If you want a more valid reason, having the original VAs for each character from their respective series would please fans =p.

Except the problem then would be WHICH series to use each respective voice from. There are 3 different casts for X (Radio Dramas, movie, TV series) and 3 for Tokyo Babylon (Radio Drama, OVA, live action movie). Not to mention, since there are so many CLAMP series, you would end up having seiyuu playing multiple roles when it might not be suited since certain characters were never meant to meet across productions. Oh and Tange Sakura refuses to play Sakura again so, the MAIN complain here is void. :lol

Yup I agree! the OVA art was nicer as it was closer to the manga then the tv version, but still a decent first ep. The voices are pretty good as well, of the ones i easily recognize is manaka (Shinn Asuka, GSD), and his buddy (Onizuka, GTO).

Well you do realize that Mashimo is the ONLY director at Bee Train right? That being the case when you direct over 20 shows, you're bound to have a few that aren't horrible. He just doesn't have a consistant record at all which proves he just isn't a very good director. Joel Schumacher directed some decent movies too, that doesn't mean he doesn't suck ass as a director either. :)

I guess. However, I'd be wary to assume that a director could make an already crap series from the get go magically better. That's what i think the case is with stuff like Noir, Madlax, .hack, and Avenger. And I didn't say there was another director, I said it could be anyone else from writing to planning =P.

What was the reason why Tange wouldn't do that character again anyway? I heard about it but never found out why.

From what I can gather all of these shows differ in staff in terms of writing and planning (except noir & madlax, but they count as one anyways :p)

The one true constant in all of that crud is, you guessed it, Mashimo.

Well.... she retired from seiyuu work completely. Although recently she did come "out of retirement" to voice the chick in the PS2/PSP Ys6, but seeing how she doesn't want to work much in the field anymore, there's no reason for her to revisit the role of Sakura for what might be a rather long series.

Actually even Noir and Madlax share very different staff. The writer for Madlax was Kuroda, who also wrote great stuff like sCRYed, Planetes, Excel Saga and Gungrave (and a bunch of crap like Yumeria too). The main problem lies in the fact that all of the really crappy shows that Mashimo is known for, he also CREATED. As in it was 100% his intent and management that resulted in their creations. So yeah, we can all blame him! :D

Now that's a different story! :lol

speed grapher -

this looks like it has a chance to be decent. I just hope it concentrates on having a decent story and doesn't try to rely on shock/perversion aspects to try and keep the audience's attention.

club to death angel -

what. the. fuck. I'll be sending this first episode to people just for pure absurdity's sake, but I won't be watching any more myself.

Erementar Gerad -

this looks... eh. It could be good if it has awesome fight choreography, but if not... I think it will be a pretty meh series.

Law of Ueki -
I'm a fan of the whole fighting tournament thing... but turning trash to trees is possibly the lamest ability in existance. If the other characters have better abilities this could be good, but if this is the only main character I will become more and more depressed as I watch the show as this fucking retard of a character keeps winning.

Acquarian -
How are the japanese not sick of the whole premise of robots that join togethor? I've seen fucking voltron, I don't need another.

levious

That throwing stick stunt of yours has boomeranged on us.
what about that Agatha Christi/Poirot anime? The absurdness of it is intriguing to me. Guess the only other thing I'll check out for now is speed grapher.

The file I have says 01-02 but was clearly only one episode... I guess maybe I only have the 2nd one as well? I could see it as being episode 2 and episode 1 being the introduction of the characters. Episode I saw was the whole pedophile thing.

tsubasa chronicle seemed ok. I don't think I will remember it as a great series, but I could see enjoying it on occasion in an inuyasha kind of way. Where I watch it, and enjoy it, but can't stomach watching a whole lot at the same time.

btw, basilisk is tomorrow right?
is that a series or an ova or what? I haven't seen anyone really talking about it. How can peopel so easily ignore fighting ninjas?

I don't really know how to take in Beating Angel! Dokuro-chan. You get the entire pure perverted fetish kiddy psycho killer shoveled up your face at once.

But it is fun as hell :lol

Yeah Basilisk is tonight in Japan. It's a 24 ep series, not an OVA. It's being promoted by Gonzo as Ninja Scroll meets Romeo and Juliet, so... whatever. :lol

Did you guys hear about the 3rd FMP season?!! HOLY SHIT maybe this season isn't bad afterall. :D

It's been discussed long ago. It's not coming out until later in the Summer, so it's not even this season. :p

Tsubasa Chronicle was ok but I think they crammed too much into ep1. If the pacing is better, I could get into this, The music is fantastic BTW :D

Right now I'm just waiting until most of the shows I'm following end, then I'll check out the spring ones when a few episodes are out.

