Are you saying duckroll deserves to suffer?
Choose your next words carefully they may very well be your last.

No. I would never.

I just believe the universe just balances good and evil. Duckroll has been unusually happy these last few weeks. The universe took notice and is now bullying him. Hey... I don't make the rules, the anime gods do.

Are you going to make him watch Clannad?

That would further my goals....

But nah. I've already got Branduil and Corvo. I filled my quota for this quarter.

BGBW

Maturity, bitches.
Wait, so if the universe is all about balancing when does the day when I get everyone's unadulterated attention rather than being Akari~n'd all the time happen?

Britain already had its fill of good news when Kiniro Mosaic got its second season. I'm afraid things aren't looking good for you.

Universe isn't allowed to dull out that much happiness. Last time that happened WWII started. Do you want to be the reason WWIII starts? I know anime makes it look cool but trust me you don't want that on your conscience.

And that's the reason we will never get Spice & Wolf III.

I admire your dedication in putting that whole document together. I've only seen like five or six of them -- plus about half the Ghibli movies -- but nearly my entire anime watching resume (with a few exceptions) has been the few things airing on US TV when I was a kid and simulcasts/currently airing shows from about 2010 onwards. I can't begin to figure out how long some of you people have been anime fans, or are just avid collectors, to have nearly everything on that list already under your belt, especially the 50+ episode shows.

I... watched Akira in 1994?, Gits in 1996?, and Evangelion in 1999. Also stuff like Dominions, Ninja Scroll, Fist of Northern Star, etc. Though until 2003 when I started having broadband, I didn't start watching anime tv series more regularly.

Jexhius list isn't so big, if you happen to have similar tastes.

Well it might result in a nice tag.

I don't see what's difficult about it. Even if you were just checking once at the end of the day, it wouldn't take you that long to skim through everything. I guess if you're especially slow at reading it might be rough.

Oh, yeah, I do this frequently. I guess if you were reading everything, even if you didn't care what the contents were about, it might take you awhile.

It takes a while but if you do it often its very manageable.

I dunno, it's just... I guess it really sucks to be obsessive about stuff. Even if I know I can safely skim past like 80% of the thread (no offense meant for everyone who posts a lot), I'm always worried of missing some really interesting tidbit buried amongst everything. I also want to be able to interact with the thread more than just posting news and such, but having to skip over large swathes of pages makes it more difficult.

I dont skim but I do check on the thread after it goes for several pages. I never let it go unchecked for too long so I dont fall behind. My erratic sleep patterns and general behavior allow me to check up on it using gaf mobile form many places so Im rarey disconnected entirely from it. Ill check it after pulling into a parking lot and stopping or in line at the cash register. I check it sitting at home watching TV and at work on my spare time. Im pretty much addicted to this forum for better or worse.

Oh thank goodness, the Kiniro Mosaic anime sequel is actually going to be a second season and not just an OVA.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

wait was mahouka really hyped around here?

It kind of was by a few people. not really though. Some fans of the manga.

yes?

Since I've been an anime fan for a while I've had a chance to watch many of these shows or films as they aired or came out, which helps I guess.

As a side note, on the issue of both this and "The List", it's one of the few times that I feel a lot more distant from the community here since I have zero interest in "so bad it's good" shows, but at the same time, with all due respect to Jexhius especially given the amount of effort that went into the explanations on his list, a lot of the "essential" shows are things I have no real interest in, especially with limited time, no matter what sorts of important qualities you might tell me they have. To be fair I have had a few of them on a wishlist to watch "soon" for a while now, but never really put in the effort to advance on that.
I don't know if this ties into any discussions about subjectivity vs. objectivity (was there one of those here last week? I don't remember), but still.

Thing is, lots of people in the thread aren't going to like these kinds of shows very much because that's not what they're watching anime for. Which "essential" titles do you think you're not interested in and why? I can easily say, for instance, that I have no interest in watching either Urusei Yatsura or Maison Ikkoku because they are long shounen romances and don't interest me thematically or aesthetically (and, in Urusei Yatsura's case, it's pervy). So I'll never watch those. I'll probably never watch War In The Pocket because I don't really like Gundam very much. And so on, and so on.

Leaving that aside - what is it you want to discuss about anime? This will sound harsh but you clearly need to find an outlet for your fandom other than posting news (although hopefully having a job will help with not making that quite such an urgent issue for you!) - so what do you want to talk about? People are always willing to discuss things, that's the point of the thread!

So somehow there are two shows about mechs that are powered by horniness and therefore require both a male and female pilot this season. Even in terms of absurd ideas, these guys are repeating themselves.

Very much not a new idea - Aquarion, Godannar (sort of), hell even De:Vadasy where the mech were powered by orgasms (although that's kind of hentai so...)

Engage Planet Kiss Dum 1-8

I was wondering when you'd get around to watching this show. It's certainly List material. Do you know if you're watching the original broadcast or the theoretically improved Kiss Dum R?

Soul Eater Not - Episode 2

That wasn't too bad. Well, other than the art, which is really quite awful for a BONES show. It doesn't really look as "cute" as it wants to be, and there isn't much visual flair in the animation or in the art direction. But other than that, I think this was an improvement over the first episode. There were some pretty funny bits like the tarot cards ("The House" roflmao) and the "witch". The maid cafe job felt like a fun minigame. Maybe they should make a simulation game for SE Not. Could be better than the anime!

The problem with dismissing shows out of hand is that you can end up making uninformed statements about them. Urusei Yatsura is a comedy first, jack of all trades second. While the relationship between Ataru and Lum is central to the construction of the show, it's not like much actually develops and characters are more like The Simpsons in that way. Ataru and Lum get touched on like Homer and Marge. Actual pervy content in UY is limited, although it does exist. Also, Maison Ikkoku is a seinen romance, not a shounen romance.

