the planetary orbits as a touch using paw prints instead
- (Hard/Try Hard Mode) doodle out the silhouette of a cat behind the logo

Any thoughts?

They should do a prestige mode for levelling, so at 20 you can reset (but keep your unlocks) and as a reward you get some shells or something else. It does feel a bit bad getting all this XP but it not doing anything, which is why even cosmetic rewards would be good.

I don't really care about all that xp being wasted, but I would be down to reset my levels for a sea snail.

I kinda wonder if the gyro controls is easier to grasp if you're a beginner to video games because they don't have their own expectations of how a shooter should control. It's kinda like how some people say it's harder to train someone to squat properly when they have to unlearn the way they originally squatted.
I agree with this. I can't for the life of God play with the gyro controls. I've simply played too many dual-stick shooters for that. Unlearning is way harder than learning. (No problem, though, since I play quite well with the dual sticks and is often in top 3 in Splatoon)

Something struck me the other day: I had a ranked game on Blackbelly where we were dominant, to the extent that the final map basically had one channel from our spawn to the middle that was all we needed, whereas the opposition had taken lots of different routes into the middle to try to flank us, so the ink around *their* spawn was full of lots of different paths.

That continued into thoughts about how Splat Zones might be more interesting if those channels could be disrupted over time by the opposition - but there's little incentive to actually do that in real play; you defend the Zones because that's the goal.

So eventually I concluded: would it work if we had a hybrid? If a game was set up where two members of each team were playing to Splat Zone rules, while the other two were playing Turf War rules. Turf War players are going to *want* to influence the routes into the middle for their own goals, which gives Splat Zone players an extra factor to take into account.

I think there's potential here, but it's an odd form of asymmetric gameplay to think about.

Teleporting paint brush... so scary.

Rushing to the middle doesn't work when everyone is painting our base. Especially the sniper...

I really don't get why not more people start by rushing to middle. You can always paint your base later on, but in the beginning it is important to claim as much of the center as possible.

It's probably because they're new to the game and don't know that the best strategy is map control. Also could be that they're scared of dying.

That juke violet! Would have been better if I got away lol.

GG doc and violet, it was fun. The .96 is a bit too strong imo. After playing with it for 2 days, the only weapons I had trouble with were the squelcher type weapons and chargers. Maybe fast shooting guns, but their range is too short to reach the .96 gal.

No, I usually play against level 15-20'ers. And I am almost always the first (and the only) one to reach the center of the map. Yeah, I play quite aggressively with my Splattershot Jr., but still, my team should at least move forward and not concentrate too much of the start base.

Hi everyone, I'm quite into Splatoon at this point (been a lvl 20 for a while, although I never went above B+) but would like to play with the most active members here.. Who should I add? I added a few people from the spreadsheet but it's rather hit and miss (nothing wrong with that but I'm a bit jealous of you all playing and chatting here).

To ensure everyone can find a match.

You can ask people here. When Japan started Splatfest, there were times when it was very difficult for non-Japanese to find a match. Sure, we were playing late US time but still.

I know this, I still wish it was an option at some point.

Maybe it's just a Turf War thing.

Revelation only applies to Random Turf War :o

I pretty much only play turf war tho

Had a quick go with the new hose weapon before the Treehouse started last night. Don't really get it. An item in a game where you want to cover turf that can't be continuously fired. Guess it's more useless in ranked.

Really good dynamo roller players seem almost invincible. One guy I played against last week was able to counter everything I tried on him

It's actually only really useful in ranked lol. Good power, even better with attack buffs

When I'm sharp, custom blaster is my best weapon. But when I'm not, the losing streaks are vicious.

I'm torn between two setups: a damage up-stacking set that increases my burst OHKO range or my speed ninja squid set. I feel the former has the higher skill ceiling but the latter should help me die less.

People here told me to just "go below them, cuz they can't hit you there". Suuuure, easier said than done. :lol

I was really counting on some Splatoon update being announced at E3 (beyond just a couple of mediocre weapon additions). I want a new ranked mode and a new map and a level cap increase!

Maybe next week. Splatfest at least looks awesome.

Yeah I was thinking maybe they would do a little segment on how happy/surprised they were with the success and feature lots of the artwork people have done and then end with a teaser with what's to come. Nothing major just a little 30s-60s segment

Just uploaded the last match we had with Heng and Violet - it's arrowana mall -, I noticed that the shadows are visible before the actual models, I'll try to remember that for the future laggy matches :p.

poor Andre, still using the Aerospray - he needs to get with the meta
You just need to blindside them. Blind spot warefare is a crucial tactic for charger v charger warefare. If you get up close, they either have to disengage or face you in a shootout, which (if you're skillfull enough) will always win as your charge is considerably faster. You need to be careful of partial charge OHKOs via attack ups, so defense ups are useful for squiffers.

see, after doing some testing I'm not convinced the Squiffer charges a 100+ damage shot faster than the standard charger. With the Squiffer you always need to fully charge to one-shot someone (doesn't matter how much Damage Up you stack), with the charger it's 2/3 and with the E-liter 1/2 (with Damage Up). The E-liter might be a bit slower perhaps but the charger is about as fast as the Squiffer

A wall to block other chargers from splatting you because your range sucks for a charger? Sounds good.

Hope a squiffer is released with a wall, would play the fuck out of that
I just pretend that the Squiffers do not exist. They are weaker and slower than regular guns, and have less range than chargers. You can just use a charger with some damage up and one shot people at the same rate.

Holy shit. Last night, I had a ranked match on Saltspray Rig. My team jelled pretty well, and we got to where we only had 1 second left on our clock pretty quickly. At this point, the opposing team had about 80 seconds on theirs. And I'll be damned if those guys didn't wake up and hold us off for the rest of the match until they got a knockout -- we couldn't get that 1 second of control in to save our lives.

I love this game.