Cloudy did you get the pm? For some reason all VB forums are messing up on my PC and I can't track messages.

Futakoi Alternative

my sweet little twins fetish has been raped
I watched the original series last year WTF now they gave them guns?
Cute little Twins with GUNS! I may watch some more of it but I am not happy

I blame SEGA for this!

How VIOLENT IS JAPAN these days? (serious question I would like answered)

I'll stick with Club to Death Angel

I am guessing that that alternative gives them license to do pretty much anything they want. but I hear ya... I hate it when they go and change the formula that ya love. :(

on the other hand Futakoi Alternative rocks :)

^ I did stop the first ep minutes in because of the shock so I am not sure how good it is
I will watch it tonight 13 eps is not too hard I guess

just a little bit hard to see those same characters with guns
I can tell its a comedy so I will try to watch again

-

Someone answer how violent is Japan?

next Question I enjoy Clamp works but it seems that the mangas are always better
is it true that Tsubasa Chronicle is from the CLAMP camp?

If so what can you tell me about the manga?

How many chapters and volumes, is it complete or on going?

^^^Of what little I read of the manga, the characters venture from world to world in order to retrieve the lost memories of the main of the character. It's licensed, about 5 or 6 volumes released, still going in Japan.

Didn't get far enough to find out what the main plot is, but if manga is any indication the anime should be fairly episodic or have fairly short arcs until the main one kicks in.

I think Bebpo or FnordChan talk about it a few pages back.

Not to be a jerk, but im not sure how can you enjoy Clamps stuff and not realize Tsubasa is by them as well :lol

Unless im totally reading that wrong

The manga is about 8 vols. now I think, still ongoing.

Thanks I read a few pages back

I read a lot of hate for the company producing this :D
I can say so far it does not have the color or charm of CLAMP anime stories
but I can still tell it is a story from clamp but the pace is moving fast for a first ep

What is Chii doing in there? I was surprised by that

Angelic Layer has a nice connection with Chobits

Can someone tell me what to connection is with the Chii look-a-like in Tsubasa Chronicle?

I love Chobits the manga was much better so I guess I will read Tsubasa Chronicle manga if I can get my hands on it

:) yeah I just wanted to make sure since we are discussing so many animes in one thread I wanted to make sure that Tsubasa Chronicle was the CLAMP one.
edit:

(Angelic Layer and Chobits are the only CLAMP things I was exposed to before my question)

After watching it yeah I can see the CLAMP angel elements and the romance thing.

Colors still suck :lol

From what I gather all of Clamps' characters are used, but with different personas (Doesn't X/1999 do something similar?). It has some connection or tie-in with another on-going Clamp manga called XXXholics.

I got to try to read more CLAMP works still for me they are very hard to find

XXXholics is something I have heard about many times so I want to read that before Tsubasa Chronicle

Futakoi Alternative

Okay I gave it a shot and watched it... damn the pacing was so fast sometimes I had to rewind to catch the jokes

Seeing the first one does help the funny in this one
I like the way he tapped the bed at the end :)
They kept a lot of the twins' charm from the first series in that moment
This anime is not taking itself very seriously so far I agree it does rock

Do I have to watch Futakoi 1st season to watch Futakoi Alt? Futakoi first season sounds so boring that's why I didn' check it out from the beginning so I dunno.

I never watched anything of futakoi but the first episode of alternative made perfect sense to me in a, 'this is obviously supposed to be insane sort of way.'

No I don't think its needed completely twisted new story without any connection
The girls are very cute in the first season though - in Alternative they are not as cute

I loved Futakoi 1st season it was not the best thing from last season but I always looked forward to it.

I love cute animes and I found the hero's girl problems funny and wanted to find out his choice at the end --- All the character's personalities return in Futakoi Alternative only with action roles added and agressiveness

I now wish I did not delete my original 13 eps I could have compared the personalities a bit more

No X does NOT do anything similar. Tsubasa is basically alternate reality versions of characters, places and objects from everything CLAMP has touched spawned into an infinity alternate world shounen collect em all story with Crisis on Infinite Earths/Infinity Gauntlet style storytelling (some villain wants a super power that will allow him to control everything in the universe and travel the multiple worlds, it gets split out, heroes and villains from all over CLAMPverse fight over the power pieces, etc).

