You guys act like I haven't already done that and I'm not just working up the courage to post it here.
Sweet, I'll post my Banner of the Stars x Spice and Wolf crossover fanfic when you do! Unless it's tomorrow or something because it won't be done yet, still in the "research" stage, yes, that's what I'll call it.

And where is your definition of the term coming from? Google is just telling me it's porn, not another word for gore.
The Oxford dictionary tells you that Hentai means porn. That's not what the word means (though it does tell you what it 'literally' means).

Not trying to doubt you or anything, just genuinely curious.

It's not another word for gore, it's another word for gross. That's the root of your misunderstanding. The actual act of violence has nothing to do with it, but rather what is graphically depicted. The detailed sight of guts and shit lying on the ground is not just "gore" anymore. It's just sick shit.

Guro can also be used to refer to things which have nothing to do with violence whatsoever, like deformed circus acts, and people with no legs.

The term hentai was first introduced to me as cartoon porn. I'd say that's a pretty accurate definition.

In the English language? Absolutely. Anime also means "Japanese animation" even though that is not the Japanese meaning. But that's not what I'm debating here.

That was in the context of this:

I don't care what "people in the west" talk about. I'm talking about what the term means.
though I can't say duckroll would exactly support me in that one. But it's just a thing of misusing words from other languages. It's not exclusive to Japanese words.

Ed: I am slow. I was going to use the 'anime' example too.

To be fair, I'll take CLAMP's stick figures over Key's deformed monstrosities any day of the week. Now let's all chill and put the sharp objects down.

As far as I know Duckroll's the only one who whipped anything out....

CCS fans is redundant!

Anyone who does not like CCS is a non-person whose opinions do not matter!

The question is whether you'd screw fap to write fanfic for like stick people!

Pretty sure stuff like "hentai", "guro", "shota" and the like would technically be considered loan words in English.

"lolicon" is pretty much the same thing only in reverse, the Japanese borrowed that from English.

Anyway, point is words are words and their direct textbook definition isn't nearly important as how they're used colloquially, which can of course differ between cultures like in these cases.

Is this another one of those times where I wronly take 7th's (or someone's I forget who) vocal opinions to be indicative of the majority?

If so my sincere apologies!

::sticks for everyone::
From incest, to shota, to guro, to....this.
Guilty on charges one, two, and four. But guro/ero-guro is a no-no for me. Total turn off. I still enjoy seeing it out of morbid curiosity but that's not because I like it or anything. I'm just masochistic when it comes to my choice of entertainment.

I think I should clarify this guro thing once and for all. If you say that when most people speaking English only use "guro" to talk about sick shit that gets them off, then yes that's probably an accurate thing to say. If you're actually talking about the Japanese meaning, then there is no sexual implication in the use of "guro" on its own at all. That is exactly WHY "ero-guro" exists as a term. I'm trying to explain what the term actually means here, and how Japanese people use it.

For example, in Akira, when Tetsuo transforms near the end, that's a great example of what you would describe as a guro transformation scene. That doesn't mean that it was animated or drawn to get people off. That would be ridiculous. There's nothing sexual about it. Do some people with a fetish get off on that, I'm sure, but that's not the intention. The intention is to make it disgusting and weird as fuck.

I still don't know if this idea of yours is a good one, as having Spoor and Holo in the same scene together might cause a singularity of awesome that would cause the universe to collapse in on itself, but if you write I'll draw. Or "draw" as it were.
That's the plan!

But I'm really going to do it, I'm like 1/3 of the way there, I know how it starts, who starts it and why and once I start writing the rest will take care of itself but I'm seriously lacking when it comes to remembering some key names and terms. I want this to be as accurate as possible so I want to get it all correct, I'd like for it to be indistinguishable from the canon material in that regard.

I wont ask for it but I'm not going to complain about it if it happened....
