I really do not want their relationship to be magically mended.

Same goes for Ohana's loser childhood friend. Minko is much more suited for her anyway.
No, it's time that heavily friendzoned childhood friends rose up and took the girl by the boobs.

I think it goes to show that anime would be taken seriously if it was live action and on a cable network. Suddenly it becomes edgy and adult instead of for childish misogynistic manbabies.
Hell, isn't this the case in Japan? Cartoons will be cartoons, and it's hard to break the perception that animation somehow isn't as mature as something involving meatbags.

Do you think Ko has the tenacity when he ran away after he confessed when she after she was sure to have gone far out of his reach?

Well, I can see an ending where they all get together again but the mother takes off because she's not willing to be tied down and Ohana stays with grandma, setting her up to inherit the place. That's the "middle" ending anyway. :p

Yup, pretty much. I mean, I'm glad GoT exists for the fantasy nerds, but the fact that it gets a pass from critics kind of bothers me a bit. Taste and class is really arbitrary it seems.

Really? No fanservice to be found here.

I can nearly see their necks! The Victorians would be very aroused.

I dunno, that shot where shy girl just got out of the water seemed pretty fanservicey to me.
That's more like it.

That just comes down to personal taste though, because nothing is original at this point. I joke, but it's why the same topics come up in the anime threads after all.
Yeah, s'pose so. Now that I'm getting older, it's getting harder to relate to these high school drama bullshits.

On a slightly unrelated note, I also HATE 5 Centimeters per Second with an undying passion. It's not that I thought it was bad, far from it, the direction, animation, and characterizations were fantastic, top tier stuff. I just couldn't stand how they essentially ended it all with no real confrontation or resolution. I raged SO hard after I saw it the first time. >:|

I don't think Ohana can express anger, so she just channels it into very forceful optimism.

This way I can pretend that she is a mentally troubled child who has difficulty expressing negative emotions instead of a one dimensional super optimistic girl.
Well, considering she was kind of angry in last episode, she's hardly one dimensional
trejo said:
And why is the fanservice getting so much flak, anyway? Is it really so hard to shrug it off? I'll readily admit it was sorta unnecesary but some posts here are treating it as almost game-breaking and I'm just not seeing that.
There was a context for it and it was kind of unnecessary, but it was hardly game breaking. It didn't need to be there, in other words, and there isn't much else to complain about.

Isn't that the point? :)

I personally didn't like 5cm that much because there's not much substance in it beyond the pretty backgrounds and the mono no aware!

Not sure if serious but...

The expectations coming in and the audience is incredibly different.
Well duh!

Of course it's necessary, how else are they going to sell the discs?

Do people not like Nodame Cantabile? I expected that to be the one recommended first. Unless Jerk's already seen that.
I'm sure they do, but whatever reason they didn't get in first!

No doubt for exploitive purposes. But I still doubt it's going to become a prominent part of the show, unless the novelist becomes the focus of the story. Which seems unlikely.

Maybe the novelist (can we call him Taro yet? :p ) will find himself competing against Ohana's mom in some writers competition for smutty stories. =D

Yes. Which is why I hate it. Yes, it was fresh, yes it was unexpected, and yes it was depressing as all hell, but it was like that without actually being "sad". It was all like "well, shit happens" and if that was the whole point, I would have asked "WHY THE FUCK DID YOU MAKE THIS SHIT IN THE FIRST PLACE THEN? TO TALK ABOUT HOW WE'RE ALL DUST IN THE WIND OR SOME SHIT? EXCUSE ME, I'M GOING TO GO LISTEN TO KANSAS BECAUSE THEY'RE MORE EFFICIENT ABOUT IT."

Eh, just seemed like a gag to me. Besides, isn't that what everyone with a penis (or a distaste for them) watching the show is thinking anyway? The show's fanfic'ing itself before anyone else can fanfic it!

Yeah, that's Japanese sentimentality and if you don't like it, I suggest you never watch Aria. :lol

Some things are better left... unanimated? It's not making me want to drop the show or anything but it really wasn't necessary. Sort of like the Maxwell's Demon bit in Meduka.

Agreed.

Still, anything keeping her from looking like a one-dimensional bitch is good.
I don't know, if she could be a bitch forever that would be fine by me. If you've ever read any stories about how evacuees from the major metropolitan cities of England, and by evacuees I mean children sent on their own by train to live in the countryside, were treated by the people who decided to pick them up from the station it would hardly be "poor writing" to find a child treated cruelly by those who were supposed to look after them.

Oh god why do I still remember that?
Her weed scythe turns into a full scythe that lets her instantly befriend whatever the blade touches.

Well they need to keep the CONFLICT up so hopefully it won't be fixed any time soon.

I believe that's the SEED mode animation or whatever.

EDIT: Oh hrm, the Fumoffu one. That explains the different character art.

I'd also like to point out that no-one is talking about the character who was used for the most fanservice throughout that episode of Hanasaku Iroha - the writer. He had far less clothes on and displayed far more skin than any other character during the whole episode, but I don't see people bringing that up.

Dog Days 3: A much slower episode after all the action last time but it was still okay. The explanations about the whole battle game and such were a gentle tug at my rpg loving heart. It's a little interesting that in those battles there's no threat of death because of some protective forces in the battlefield but in the wild roads/jungles/whatever beware of permadeath! We also get the standard main character accidentally pops into the reserved for the princess open air bath deal. To his credit, the sign wasn't in a language he could read. And the princess was pretty cool about it. The male rival from the cat side and his posse kidnaps the dog princess in order to challenge Shinku. The best part about this is that the kidnapping of VIP royalty is part of their battle game so we're essentially on to the next stage with hopefully more action.

I love this stuff.

Thats because they're too busy drawing him in erotic poses with the grandmother.

Bro no Exorcist:

a.k.a. the broest anime of the season. It's a battle shonen where two brothers bicker and be bros and shit while battling demon bros.

Pretty good. The original stuff worked out well in the end, in that cynical 'we'll get an abused little girl to tug at your heartstrings' way.

There was definitely a resolution.

I think I actually like the anime beginning more than the manga
in the manga Rin comes off too much like a rebelious delinquent type in the opening chapters, when for the rest of the series he is more the stubborn screw up. The anime does a better job of showing the tone of his character