Supposedly the latter.

I got a real phone now so you guys can reach me all the time and send me pictures of cute things!

Will do AWESOMEBEAR.

Well well...

Look what came almost a week before it's actually supposed to be released.

HNNNNNNNNNNNNNGH. I placed order for it yesterday along with other goodies.

The Scrapped Princess comparisons are encouraging, I hope Chaika is as good as the 7th best anime of all time.

Interesting. I wouldnt put it that high but Scrapped Princess is pretty great.

Lists are dangerous, but I regret nothing! I still have all the Scrapped Princess figures on my shelf from the R2 LEs!

Me too! Though they have some dust. the figures are huge. Well Pacifica and Raquel.

Its your fault with not putting Angelic Layer in there, the actual best.

Angelic Layer is absolutely delightful. One of their best. Its the reason Im gonna watch GBF.

This is not directly related to this, but it's interesting to think about how length affects one's enjoyment of a show. I'm only a bit more than halfway through Maison Ikkoku, but I can say that while it could have been paced better, its length has actually given me more reason to care about its characters. I'm enjoying having it as a show I can watch a few episodes of after work for a longer time period. Were it 26 episodes, I'm not sure it'd be a memorable experience. On paper the slow movement of Maison Ikkoku would be a flaw, but with the way I'm watching it, it don't really feel that way.

Admittedly that "limited pervy content" is why I was hesitating with a reply earlier as everyone has different limits, but that pervy bit was what I wanted to rail against. It does have bare breasts at times and Ataru can be relentless in pursuing women, but he's not particularly successful much of the time so it's less that it's a perverted show and more that it STARS a perverted character, and if anything is basically the anti-harem anime/manga. Contrast with a newer show like, say, To Love Ru which seems to be UY reimagined while catastrophically missing the point, being a straight harem anime/manga and borderline porn.

Holy crap I'm gone for a few days and you guys are already in a new thread? >=[

Well it was stopped about 600 posts short.

I always read your posts especially<3

I agree with this. I like a lot of those shows, which people probably wouldnt initially expect given what Im often seen enjoying here, but I have been watching a LONG time and eventually youre bound to come across many of these, especially in an anime club setting. As these anime age though of course less and less people will have watched them by chance and so the list looks daunting. But growing up with anime you are veryl ikely to have seen at least half that list.

Gatchaman Crowds OVA/Real Ending
The new stuff is really nice and answers several questions. The scene where she absorbs Katze is interesting to say the least

Yeah it has a very old school fantasy feeling to it, which I love. I scratched that itch a bit with Lodoss, but this looks like it'll have good animated action. And now you're making me worried about what happens to her. Maybe she loses the eyebrows in a fire.

Honestly I've found the action in Chaika to be really poor for a BONES show and somewhat poor in general. Mainly because it seems that the animation can't keep up with the storyboarding. The camerawork is also super flat compared to other BONES shows.

There's also the MC having some random power that apparently does jack other than make him glow red.

Engaged to the Unidentified 12 END

Next: the two Engaged to the Unidentified OVA

I'm glad you enjoyed it, I don't think I'd want them to spend too much time
explaining what they are
, but it would still be a better way to use their time than Suetsugi and her friend. I actually kinda like them, but they came too late to have to much screen time, the first episode that focused on Suetsugi (was it episode 7?) is probably the only one I didn't like in the entire anime. Not that they couldn't have expanded the cast a bit, but I didn't like the way they did it. In the end it worked out though, so it's ok.

The first OVA is very short but sweet, not the best Mikakunin episode, but still a worthy follow up to such a lovely show, I'll try to watch the second one today!

Today I found the ultimate capsule machine here in Tokyo:

No, I didn't buy any

I thought I could handle anything, but this is too much.

Hahaha, this is so cute, it's basically me watching either stupid bullshit hype anime or cute girls anime.

One Week Friends 01

Oh dear god what a cute show. Fujimiya is a sweetheart. This reminds me of 50 first dates.
I cannot even imagine what that would be like but perhaps making some kind of memento to the friendship could work to prove that theres something even if she cant remember.

Some thoughts:

- Deciding that you won't like something without even giving it a proper shot isn't a useful way to experience content because you're ruling out the possibility that a work could surprise you or that you're wrong about what you like.

- Hitokage has already commented on Mason Ikkoku but yeah, Urusei Yatsura is a comedy as opposed to a romance.

- In a similar vein to my first point, and as I said in my extended post, War in the Pocket is fairly different to just about every other Gundam show in existence and so how you feel about regular Gundam shows doesn't really have much bearing on what you'll think about this one.

Mekaku City Actors ep 1

Too randomly symbolistic and monogatari for me not to mention I don't know what the fuck am I watching about.

Hitsugi no Chaika ep 2

Nice decent action going on although not much of a plot going on. Will continue to watch.

If you apply that to everything, you should be watching everything. Maybe you'll be surprised by Soul Eater Not! or Recently My Sister Is Unusual? Have you tried watching them? Obviously I'm being flippant, but you have to draw a line somewhere.

I'm sure both shows are good for what they are, but neither has sounded appealing to me ever - not just from here, but from years ago, even back when Maison Ikkoku was still "a thing" because Ranma was the main romcom recommendation floating around.

- Hitokage has already commented on Mason Ikkoku but yeah, Urusei Yatsura is a comedy as opposed to a romance.

Even worse! Anime comedies and I don't get on. At all.

This is the only one that would potentially convince me; it's purely the franchise that disinterests me rather than the story here.
