So apparently
it's set in our far future after the fall of man. I take it pollution went too far and sea life mutated or we did dark, secret, and horrifying experiments to them. After they gained true sentience they rebelled and got revenge for what we did to them and/or the planet. After which they took control of the planet and let it heal until they started making the same mistakes as us (industrialization and such), and now war is breaking out with the Octopi. Such is the endless cycle of sentient creatures. They feel it is their right to own everything instead of sharing. Even warring among their own kind for territory.

Deep ass lore.
That's....surprisingly dark.

Woah.
Pretty dark for a Nintendo game
Plenty of Nintendo games are 'dark' like that :p

well shit...

But hey it's just a theory, A GAME THEORY. lel

Some good abilities here. If it is too spoilerish, tell me quick. Rollers will chose the bomb sniffer, defense up for sure.

Tenacity pretty much confirms they're not adding bots.

Also, since there are 12 abilities slots, I wonder if you can stack up the same ability multiple times, eg. Swim Speed Up (on the headgear) + Swim Speed Up (on the suit) + Swim Speed Up (on shoes) = huge swim speed boost.

very unlikely, otherwise 3x damage up + Splatter Shot Jr. = gg balance

So is 1vs1 balloon popping the only local multiplayer mode? Is there anything else we know about local multiplayer at all?

Could you please guys spoiler your reactions towards anything spoiler-y? That fake spoiler had reactions that kind of gave away something about it. Thanks.

Was watching the Splatoon Direct again and noticed this:

We knew that this was going to be the case, but some people didn't know so yea, here's confirmation about the ability to have main weapons with different sub/special weapons.

the
far future
thing is implied by that sunken scroll...

Yeah, also a play on the
"Dead Sea Scrolls"
. I assume anyway.

I didn't pull everything out of my buttox. I built it around stuff I pulled from the game. Though I only came up with it in like 10 seconds.

Yes, that's the only mode. One play it on the Gamepad off-screen, the other with the Pro Controller on the TV. It's in the online manual of the Testfire app (which is the same as the full game).

Well, this is the spoiler thread. I think if you're uber sensitive about spoilers, you probably shouldn't be posting in here to begin with.

So that huge spoiler was make believe?

Yes, sorry for misleading everyone I couldn't resist. I didn't think anyone would actually believe that.

Though all this does it prove to me I actually wrote something believable and that actually raises my spirits :P

I edited it to say it's fake.

Until official lore is provided this is what I will choose to believe.

It's a pre-release spoiler thread. Not an unmarked spoiler thread. Common courtesy should be to spoiler-tag spoilers of any kind in here. We can discuss new findings without spoiling surprises for others in here. There's room for both.

There's a Treehouse Live video of them playing it from a few weeks/months ago (don't remember when that was)

edit: here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ultggnZb4OE&list=PL2JiZAV5BmDXna4NAI74vpSMMdmylVJx3&index=11

Just crosschecking but out of the maps shown at E3, Urchin Underpass is probably the map that changed the least. For reference, the e3 version is on the right and the release version is on the left
The main functional difference is that there's another path into the central part of the map that seems to have an unsplatable wall in the opposite direction. Other differences I noticed were that the side paths are a bit shorter and a bit wider, the grate at the start has been rotated 90 degrees onto the wall and a corner now leads to a ramp to the new path.

I was watching a Splatoon video and I found myself thinking "It would be cool to be an Inkling." What is wrong with me.

oh, I didn't know that. Also, you can have 6 perks? (e: or does that mean you can switch around perks on equipment?)

One gear can have up to four equippable perks. That means that with a full set you have up to 12 perks to choose from, but you can only equip one per gear.

From the OP:
With review copies in the wild, Splatoon's content is slowly dripping out.

This thread is a contained place to post all spoilers and relevant discussion regarding the full game. Please remember to mark your spoilers!
I'm mainly here for any new multiplayer info that may have been posted. Not interested in any spoilers for single-player.

So you have have defense up on your three pieces of clothes? Do they stack?

I am not sure I am liking how you can add all these abilities for one character.

So basically I can have all abilities on one character? Also you can open up more slots from spike?

I can't be sure cause I didn't play but three abilities max per character would have been enough.

Where did you see that?

I was under the impression that ALL abilities were active; it's just that the ability on the top cannot be re-rolled by giving a Super Sea Snail to Spyke.

EDIT: Actually nevermind, I don't see any concrete info about this.

Ok, I watched again the American Splatoon Direct: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQsZPYB0vMw&t=16m50s

“The number of abilities each piece of gear can have is based on its star count. The more stars it has, the more slots it will have.
Up to 4 abilities can be equipped per piece of gear.
However, other than the first one equipped, abilities are assigned at random. Frequent usage of the same gear apparently generates more abilities to equip.
In this way, squids can level up a piece of gear to enhance its strength, or make up for its weaknesses. And so, gear combinations can improve one's strategy.”

“Spyke can increase the number of slots allotted to gear. That said, one can't make a request without a Super Sea Snail. And it won't be always easy to acquire one. If one does take advantage of the services, it may be possible to optimize the abilities of every single piece of gear.”

On-screen Spyke text:
“I can reroll abilities on items wif full slots!”

It's still not 100% clear if “equipped” = “active”, but it is likely to be.

Good catch, totally forgot about that.

assuming that perks do stack and you want to optimize your gear (so, the same perks x3 across all your equipment) I'm sensing that there's gonna be a lot of re-rolling involved
though on the other hand, how are the stealth perks supposed to stack?
