How the hell do those of you with full-time jobs keep up with the thread? It's virtually impossible.

When you have a job that involves sitting in front of a internet connected PC its not that hard. That said, I normally just read the last 3-5 pages of the thread whenever I log into GAF.

Yeah, learn to quickly decide if something is worth reading closely or not when catching up. Sure, it's unfortunate, but something's gotta give for it to be practical.

This is why I like bolded show titles and screens. Can easily check if it's something I'm familiar with or interested in before moving onto the text of the post.

Right, like I just went full skim like when you and firehawk were talking about merchandising in anime
and I thought it was dumb
or how there was some sort of arguing over who has shit anime tastes because personal feelings
this was also Decade's fault

Pretty easy to skim.

I don't see what's difficult about it. Even if you were just checking once at the end of the day, it wouldn't take you that long to skim through everything. I guess if you're especially slow at reading it might be rough.

Oh, yeah, I do this frequently. I guess if you were reading everything, even if you didn't care what the contents were about, it might take you awhile.

UPDATE - Full list with an explanation for each choice so you can tell me how wrong I am available here http://baoh.tumblr.com/

This is all firehawk12's fault. Don't blame me!

Really. This is a terrible, awful idea, but I've written a list and I'm posting on the internet. I'm so sorry.

Hmm. Looking at that list I've hardly watched anything, at least to completion. I've watched and dropped a bunch of stuff part way through.

The completed list would be:

Movies
Princess Mononoke
Spirited Away
Ghost in the Shell
Patlabor 1/2
Wolf's Children
Akira
Wings of Honneamise
5 Centimetres Per Second

OVA's

TV
Ghost in Shell Stand Alone Complex (Both Seasons)
Serial Experiments Lain

And really none of those are things I really like to rewatch or even feel the need to own.

How the hell do those of you with full-time jobs keep up with the thread? It's virtually impossible.

Well I usually look through the thread during work cause woo work PC.

And at this point, I basically skim through stuff. I probably barely read 15% of the thread anyway!

How many of these shows are available to watch on CrunchyRoll/Netflix?

There is not going to be a limited edition release for Railgun S according to the following post from a Social Media Manager at FUNimation.

http://www.funimation.com/blog/2014/04/16/win-a-certain-scientific-railgun-nendoroid/?replytocom=2033#respond

This is quite upsetting and confusing. Why are other series still getting LE releases? Is it because they are one-cour series, DVD/Blu-ray combos, or just to get some purchasers upset that this series won't match the packaging of the first season? I remember Jormungand did not have a LE for either season, but that was a split-cour series.

Off the top of my head, Rose of Versaille, Gintama, Kaiji and the flowers of evil are on CR.

So is TTGL.

Hulu has a good amount of them. GitS: SAC, Baccano!, and several others.

Utena is also but avoid that one as it's the dub which is apparently a disgrace.

Goddamn I love these fucking faces, you have no idea.

Ah, poor Hakuya.
I wish they'd actaully make some progress romantically. We're running out of episodes and they're still at the "I'm so embarrassed!" stage.

Gah, you can't just let me have my romantic show can you?

Ah finally! You're running out of ti-

...well, shit.

I dunno, it's just... I guess it really sucks to be obsessive about stuff. Even if I know I can safely skim past like 80% of the thread (no offense meant for everyone who posts a lot), I'm always worried of missing some really interesting tidbit buried amongst everything. I also want to be able to interact with the thread more than just posting news and such, but having to skip over large swathes of pages makes it more difficult.

Skip the posts of anyone in the top 5 to save time. Chances are nothing worthwhile is being said!

It's really hard to say. Depending on what Aoyama wanted to do, he could pretty much extend it as long as he wanted.

Yeah, it's tough to guess on how long it will go based on the format.

I could see the next arc after the current one being the final arc (although in Detective Conan, an arc can run for 5+ years) or I could see him keeping it going for multiple future arcs and further plot twists. Aoyama did indicate last year in an interview that there are other BO members who would be introduced in the future, so that probably points to it going for a while longer.

