Ping Pong is pretty damn good looking anime, fantastic backgrounds as well.

Don't want to be a dick but compared to Haikyuu it's visuals aren't that damn good looking, it's artstyle is unique and does give a sense of artistic value but in a other sense it doesn't look that good and a bit cheap. But it's really on the viewers opinion though since it differs. I'm also not hating on Ping Pong so don't take it the wrong way.

I'm not really sure if I have the motivation to start the next episode considering how turned off I was by the art. Its like a nightmare come to life. I'm sure this art design was done on purpose but I can't, for the life of me, figure out why.
At the very least I'd recommend you give it a try. Like I said I also really didn't the art for episode one, but the eccentricity of it (for lack of a better word) seemed toned down for episode 2 for me and I enjoyed it more.

If you still don't like it, you're free to blame me for wasting a half hour of your time.

Engage Planet: Kiss Dum - Episodes 4-5

Episode 4 is useless for two reasons.

- It provides nothing new over Episodes 1-3
- You should watch Episodes 1-3 as it allows you to get the most out of this trainwreck.

Episode 5 was more of the same except most of the characters from before have disappeared (apart from the swimsuit girl, she's too random to die) and the CG is about to get even worse now that he's got a powerup. The mecha have pretty much gone as well, although that wasn't too big of a loss since they looked horrible (Also NES, Dolphin? Nintendo to join the aeronautic industry confirmed?).

Nothing says quality clusterfuck like
wiping out the whole crew
. This show knows how to do it.

As a major fan of the manga, oh boy was this a disappointment. Almost everything that could have gone wrong did. The CG is worse than I had feared, but that's not even the half of it. The music and visual styling are wrong as well. Something has been lost visually in the translation, and not just because of the ugly low framerate characters. In the manga, the whole world feels dark and for boding. Here, it's just another sterile space environment. The music doesn't do it any favors either. Generic, loud electronic soundtrack that's sure to undercut the darker, emotional story telling later. Overall, only thing going right for me about this adaptation is the voice cast. Everyone sounds about how I imagined them to, which is good.

Story wise, it was kind of a mess, but so were the initial few manga chapters so I can't be too hard on it. Overall, I'll continue watching out of love of the source material, but what a rough start.

Moment in the sphere between Misao and Sasami was the yuriest thing in the history of yuri. Well except Yami, but that goes without saying. I don't particularly care if they end up like that or not; I just hope Misao doesn't settle for Rumiya. The guy who's totally his sister's bitch and used her to cause all that havoc? Lol no, sorry buddy.

Liked at the end how Sasami's classmates were all "I KNEW IT!" And then they go to stop Ayeka on Mars,, but they just blew a heart-shaped hole through it instead.

Series gets my seal of approval.

The Ping Pong anime art is definitely rough, and some of that is due to the stylization of Matsumoto's manga art and the kind of stylization that Yuasa generally likes to do (see Kemonozume), but some of that is also due to a rushed schedule that is preventing the production from being as polished as it could be.

If you read the FS/N visual novel it's filled with lots of details about the magic, sex, and cooking, it's not like some VN where they don't explain things. I've read the prologue and it's filled with a bunch of information not even kidding.

now that i think about it, is porn books still a thing in japan or is it just a punchline for anime/tv? Such a backwater nation.

Yes, very much so. I walk past a store dedicated to the things every day. Either that, or it's an extremely brazen convenience store!

So guys what was the problem with the Fate Stay Night adaption since I haven't seen it yet.

As a whole the biggest issues stem from the source material and the writing of the show. They had to condense a lot of info it. It's basically a grim dark harem. The VN has all these different parts that as a whole are interesting. It took some liberties with the source material as well, some are understandable (ie give her your magic with your penis). It also focused on the Saber arc. While it focuses on best girl, it's basically the arc where the male lead is the most helpless so as a whole it's just another 'weak male saved by strong females but hey he has spirit so the girls fall for him' harem.

I'd say to just wait until this fall when the Ufotable one comes out. Chances are they'll pick and choose the best parts out of all the routes and make as decent of a show as FSN could ever be

You know how Sasami ended up being rather similar to Tsunami? Misao isn't that much different from Ramia.

Also, that whole evil magic thing is water under the bridge!

Glad you enjoyed it. Don't forget to look up the specials!

...and don't look to "Sasami: Magical Girls Club" to fill that new void. Mari Okada wrote it.

Ooh yeah I was wondering about that. I haven't experienced Okada yet, but her reputation around these parts seems...unflattering to say the least lol

First ep is somewhat polarizing around here due to the amount of info. Smooths out considerably though.

yeah it really rolls along once everything is laid out.

As far as first episodes go in anime it wasn't that bad. But there is a considerable amount of info to absorb. I can forgive that because like most stories, it's trying to set characters and story up. If this is what the show needs to get the viewer to understand what's going on for the duration of the show then I can't fault it. Could've done it better but I can't fault it.

It's easy to tell early on though that it's setting up a lot of this stuff to make it feel epic. From the ending of the first episode it certainly has a lot of potential and promise.

for everything the first episode had to establish I felt it did a wonderful job of it. There was a ton of exposition but I didnt feel like it was paced badly.

If this is glaucoma, I wish it made all anime look this good. :p Captures the spirit of the original art effortlessly while maintaining a style all its own. Colorful without being busy or frenetic, with good storyboarding and editing, it's visually sophisticated on a level that almost no other show this season can match.

All the direction in the world is not enough if the show is not visually appealing enough to attract viewers at first glance.

Because it's a pretty good match for the source manga's art.

Yeah, I think its looked great.. the anime even did some shading and just not leave it raw a la Yuasa like to do.

The K-On manga has really bad art too. No one put a gun to Yuasa's head and told him all his characters needed to looks like they were from Xenu and not Earth.

I've never had a problem with Yuasa shows until now. It just looks weird and unappealing to me. It could be the style or it could be the lack of polish.

I don't see how the K-On mangas bad art has anything to do with Taiyo Matsumoto's Ping Pong at all.

Hidamari Sketch 7

A reminder that these girls watch water drop into a bucket. Must be a master of watching boring things considering artists watch their pant dry (or use a fixative).

Hidas are pretty lucky though. At least their town is still intact.

There I will have to disagree with you, as I don't think Matsumoto's manga has bad art, and I find the character designs rather realistic, especially for anime/manga. It's a stylized realism to be sure, but looking at these characters I find it believable that they could be drawn from real Japanese (or Chinese) people.

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
I have to change my underwear every time I read "Taiyo Matsumoto".

You're honestly better off watching Black Rock Shooter TV, which is Okada but quality entertainment for it. Sasami: MGC is just dull, poorly conceived, poorly plotted, and unable to use or develop its characters effectively. Even though Washuu remains the best character in it, she can't save the show.
