Splinter Cell: Blacklist |OT| Warning: May Contain Trace Amounts Of Stealth

Don't care about no Ironside.

In Germany we still get the awesome Martin Keßler (German voice of Nicholas Cage) as Fisher.

Splinter Cell is one of the few franchises I've always played in German. Fuck yeah. His voice is so badass.

Kessler/Fisher is great and the secondary cast was OK, but all minor characters aren't done that well, imho.
Still prefer German though, but I will definitely check out the new guy.

Seeing as how they've turned Sam into a generic jingoist asshole, it's really no surprise that Ironside's no longer voicing him, considering how much of an effect he had on Sam's old personality, which was on the opposite end of the spectrum.

At least at 25 GBs I will be able to stare at the wonderful textures and gain a few more hours of playtime. Or at the very least hopefully uncompressed cutscenes.

Seems like the dates are just placeholders, I hope so.

I wish they just made a series refresh in terms of the main character if they needed a full mo-cap actor. Why not focus on a new young agent while Sam voiced by Ironside is the new Lambert except with his own personality still in tact? I mean, they changed everything else in the series but they're afraid to move on so they instead make their character magically grow YOUNGER? To me, that just creates a bigger disconnect than if they started with a new character while still having Sam as a presence in the game.

Then again, I guess we can all sit here and say we'd do a lot of things differently. :D It just doesn't make sense to do what they did from a story perspective. I mean, soon, Sam's daughter will be older than he is.

Edit: If Ironside left due to the story's direction, then I oddly have even more respect for him than I did before. I just wish he could become the new Lambert instead of stupidly having the head of a secret organization as a field agent in a very risky environment. That's like seeing Generals out on the frontlines of the battlefield. It just doesn't happen anymore.

Yup, this is exactly how I felt where they should have gone with the series...

Instead, there treating the character like hes James Bond IE loosley based around the same continuity. I can live with the latter, but yeah, would have much preffered the former

Gotta move on though, I suppose

Blacklist seems to be setting him up for an administrative role though so I wouldn't be surprised if this was his last game as a field agent and the next game would feature a new agent(or several)

Nothing on the length of the game? Were other Splinter Cells short?

You could probably beat the main story missions in around 6 hours playing assault. Playing stealthily will take a lot longer. Also, There are 16 (2 pre-order bonus) more special co-op missions, most of which can be played solo. It really is the largest Splinter Cell game ever.

Yeah, this has always been my experience with Ubi/Uplay games. They don't unlock at midnight.

Wondering if they are unlocked in other regions and if it's possible to VPN.

OP says "20th for North America, 23rd for everyone else" so it looks like VPN isn't an option. :(

None of the co-op missions require us to kill anyone right? They have detection limits but kills aren't required?

At least it makes the decision on whether I'll play Blacklist or X-Com The Bureau first easier.

Is Saint's Row 4 also tied to the release when Steam updates tomorrow afternoon/morning?

Thanks! Game is sounding fantastic.

Some of them are like the deniable ops hunter missions from Conviction, where you clear out an area, and more enemies come if you raise an alarm.

Sounds good. Man why can't we ever get an editor for this series? How hard could it be to come up with decent tools to spawn AI, set their patrol routes, player objectives and detection limits? Seems like such an obvious slam dunk, community would love it.

Nope, it's out in 5 hours.
Now we're talking.

Richard Dansky at Ubi Red Storm (former coworker) wrote the game. If you got complaints, take it up with him. He worked long and hard on it though, so constructive criticism is probably best.

Does he have a twitter? Also, did he handle all dialogue or was it mostly the plot?

Edit: I'm not a lazy bastard, twitter is blocked at work.

I'm actually into Tom Clancy gun-porn militaria so will be interesting to see if its even too much for me.

He does indeed: https://twitter.com/RDansky

Your second question would be one to ask him.

Facial capture in this game is a little ummm, unsure what it was because they had video recording the face but they weren't using dots like Kiefer has in MGSV, so I'm assuming the animators mostly keyframed the faces with video data as reference?

This is how they did the fine-tuning of the animation, mostly cinematic animation from what I saw - animators using video data as reference, including cameras that were directly in front of and recorded only their face.

Not all the animation was done that way, obviously, and there was an entire animation team in Toronto that I don't know a thing about.

It truly is one of my major pet peeves with a game since every other series makes damn sure to keep the character's progression in tact regardless of where the story goes. We didn't see Max Payne get any younger just so he can do more moves did we?
As a huge James Bond fan, who the actor is and what their age is really matters little to me.

Edit: I also believe a splinter cell movie has a lot to do with their choice of forcing Sam into a different, younger character.

That would be incredible.

Imagine an editor like the upcoming GTA V mission maker!

Hard to tell from youtube footage but at the very least I see tessellation on the rocks/pavement! Hopefully there are better AA options, notice a lot of aliasing in the video but again it's a compressed, 720P youtube video.

I mean, with Bond, we're trained to expect new Bond characters of all ages and physical statures but Sam Fisher is supposed to be the progression of the exact same character as the SC1 guy. If they didn't want to have his story progress along with his age, they should've had him do a Lambert role with a new agent to play as since the gameplay has changed enough to justify it even.

Anyway, I might be screwed trying to get my Ebay copy. Paypal still hasn't processed my check and I bought a Prepaid card but they want me to fucking fax my social security number and all relevant information which doesn't sit with me real well given previous experiences and it takes a few days to add a new bank account. My last hope is that my friend will send me the gift for me to pay knowing that I'll pay him back as soon as my check is processed, but it's all in limbo right now.

I'd really hate to lose out on a $22 copy of this game so I'm pretty annoyed right now...lol

Some are on the Ubi Forums saying that the PC Version will unlock at 12:01 tonight. It's not confirmed, though.

Hey guys, I just got some awesome news from Zack. Unfortunately since he has been so busy he hasn't gotten a chance to visit the forums lately, so I asked him directly if we were getting a midnight release for SCB on Steam, this is what he said.

"It should be live 12:01am. I checked it out."

So we WILL be able to start downloading the game tonight. One thing both Zack and I are not sure of, is if this is 12:01AM EST or PST. Either way, I'll bet you can guess what I'll be doing at 9:01PM tonight

See you soon!

The Future Shop and Best Buy sites say the games are in stock, BUT NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO THEY'RE NOT.

Goddammit, I drove out there for nothing.

One more day.

Sigh.

Hopefully true! And hopefully that will be in EST! If it's a 25 GB download I'll atleast be able to play a little tonight.

Is there a GAF steam group yet?

So anyone get the $169.99 edition that comes with the RC plane? I wonder what the quality of the plane is like. Gonna pick up the WiiU copy tomorrow and PC copy during thanksgiving sales.

Dont play with my emotions Legacy....

Isn't that how they did TLOU? Because those results were fantastic.

Nope. Naughty Dog hand animates their faces. They only do motion capture for their body and act it out with lines and everything, but they dub it over with a separate studio VO, then animate the faces with the separate VO.
