One Piece HD huh? Well I'm glad I haven't bought any DVDs yet. I'll have to start collecting once FUNI puts out decent HD sets for this.

We don't really know how widespread it's going to be. I mean apparently this one is only airing in one region in Japan, so it might be unlikely that we'll even get a stream of it.

I'm sure there's going to be a One Piece "Kai" eventually, but that's probably a good ways (like a decade) off.

Wow. If the first episode is any indication, they're certainly going for a much darker and more violent tone for this season. The scene following the opening credits in particular establishes an atmosphere unlike any in the previous season. The harsh, unnatural and dim lighting, for example, helps create a sense of foreboding before
the jailbreak
even occurs. It also appears this season will be much more Birdy-centric, which I'm all for.

The animation is great, as always. In fact, I feel like the art direction is even stronger in this episode than the previous season. The use of lighting, and the coloring of the background art, feels much more confident and committed to evoking a specific tone for each scene. If I had one complaint about the art in the first season it would be that the background art sometimes felt perfunctory. There were certainly times it was used well, but often it was just a backdrop. The integration of background and character animation felt more complete in this episode.

The sudden song at the end was weird, though. It felt like the sound editing didn't fade it in properly.

after DBZ... do you really want more Toei 'HD remasters'?
They really did pull some BS but I respect DBZ enough to not care. I'm completely satisfied with my. Blue-Orange-Green season set collection. Blu-Ray does nothing for me anyway. I won't purchase any other set unless I win the lottery or something.

I am glad I learned, from buying the DB set, how FUNI does things so I didn't jump on their One Piece sets. The value is not there for the amount of episodes offered. So I guess I'll wait even longer for the HD releases of the first 270ish episodes.

@cosmicblizzard: I guess FUNI would be foolish to release 1-270 again so soon. But by the time Toei produces the episodes I think enough time will have passed anyway.

P.S.: Do we know the process of HDing Toei is using for One Piece HD?

Working s2 ep 9

Dull episode. Yamada is always so annoying, definitely one of the worst females in all anime.

Well this was just an awkwardly placed episode considering the
car accident with Shouma, who better not be dead or paralyzed or something
of episode eight, which I was dying to find out the resolution. Regardless the library stuff and Sanetoshi was pretty cool hope he actually shows up even more, third favorite after Kanba, Shouma. Ultimately plotwise, dont really understand what went down.

Nichijou 22

Really dull episode, however the best skit with Sakamoto and Professor was found in this, so much laughs, I couldnt stop. The one with the dogs.

Phantom Requiem for the Phantom 5/6

Actually had me hooked for both episodes, plot got so intense and showed how powerful and good Inferno is. Curious to see just how big they can get and how both phantoms will develop more.

Plotwise, it's already been done before but the cartoony style really lends itself well for the atmosphere its going for. The characters are fun and it's an enjoyable albeit simplistic watch. I would not at all mind seeing more of this if that "to be continued" is to be believed.

It's a real treat to see these back again.

I was so annoyed with that flashback episode's placement. It ruined a great sequence.

You're getting close to the point when the show actually becomes fun, though.

Kaiba 7

This episode integrated important plot revelations, a subplot about an old tragedy, and
the resolution to Vanille and "Chroniko"'s relationship
, all carried off with attractive and atmospheric visuals. So far, so good.

yeah, i remember being annoyed by the episode not resolving what happened to Shouma. Still, it piqued my interest about Sanetoshi and his motivations.

I love this skit! Nichijou! <3 Where's Ultimadrago when you need him?

literally the only reason to watch working
It's not even remotely close to episode
20
in those terms.
while it's not as good, i'd say this scene did an excellent job of setting the tone for what's to come
I'm not sure there's enough Ringo in that episode for this to be true.
well, very few episodes of any show will ever reach the greatness that was the ringo centric episodes of penguindrum

Zetman 01:

Doctors turning dirty poors away, home ownership an unattainable fantasy, bigoted rich people...does this take place in Japan or America?

Good establishing episode, looks like it's going to be a fun mix of shounen and superhero tropes. The character designs are pretty distinctive. Was this originally a manhwa?

