Sonoda Kenichi did extensive research on Chicago before doing the storyboards for Riding Bean, and according to our Chicago correspondents, with the exception of the truckstop, every location seen in the film actually exists. In addition, to give the soundtrack an authentic flavor, the producers hired some of the top studio musicians in Los Angeles to compose and perform the music.

I think you better treat them as collector item.

I have more interest buying those pricy boxset than importing 100+ bucks plastic figure.
True on both accounts. It's a bit of a shame there's no basic option even if it came at a premium price point anyway, but that's how Aniplex rolls. I blame more the people who lumped America and Japan together as a single region really, kinda sucks for ANYONE to share Japan's region that wasn't already a crazy expensive market.
It's all relative. I paid whatever the ridiculous price was for Animeigo's (yes they used to release shit) Macross back in 2001 without regret.
Yeah, definitely. It's not really something I'd avoid getting out of principle or anything anyway, more a matter of if I can actually rationalize it or not.

And yeah, they've had the linear notes for much of their stuff for quite awhile, I kept consulting them for UY ones while renting the series from Netflix. Hopefully they're still there even with the license lapsed (and hopefully someone gets that up for streaming at least, too good of a series to just vanish on us for legit viewing.)

EDIT: Though if it's just an upscale I guess we're not missing out on much anyway.

I think I knew at one point but completely forgot. It's a nice reference at any rate and helps me trust my memory a little bit more!

Honestly I cant think of anything at the moment that I want thats really out of reach.

There's a lot of things not worth their cost that we knowingly buy anyway because we just want it THAT much and know there isn't really going to be another option. Not like you can go up to Aniplex and bargain for a lower price after all.

Fate Zero aniplex sets lol. Dont wanna know what I paid for them.

Noooo, that's been retconned out of existence. It never happened, just like every Star Wars novel.
At some point someone at DC finally realized the simplest way to clean up continuity is to just reboot the motherfucker and not make stories explicitly about cleaning up decades of continuity.

Well, I already know one set was about the same cost as that Gurren Lagann one, so we can extrapolate from there.

What is the reason for these incredibly fucking high prices for BD boxes, anyways?
We're the same blu-ray region as Japan. And anime isn't exactly the most profitable thing out there for its cost. Europe notably get cheaper sets more reliably from Aniplex, while Aniplex will literally ship us the same set that they release in Japan.
I'm glad though there's at least one anime publisher in US that not packing 13 eps in one disc for their release, yeah despite the price.
They're DVDs but the Nozomi releases I got hit a nice middle ground: a bit higher cost, but not insanely so and you get a pretty good package for it.

Isshuukan Friends 4

Best show, great episode, etc. All the things I say about this show every week.

It was certainly a little unnerving seeing Fujimiya
honestly believing that Kiryuu-kun was her only friend
. And the way the whole thing was resolved was super cheesy in the best way - the "beats" of the plot felt contrived but the characterisation behind them was beautifully genuine. It was super sweet how
after all that effort to get her "memories" back, they managed to have the perfect making-up scene without even looking at them
.

Fate zero is worth it though. Got a ton of cool stuff with it including extended episodes.
And anyway they released or will release sets that are "merely" pretty expensive rather than seemingly priced as if it were competing with game consoles. Though I'll still stick with streaming to see if I at least like it enough. I did enjoy the story of what I played of Fate/Extra though (which is most of the way through) so I'm expecting Fate/Zero to blow it away entirely.
This is the price we pay to avoid region locking
Yep, as much as we've cheered to not have it for video games this is kind of showing why it's not inherently a bad thing. Though games kind of have that language barrier built in so it's really just about removing Japanese text options, and the price disparity isn't QUITE as crazy. Sure, $90 for the latest DQ seems pretty damn expensive, but at least we frequently have CEs that cost that much anyway and it's only ever about double the cost at worst, maybe triple for handheld titles though that's closer to double with the $40 standard. That GL set's more like 10 times what a similar more barebones set would've cost.

Fate Zero as an anime is pretty damned great. It looks gorgeous and has some cool characters and is overall a quality production. Also it has Rider and Rider is the fucking BOSS.

Not including the movies? seem like good deal.
Series, movies, and Parallel works confirmed so far. They'll do 4 disks per 26 episodes like with Bebop probably.

I guess I should buy an all-regions BD player at some point.

Gundam 00 S1 - 3

All right then, at least these guys have some sense of morality, and are willing to accept an enemy's surrender. So kudos there.

Huh, these guys are actually making some peace progress with their work already. I'm still willing to bet though that their tactics is going to cause everything in this world to go to hell at some point.

Being in the B region isn't that good either whenever they don't release stuff on BD. Or at all, like Hidamari Sketch.

Isshuukan Friends 4

So yes, we have the protag being jealous, and the very coincidental happenings with the diary being lost AND the poster falling out below the alcove AND she getting sick on the weekend.... ok, that was stupid as fuck. But they made peace and she smiled and it was all sugar coated and fluffy like always is and that's the important thing
. I suppose it's good that the series will be only 12-13 episodes, because in that quantity, the sweetness is nice, in higher doses, it would give me headache and boredom.

Point, though that should've been easy to predict based on game releases. But at least if they broke it up into 4 regions with Japan and much of East/South East Asia as its own then we'd probably be better off price-wise on average, especially for the region free player people.

Eh, to be quite honest it's a pretty bad set. Overpriced overdressed upscales zzzzzz.
Have the UK BDs locked for about 60GBP though.

lol what?

It's actually a super good upscale. It's clear they spent a lot of time working with the materials and there is a ton of stuff in it. Not to mention the high quality of the packing materials and the fact that it has English subs (and dub?). It's worth it's price much more than pretty much all the Japanese BDs on the market right now.

Really liking the shortness of it, really makes me realise how bloated Z was with filler.

There's a lot wrong with Z that not even a manga-centric cut of it can save. To go from the gerat show that was Dragon Ball to Z always blew my mind how bad it got.