X on the other hand actually has characters from other manga (Tokyo Babylon and CLAMP Campus Detectives) in their real forms being part of the story, since they all take place in the same world.

I just found the first 50 chapters of the Tsubasa Chronicle

So its a clamp mega-universe oh joy :)
but I guess I would have to read other series to fully enjoy it if all I know is Chobits and Angelic Layer I am at a lost.

Looks like I would need so far
Cardcaptor Sakura
XXXHolics

Clover?
Wish?

Thats just too much...

but looks like I too will hate on BeeTrain's lack of talent

I actually had to rewatch FA a second time just to get everything. It isn't the fault of the fansubbers, it's that the dialogue is SOOO fast in the show and there is so much to translate, not to mention so many double meanings (no pun intended, like nokinoki which took 2 pages of text AND dialogue to explain properly). It is just a fast moving show and there is a lot to digest. That being said, I LOLed a number of times in the show.

The cat eating the bird

"Dirty Harry"'s introduction

Being told to give the other fighter the middle finger

Realizing he can't give him the middle finger with boxing gloves on

the tapping of the bed at the end

etc

If the second episode is as good as this, I will handidly tell anyone who complains about nothing to watch this season that they have no taste. The first episode wasn't ok or alright. It was excellent. :) Hope episode 2 keeps up the same zany style.

fix the spoiler Borghe

I agree 100% I hope they can keep the funny for the next 12 eps.

I want to see the other twins in the series my favorites have not shown up yet

oh you missed one of my favorites

You're all sticky Lala-chan! Face covered with white stuff :D

I just watched Futakoi Alternative. I really don't see the big deal about it, it's just like they converted a boring harem anime into a boring action anime.

borghe

aside from the fact that I would argue the comedy is a bigger part than the action is. almost every shot was setup to accentuate the comedy aspect first, and the action second. and the action served no purpose other than to support the comedy. and that is where the beauty of (at least) the first episode lies. it is almost an independent US filmmaker sensibility applied to the craziness and spastic nature of some of the faster animes.

if you don't like it I assume you aren't big into dark comedies. which is cool.. but I still think it is safe to say that the majority of people will like or love it.

Haha, I love dark comedies, but I didn't see anything funny in Futakoi Alternative. I'm not even sure what you mean by comparing it to a dark comedy considering nothing morbid or "dark" occurs in the show.

I don't think the majority of fans will like the show for one reason: 60% of anime fans (in the US) are women, and this show has 0% female appeal. :)

borghe

Loves the Greater Toronto Area
dark comedy is not just morbid or dark. dark comedy is finding humor in situations that should not be considered humorous. like
the mob boss' bird getting eaten by the cat, so he has to fight and loose in a boxing match where they expect him to die, only to be saved when a helicopter crashes through the roof and kills or seriously hurts almost everyone in the ring except for the main protagonists.

that's pretty much the definition of a dark comedy.

also, why would you say the show has zero female appeal? aside from a very slight amount of fanservice (very slight) and the ridiculous level of the action sequences (which actually played into the humor) I don't think there is anything specifically targetting the male audience there. in the first episode at least.

I see what you're getting at, but I've seen so many movies or read many books that just do what you're refering to way better. The movie Snatch (and its predecessor whose name I can't recall fully) is a good example of it. I personally didn't find any humor in those situations in Futakoi Alternative.

so... wheres my basilisk sub or at least impressions of people that saw it on TV?

I demand ninjas!

My impressions so far:

Emma: Wow! Great dialogue, wonderfully accurate setting, great art, great characters, and lots of heart. Probably my favorite this season, in close running with...

Speed Grapher: It's so nice to see a show that's not made for angsty and/or hormonal teenagers once in a while. It takes risks and feels 'free' and unrestricted in the same way that movies like Tokyo Godfathers, Ghost in the Shell, and Wings of Honneamise do. Great direction and animation, too, and the story's pretty interesting so far.

Dokuro-chan: It's nice having a good nonsense-humor show (almost) each season. It's about on the same level as Shinobuden, but without the Wakamoto and with less yuri and more gore. I love seeing genre cliches lampooned/destroyed left and right. Monkey-head-boy = OMG

Futakoi Alternative: Wow, what a waste of animation budget. It's one of tne of the most expensive-looking shows I've seen in a while, but it's 100% unoriginal, dull, unfunny, and conventional, with absolutely nothing about it that's worth paying attention to. Full Metal Panic! Fumoffu did the whole alternate take on a conventional show thing much, much better. I have no patience for this kind of filler.