I won't feel confident on making any guesses on the series being close to the end until he starts bringing up and resolving long standing stuff like the bloody disk, Itakura's computer program, Vermouth's aging thing, etc.

It's acceptable, as long as you don't skip my wisdom-filled post :)

... though I guess it's better than reminding us how cruel reality is. :(

it's okay

Narita is working on Stealth Symphony

it'll be super successful and the anime adaptation will do good and people will remember that Baccano never got a sequel and we'll get one in 2016.

And Yet The Town Moves 7

Again, I don't like this whole internal yelling and exaggerating when some moment occurs thing, so I got pretty annoyed at the beginning of Sanada and Hotori hanging out, but it let up fairly soon. I thought the part where it showed his face at the various intervals of Hotori holding his had was funny.

Hotori and her brother's midnight adventure was pretty good too. Especially when she nailed Sanada in the face with the slingshot.

I guess for now I can sort-of do things the way that cajun does, except taking posts from more than one page at a time, skimming faster, quoting way less, and hoping nothing interesting gets missed along the way.
I don't remember seeing this ever discussed in here, but did you guys know that the author of Kino's Journey, Keiichi Sigsawa, is actually involved in Sword Art Online II? He's apparently helping the anime production with supervision on the guns and stuff. Pretty cool stuff. I guess it's not surprising that top talents in the industry would all want to work on one of the most popular artistic and cultural works of the 21st century.
Ha ha ha
I honestly can't tell if you dislike the show or are just extremely indifferent about it
Anyway, I guess this is a good thing? Would be nice for the action to be a bit better than some of the lackluster sword fights in S1.
superhugelist
I admire your dedication in putting that whole document together. I've only seen like five or six of them -- plus about half the Ghibli movies -- but nearly my entire anime watching resume (with a few exceptions) has been the few things airing on US TV when I was a kid and simulcasts/currently airing shows from about 2010 onwards. I can't begin to figure out how long some of you people have been anime fans, or are just avid collectors, to have nearly everything on that list already under your belt, especially the 50+ episode shows.

As a side note, on the issue of both this and "The List", it's one of the few times that I feel a lot more distant from the community here since I have zero interest in "so bad it's good" shows, but at the same time, with all due respect to Jexhius especially given the amount of effort that went into the explanations on his list, a lot of the "essential" shows are things I have no real interest in, especially with limited time, no matter what sorts of important qualities you might tell me they have. To be fair I have had a few of them on a wishlist to watch "soon" for a while now, but never really put in the effort to advance on that.
I don't know if this ties into any discussions about subjectivity vs. objectivity (was there one of those here last week? I don't remember), but still.

How the hell do those of you with full-time jobs keep up with the thread? It's virtually impossible.

Skimming. When I wake up/get home from work and there's 500 posts to read, I sure as hell don't read every one of them in depth. Most of the time when this thread had its sudden bursts of activity, there's a lot of fluff anyway.

No Game No Life 2

I must say the animation is really colorful and great, it definitely gives a sense of fantasy. This episode was pretty funny considering the princess banging her head on the wall and the two siblings seizure attack damn. And who would of know that Rock Paper Scissors would be that deep. Waiting for next week to watch.

you should read about game theory. its fascinating stuff :3

darkside31337

Tomodachi wa Mahou
Black Bullet 02

This show is actually pretty awesome, 2nd episode was a lot better than last week. Way better than what I was expecting given the premise, definitely sticking with this one. My favorite show so far out of I've watched.

Also would totally watch Tenchu Girls.

Patlabor New OVA Series - 8 "The Seven Days of Fire"
In which, the maintenance team is found to have an entire mountain of porn, is punished and thrown under harsh regulations, and who proceed to form radical factions for rebelling against the authority and undergo black market trading.