Hopefully Jin learns a little bit about what

Me: Goddammit, DEEN. What the hell was that Fate/Stay Night anime?
DEEN: I'm sorry.
Me: Sorry's not good enough! What the hell do you think you're doing, saying you're sorry now?!
DEEN: ...
Me: What do you have to say for yourself? Don't just stand there!
DEEN: ....here.

Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works (OVA)

Me: o.o
Me: o_O
Me.: o_O
Me: ...I forgive you.

Okay, so if I were Studio DEEN, I would know at this point that my previous effort with condensing F/SN's story was pretty unsuccessful. But my series, despite it's many flaws, made a shitload of money for it's backers. Furthermore, I've been hearing rumors that the Fate/Zero anime will soon be funded and announced. This my last chance to regain my honor.

The solution: Who gives a fuck about story? I'm gonna animate a whole bunch of fight sequences, the best goddamn fight sequences I've ever animated! I'm going to slap a ton of 3D lighting and shading on every goddamn frame to create depth which was so obviously missing from the TV anime! I'm going make everyone spew gallons of blood from every tiny wound to make up for the relative lack of blood in the TV anime! There's going to be dismemberment, and decapitation, and mass-impalement, and fucking goddamned hearts getting ripped out of their chests! WHO GIVES A FUCK ABOUT A STORY?! NOBODY!!!!!!!!!!!! FUCK YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, the UBW OVA attempts to adapt the entire UBW route into a 105 minutes long movie. Fortunately, if you've at least watched the F/SN anime, you will have seen a vaguely incoherent version of the Fate route. The UBW route is pretty similar, a number of characters change places and do different things along the path to almost the same finale, and
the bastards soiled my pure and wonderful Ilya
, but the story is mostly the same. So it was possible to have literally nothing but huge-ass fights almost from beginning to end, barely pausing for breath between each fight.

The quality of animation is an order of magnitude improved over the TV show. All the fights have incredible levels of improvement in animation, and Saber's hidden sword finally gains the whirly effect around it that signifies there's actually something there which was so hilariously absent from the TV anime. The character designs are dramatically improved, especially Shirou's face which actually looks reasonable now instead of that nearly unviewable disaster from the TV anime. There is now extremely noticeable, often P.A. Works-style exaggerated, 3D lighting and shading on all character models and faces. It's almost impossible to believe that this OVA was made by the same studio that made the TV anime, except that the art design and character design are still fundamentally the same. Oh, and there are just copious amounts of blood effects now. It's so bloody as to be actually quite comical in some scenes, it's like Mortal Kombat 3 levels of ludicrously and hilariously bloody.

Well, I didn't think it would be possible for me to ever compliment the animation in a Studio DEEN work, but here I can honestly say this was actually really good. I'm only vaguely aware that there was a story of some kind in between the fights and loud explosions and blood gushing everywhere, but it's okay. I vastly prefer this abbreviated version of the story, by which I mean no story at all, over the aimless meandering of the F/SN anime's story. Besides, any ending where
Shirou tells Rin to take good care of himself
is an ending I'm okay with. Because as we all know, the correct order of F/SN's harem is Ilya > Rin > Saber. I'm not including Sakura since for the purposes of both the TV anime and OVA, she basically doesn't exist.
Mai Wonderful Yandere Imouto Ilya is dead at the end of this OVA, and Saber disappears, so Rin wins.
I approve of such an ending.

Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works
"Story? What's that? Are we killing things yet? Why not?"
Final Rating: 8.5 Ilyas Sabers Rins out of 10

No, it's a manga inspired by American superhero comics. The mangaka did the character designs for Tiger and Bunny.

I realize you're being fanboyish here and all but this is false.

For one thing, is the Deen you're talking about this particular staff? If so, then maybe yes. If you're talking about Deen the company, they also did Rurouni Kenshin (TV and OVA) and those had better fights than anything in Shit Stay Night.

Dunno if this was already posted but Funimation finally put out two 8-minute clips of the Tales of Vesperia The First Strike's English dub.

The cast for the characters from the game:
Yuri: Troy Baker
Flynn: Sam Riegel
Rita: Luci Christian (Michelle Ruff not reprising)
Estelle: Cherami Leigh (Danielle Judovits not reprising)
Raven: Dunno
