Splatoon |OT4| You're a detriment to your squad

You can't get paired against squads if you're playing solo

Okay, good to have that confirmed. I wasn't really sure (IE: if say only two people were in a squad, and the other spots needed to fill. I've never played squads so didn't know)

Which makes that matching even more ridiculous then.

It's probably because you're getting close to A

But I've been A rank (I just ranked down), and even got to A86 the other day, but I've never had ridiculous match-ups like that. Maybe 1-3 S/+ ranks in a match, but never every single other player.
I mean technically for me it was better this way (being matched with/against S ranks), because for the most part these are players that actually do understand the mechanics of the game, unlike, well a lot of the teams I played with ultimately leading to my demotion. It just seemed odd to me.

It's a shame the matchmaking is so inconsistent, I agree.

Speaking of matchups, when playing 2 squid squad ranked with my girlfriend lately, we've been getting ridiculously terrible matchups. I'm B+ and she's B-, and about 80% of the time we get matches with 2-3 people anywhere from A to S. And, we've been getting terribly unlucky, because only one out of like twenty matches like that did we get the upper hand in terms of team member ranks. Otherwise, we kept getting matchups like B+ B- B B vs B S A C+. I'm grateful that I only lose 4 points or so to those matchups, but I'd honestly rather play fair fights and have an actual chance of winning.

Sorry, I had to complain somewhere; this pissed me off tonight big time.

Don't know what the devs can do about it, though, considering the nature of 2 squid squads.

I'm sick and tired of getting mixed up against teams with Dynamo Rollers and snipers when all we have are short range weapons.

This is a big problem with matchmaking, but like you said, I'm not sure where the devs could even begin.

I play with some of my friends (B- to B+ rank) every so often, so I'm actually sort of in the middle of the two sides here. I'm the annoying guy for the enemies, while also being the one on our team who swayed the data and threw off any balance.

Makes you feel really bad when you lose, because you know your teammates lose a lot more ranking due to your presence. :(

Yep. I wonder why isn't the loss individual: you lose against team of S'. The players in the losing team loses according to their level: A+ -8, A -6, B -3, C -1 or something like that.

That's how I felt playing this morning. And then when I tried long range weapons they couldn't ink the zone fast enough and the enemy team used cover effectively. I never had the right loadout and went from S45 to 20.

I had wins but the losses weighed more. The wins were only small gains (including a whopping +2) and the losses included a -9 from my S/S+ team losing to A+s. That stung! I think though that I'm just regressing to my "true" A+ ranking. I've never deranked from A+ but can't hold S.

Yeah, this morning was bad. Splat Zones was nothing but Dynamo Rollers. And with a bit luck I had maybe one on my team. I was rocking the .52 but you can't do much when you get ambushed by 2 rollers and a sniper. Worst thing is when they kill everyone in your team and paint the entire map in a few seconds until you respawn. You have no chance of coming back.

2 days ago I managed to get my squid butt to S50. Splatoon probably thought: Enough is enough. I lost over 100 points and went down to A46. Managed to get back to S30 though. Now I'm close to loosing S rank again. Can't seem to get up. At this point I don't even care anymore. I just want to level up to 50.

The 52 is helpless against Dynamos and has very tough time with rollers.

The dual squelcher is a roller killer. It has the ability to spread enough ink for mobility, range to splat rollers safely, and nimble enough to take out snipers.

I find the biggest problem in ranked is not enough ink on the ground. This makes it very difficult for a Blaster or Gal to survive. Unless I am in a squad where I can know our team composition, I tend to stick to weapons that effectively shoot ink: Splattershot, Splattershot Jr, Squelcher, Splooshamatic.

As for "not caring" about your rank, that is exactly the right idea. Your rank isn't something you achieve. It is a rough gauge of your skill and experience in a team environment used for matchmaking. Treat it as such and you will be more happy.

This. I don't understand how A and S ranks still rush into whatever the objective is without inking the ground. I started playing with the blaster and always end up inking the ground because at some point in the game it's impossible for me to move around. And I'm obviously an easy target when I'm inking a path in the enemy ink to move forward. A few shots and they cut off my escape route.

Another thing: Why does nobody seem to use the d-pad for communication? The come here is not used enough. And when I use it, nobody cares. I inked a path for the RM and spammed the come here for the guy to follow me. Instead he stood still, shot a few tornados and got killed. I also use the nice-button a few times after I get killed to warn people that an enemy is around.

Wise words, all of this, especially about not caring about rank. This made me think about my earlier posts about avoiding certain modes to avoid ranking down. By doing that though, I'm missing out on a good chunk of the game. For what?