Oshii did the screenplay for this one and his mark is all over it. This episode had a narration guiding it the entire way, and something about it's thoroughness in how it described the various radical groups that formed up definitely felt like his doing. That sort of ridiculous seriousness in how it treats an utterly trivial matter is, I'm sure, what will show up in Urusei Yatsura. It at least felt a bit like that in Beautiful Dreamer. In-fact, in both Beautiful Dreamer and this episode we had various allusions to Nazis as a source of comedy.

There was a terrific Akira reference in here that any fan could see coming a mile away. A song starts playing with that tribal percussion with which Akira is synonymous, and once a motorcycle appears on screen you just know what's going to happen. It was beautiful:

Very fun episode. The show has been on a great comedic streak.

Wow
this silence is harsh as hell
. The shows been
moving a hundred miles an hour with loud, vibrant personailities...and now...there's nothing
. Quite moving.

Mayura = the best ladybro ever.

Aww yeah, finally! Now THIS is what I signed up for! Shame that the heartfelt romantic stuff had to be crammed into the last few minutes of the show!

Well, I guess that's that.

Overall, this has been a pretty fun ride, though I'm somewhat disappointed. Going in, I felt like it was gonna ride that line between a comedy and romance beautifully, but it doubled down on the comedy and kinda left the romance in the dust.

I mean there's still a lot to love about it. The comedy is a blast, the entire cast is just stunning, and it looks pretty as all get. My single biggest gripe is that I really wish there could've been more development in the romance department. While I wasn't expecting huge character growth from the rest of the cast who play their rolls of comedic relief damn well, I expected more than just the standard "oh this is soooo awkward!" reactions over and over, aside from the very end. But if you're going in for the funny, you'll be quite satisfied.

Also, my other big gripe they barely touch on
what Hakuya, Mashiro, and Konoha are exactly
. All that's brought up is that
they're shapeshifters, have crazy acrobatic skills and have some 'power' or whatever
, but then it's never really expanded on. It feels kinda tacked on and they really should've expanded more on that somehow.

Still a fun ride though, I'll admit. I get that the manga is on going, so maybe we'll get a second season? I'd still be down.

Next: the two Engaged to the Unidentified OVA

I don't even know what to seriously think of that, not that the premise sounds too great.

But that's OK, the director of the adaption did Samurai Flamenco and the first episode of that already won me over.

I got reminded of Cajun when I was listening to this song (mainly the video) after the small talk on race

(FYI it's a Fatboy Slim music video, about a man's daily life and karma).

Detective Conan 293:
Fantastic end to the case. This was really one of those moments where you feel bad for a lot of the people involved, between the victims and the killer. The story did a great job weaving in all of the details of events from 5 years ago into the present day, and once Conan and Heiji figure out what exactly happened in the past, they can finally piece things together in the present. Definitely a standout case for me.

Asking until she appears: has Mofukichi appeared in No Game No Life yet?!?!
Not yet, sorry.
Well... to get back to animation for a moment... ANN recently interviewed BahiJD
That huge answer he gives about in-betweens, animating on 1s/2s/3s, camera focus, and basicallly extolling Mitsuo Iso's work from EoE is pretty impressive and informative.
The Kill la Kill hype was really just misplaced Little Witch Academia hype.
Whether or not you meant this seriously, in retrospect, it almost feels accurate. But I guess having a government-funded short movie as your first major headlining project is going to set some lofty expectations.

rip BONES

This is the worst I've ever seen from BONES on a visual and directorial level. I guess all these shows are too much for them.

So somehow there are two shows about mechs that are powered by horniness and therefore require both a male and female pilot this season. Even in terms of absurd ideas, these guys are repeating themselves.

Two? Daimidaler and?
That Shogun virgin show. He has to find a female partner to activate his virgin powers so that he can unlock the power of the mech. You can imagine that a harem ensues. Heck, they already threw in a catgirl.

Kagami linked a fake story about a guy who wrote a computer program that generated LN plots based on stealing the plotlines of 600 other LNs, and I'm starting to believe that it is more real than fake. lol
