I once was interested in watching The First Strike but then some kind soul told me that there's no Judith so I said eff that.

I've been really enjoying Fate Zero thus far. I think the story in that, design and animation is a definite leg up over Fate/Stay Night. Especially the meeting of kings part - I really loved how
Saber was put in her place
in that scene. Looking forward to that picking up again.

I just hope they don't pull a Gundam 00 for the 2nd season.

Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works
"Story? What's that? Are we killing things yet? Why not?"
Final Rating: 8.5 Ilyas Sabers Rins out of 10

Yep, DEEN did this much more justice. and the animation and CG were pretty astounding, for DEEN. Then again, it's just a movie but still, impressed over the line.

It relies too heavily on past works, plot is pretty hard to get if you didn't watch/read F/SN, blah blah, who cares. We're all watching it those delicious Rin moments and GARcher anyway.

haha I watched Unlimited Blade Works a while back because someone told me that it was based off some harem Eroge.

Was disappointed greatly.

Loved the crazy nonsense fights though.

Way too much exposition and other nonsense.

Best episode of F/Z, bar none.

hmm, I should watch Gundam 00. I liked Gundam Seed and hated Destiny. Will I like Gundam 00?

UBW makes no sense whatsoever.

I saw it a few years after I had seen FSN and I had no clue what the fuck was going on. This is after I had researched FSN stuff pretty thoroughly. I can only imagine what a casual watcher would think.

It's ok. Pretty much nothing but Yuri and Flynn bromance going on, with fighting some tentacle monster or something. The other characters are literally like cameos. Not like Flynn is going to start Divine Streak-ing everything in the movie, so it can't be amazing.

Finally working my way through the second half of 00. First half was pretty cool; second half is descending into stupid.

Sounds lame, needs more Judith and Yuri wanting to fuck each other's brains out.

For one thing, is the Deen you're talking about this particular staff? If so, then maybe yes. If you're talking about Deen the company, they also did Rurouni Kenshin (TV and OVA) and those had better fights than anything in Shit Stay Night.

I can't help you there, I've had Rurouni Kenshin on my distant backlog forever. So I've never seen this DEEN of which you speak. The fights in UBW are still not as good as the ones in F/Z, though to be fair there haven't really been many fights in F/Z yet to really compare.

The Light of El Cantare
Symphogurrrrrrrr 13 (END):

As expected, they didn't have the balls to actually kill Hibiki off. Thanks, show, for preventing me from getting attached to any of the characters and then making it all for nothing.

lol @
the climactic BLOW UP THE MOON! moment being a two-second series of stills after all of that intricate buildup with those huge-ass weapons.
That's not how end-episode budgets are supposed to work.

The Noise still exist even after Fine died? I know they're born from human hatred blah blah etc etc but I can't believe that they wouldn't at least give us that.
BUY THE MANGA! end.

Final score: 3/10 bunk bed cuddle sessions.

No, it's a manga inspired by American superhero comics. The mangaka did the character designs for Tiger and Bunny.

Ah, I see. I'm quite partial to the designs in Tiger and Bunny, so this makes me all the more interested in Zetman.

I should really do this kind of basic research myself

I realize you're being fanboyish here and all but this is false.

speaking of RK... that show does not hold up at all visually. Pretty much the only awesome moment visually is mummy vs kenshin final clash.

The OVA's hold up much better naturally.

There is a major difference between Zetman and many American superhero comics, though... Zetman's pretty seriously grimdark.

2chan? Meeemes? Who said this show ain't panderin'?
Nonetheless, got a chuckle out of it.

"Red" needs more
nicknames!
I demand it!

The sensitivity of the subject matter is now being focused again in force, which it good. Now, for the sense of urgency to erupt...

P.S. Saw Feyris' wish coming from a few miles away

I once was interested in watching The First Strike but then some kind soul told me that there's no Judith so I said eff that.

I heard the same before watching, an understandable decision. It's nothing great anyways.

But alas, I watched in the end because my second favorite not arriving couldn't override the [brief] presence of my first favorite, ChrisRiiiiiiiita!

Zetman 01:

Doctors turning dirty poors away, home ownership an unattainable fantasy, bigoted rich people...does this take place in Japan or America?

Good establishing episode, looks like it's going to be a fun mix of shounen and superhero tropes. The character designs are pretty distinctive. Was this originally a manhwa?

Hopefully Jin learns a little bit about what
spit
can and can't do before the
time skip
.

It's a seinen and Japan is like that too.

It has to actually have a story to make sense, you know. I didn't actually care what the fuck was going on after the first 5 minutes when I realized the fighting was going to be awesome. Plus I knew going in there was going to be plenty of Rin, and there definitely was!

This episode integrated important plot revelations, a subplot about an old tragedy, and
the resolution to Vanille and "Chroniko"'s relationship
, all carried off with attractive and atmospheric visuals. So far, so good.

Don't worry, I feel that many complaints stem from the finale.