I had some better luck with the dual squelchers but also had the bad habit of not taking advantage of its range and allowing rollers and other short range weapons get too close.

Don't think it has been reported here but yesterday on the 23th of September. Japan had a Splatoon fan event called Splaket. Splaket 2 actually as it was the second one.

Yeah, this drives me nuts.
I can splat 2-3 of the enemy team, and be advancing the Rainmaker or Tower (in those modes), and see my three teammates (assuming all three are up) not following up at all. I understand if say one is playing a scoped charger and setting up a vantage point, but when (and this happened last night) all three of your teammates are rollers, are back around your base, and ignore your C'mon... just, oi.

Lost a match because the guy with the RM would not advance a few steps for us to win. Instead he just stood there until he got killed. Why, oh why.

You get used to it.
It always sucks.

Also, Sploosh-O-Matic... why did I only just learn of you.

Edit: Dear random players I am teamed with... I am planting beacons for a reason. USE THEM

Holy shit. Just lost a match because two of my teammates were in their base inking a line I guess?
Except they were in OUR base with the Rainmaker, while me and my teammate who were defending were splat'd 2v4, so we had no one to stop them.

I hope the next Nintendo home console doesn't have a screen on the controller. Nobody looks at the map anyway. At least nobody from my team.

I like the charm of needing to look at the controller... But yeah, so, so many people don't do it =/

Down to A- 36 now... Splat Walls, Port Mackerel, and Tower Control... ugh.

Edit: It's funny, I will have good games, but I'll generally only rant about my bad ones here, lol

I'm curious why nobody uses the tap feature when they're dead. You hear a sound through the GamePad speaker. I use it to tell people I'm jumping to them or that some enemy is nearby when I'm dead.

I will generally let out a nice booyah if I die and someone on my team is near me

Finally a win my team can really be proud of.

The enemy team pushed us to 1 distance, and we stopped them. Slowly we began to push back. We're about at 60 distance, match goes into overtime, and we just all put in a hard effort until we get the tower all the way for a knockout.

I think I annoy people when I tap from the dead continuously.

I booyah when an enemy kills me, when we both kill each other, or when I or a teammate get a really cool kill, so it's not that useful lol

I used to booyah a lot each time I died, but as it turns out this information isn't useful by itself to my team and tends to get ignored anyway. Instead I try to reserve spamming booyah only if I get flanked or if I get attacked and I'm sure an ally is going to get attacked from behind, but I don't know if that helps either lol.

It would be nice if Nintendo added a "Help!" on the left or right of the d-pad.
... though I could see some people spamming that...

I like the EU "to me" signal, though it gets translated to whatever the American and Japanese versions use on their end.

Haha in going through this again now. It's like when I see the enemy is getting into our section too much, it's usually because of them having beakons.

...but nah, let's just keep those beakons alive instead of getting rid of them :p

I'm convinced half the playerbase doesn't look at the gamepad and that kinda sucks.

I wouldn't mind a danger command though much like the others I don't know if I'll use the info well or be scared of using it in case I get a chain reaction.

To me sounds super serious after playing with C'mon for so long.
This is the same localisation that has the end of a match say "stop battling" instead of "game".

Wait I did? Haha neat. Gonna assume it was that camp trigger fish match I lost.

It was Camp Triggerfish, but you won. Pretty sure by a Knockout.

In that same match there was also an E-Liter I've seen a number of times, and a Rapid Blaster I see constantly. So many familiar names!

I've stopped reading names I must admit. They're almost always japanese majority of the time.

So any news about new maps after the bridge one?

Generally the only names I notice are those who I kill/die to. I browse forums while waiting for the match to start, and whenever everyone pops in, I'm busy looking at the weapons rather than names.

Keep saying I'll re-learn Hiragana just to read out the Japanese names. Would be cool to know how many are actually repeats.

That feeling of shooting off a Killer Wail, and then it instantly charging again to fire a second one immediately after the first.

Wow, I just lost one because while I was trying to get the RM carrier from behind (sadly I got his escort), all three of my teammates lined up in front of him for a triple splat allowing them to take the lead in the last 10 seconds -_-
This was followed by one of the most even matches I've ever had on Urchin.

BULL >_<
My team picked up the RM at 1 second, but it didn't count it and made us lose...

I taught myself Hiragana for this game, but have yet to see any repeats in public matches. I do see some names consistently in squads though.

You would have to teach yourself both hiragana and katakana though, unless "hiragana" is used as a group name and nobody told me. I always thought the group name was "kana."