Also the "fights" in UBW weren't even animated that great. It has alot of the modern Deen "charm" which is to say unproportioned characters and shitty art.

That show isn't even worth it on any level!

Phi Brain S1 end

Well everything worked out perfectly there. Kind of contrived, but ah well, that's par for the course with series like these. Still didn't like the puzzle as much as either of Gyamon's, but not a bad one to go out on.

This show was all over the place. Sometimes it was really good while others it didn't seem to know what to focus on. I think it was kind of falsely advertised since we were lead to believe it would be about solving puzzles in a mind-game kind of way, but a lot of them were solved off-screen or so quickly that any audience input was clearly impossible. Yes, there were puzzles where we actually saw and had enough time to grasp the solution like the car puzzle, but they were the minority.

Instead, the focus seemed to be the characters, which honestly, weren't that compelling at the beginning. It wasn't until
Gyamon's betrayal
that I actually started to care. At that point, it seemed like everything took a major leap in quality including the puzzles. The tone got significantly darker even if the content never really ventured quite that far from the status quo (IE,
no one died even if they got close.)
I would say that is the point when the show became worth watching, but I have no idea if that means I would recommend people go through the rather unremarkable opening arcs to get there. If season 2 is good, then maybe.

Speaking of which, I'm excited for it. Hope it doesn't have another average intro, but I fear that may be inevitable.

I'm sure you're just exaggerating or something.

By the way, if you want a DEEN anime that actually has some form of decent animation, go watch the Read or Die OVA.

The series feels or at least seems a bit too, er, mature, if that makes sense for me for action type stuff. Art wise and content wise. Regardless, apart from starting really slow and feeling like it was going nowhere, once
the death happened and then Ms. Akemi being involved
I felt connected to it and actually in suspense. Will hold on to see where it goes.

Smokestack scene made me queasy due to the height. I get the feeling the show itself is going to really test my suspension of disbelief what with how Shu knocked down the smokestack and an apparent homage to Empire Strikes Back that never set well with me in that film either.

Surprisingly less stupid that I was expecting even if the protagonist is a complete twat. I think the setting is intriguing and it's the ultimate on gamer nerd-revenge fantasies (even with a sexually provocative ojousama and a totally dere dere childhood friend!), so I'm in.

Naruto SD Rock Lee and His Ninja Pals ep 1
tumblr_m1xcqpVE0c1rrhq9io3_250.gif

Well as a Naruto fan, I found it entertaining at least. I really cant imagine it having much appeal to people who arent really hardcore fans already or just kids, as I think there are other anime in this genre that do the comedy skits better. Really the only benefit here is characters that are forgotten in the manga penned by Kishimoto to have tons of speaking roles (ie TenTen apparently talks so much). A few minor things did make me chuckle (lots of stuff in the second half), and it was nice seeing Naruto, though did we really need an introduction of who Naruto Uzumaki is?!
even in this spinoff, Naruto still wins in "battles" which I did like, hate to see him lose

Rewatching some old Gintama.

It's so weird watching other shounen stuff after watching a lot of OP. Shit actually gets resolved ever so often!

Has Dresden watched this? Just a thought that occurred to me for no reason at all.

I really like the way they've integrated the events of the previous season into this one. The apocalyptic battle(of no lasting repercussions) is such a common trope that it's refreshing to see a story seriously deal with the fallout of what would necessarily be an event with long-lasting and far-reaching consequences.

The way this show uses animation can be really great at times. And I'm not just talking about the action scenes; it's also used effectively to characterize, utilizing the visual nature of the medium. For instance, this short cut speaks volumes about Nataru and his relationship to the character he's about to meet:

imjpvP1OQJex6.gif

There's nothing inherently interesting about someone walking up the stairs; it happens in thousands of shows. It's the way it's used here that makes it more than just a boring transitional shot. A lesser director/writer would do something clunky like have a character standing to the side of the action and say "he's so easygoing!" *cough*

Of course, there's still great action animation:

iFV7VfdChBUJ1.gif

This episode even has some freaking background animation, just because. You know they did it just to show off, because the series has used plenty of CGI prior to this:

Yeah this episode was awful. Really awful. Basically completely reaffirms my disliking of Usagi. She is flat out terrible, easily the worst of the Senshi. She even manages to be a jerk in this episode too by highlighting how bad of a friend she is. And is of course utterly useless on her own, her incompetence highlighted by the ending of the episode, where
Mars and Venus have to clean up her mess.

Anyway glad the last few minutes of this episode ends this one woman snoozefest that was most of the first two episodes. The ending was great too because even everybody within the show knows how useless Usagi really is.

The central villains of this arc have been completely uninteresting as well. But I’m glad the gang is back in town (well kind of) and business can finally begin to pick up.

Porky should play some The World Ends with You. It also features an anti-social dipshit who is stuck into a survival game and learns to open himself to the power of ponies and stuff.

It's like the ultimate QTE in a Squeenix game without the button prompts. Me likey!
Ash Roller should have easily parried that headbutt
