It could be a double entendre!

Is that so? Show saved!

Yeah, check out this sweet M-14:

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
I want everything in that store.

No lie, if I could go to Akiba I would drop hundreds on that store alone. I'd break out that New Year's money.

I gotta admit if I was in Akihabara I would probably blow half a thousand in a day and not even realize it :/

It seems like a place designed to separate you from your money as efficiently as any casino.

There was a whole lot of :firehawk in that last bit. Good end to one of the better shows this season. I'm pretty pleased that my hype from when the show was announced paid off.

Hey! Mr. Maruyama, that even created an 'spécialité' of a meal he named after the studio, organizes what seems to be good and filling lunches (with a recent example here http://lockerz.com/s/184620758) for his comrades, sharing their food and discussions around a table as between all of them will appear friendly bonds made to last.

I think it would be cool if they published a official website to keep better track on things like this.
Wow...I didn't think they'd be that well fed! Haha. It's hard to imagine that all the goodwill crafted at those tables won't make it into the final project. Stop hyping, XX! I'm already at critical levels.

Chihayafuru fin:

So, they didn't end the series the way I thought I would and instead went with the
full circle ending
, which in hindsight, actually makes the show much more complete than it has any right being. When you consider that there's probably no chance the show will come back, I think they did the right thing there.

(Although, considering what Gintama did with their final episode, I almost wanted a similar troll)

They also ran through the all of the big songs from the soundtrack in this episode, as if to remind you that half the reason the show is any good is because of that fabulous music.

I'll also miss Arata's sexy accent. I suppose it's like the American southern accent on television here - no one wants to acknowledge its existence, so everyone speaks with as neutral an accent (read - East Coast) as possible to make their shows "watchable" for everyone. Normative accents is almost weirder than normative whiteness!

Also, funny enough, Desk-kun makes a move right up the middle. Maybe he's the secret winner in this "love" triangle. :p

Chihayafuru Finale

That was a lot more satisfying then it should have been, considering the direction the show went. Overall, the show had a very strong, character focused opening and then went in a direction that I wasn't expecting from the start (extreme focus on karuta as a sport).

The characters was the main thing that kept me interested in the show. (there aren't enough Chihaya's in the anime world).

If the manga extends any further then I will probably do a Usagi Drop and check it out. That also left me wanting moarrr asap.

There are like 8 more volumes. :p

I'm not sure if I'll like Upotte or not. Are the characters just normal people carrying around guns? If so, meh.

It's kind of confusing, but the girls are the guns. They do hold guns in order to shoot, though -- they don't turn into gungirls or something, they are guns that look like girls that hold guns to fight... (they don't have to carry the guns around though -- they can pretty much summon or unsummon them at will I believe. I guess the idea is that they are guns, so they don't need to carry themselves around. Yeah, don't think about it. :p) And they really aren't human -- getting hurt doesn't hurt them like it would a human, they don't get human illnesses, etc.

Yeah, it's weird. It's amusing, though.

There are some other odd things about the show too, such as that (and this isn't really a spoiler, but I'll spoiler it anyway)
the girls aren't in grades based on age, or what they've graduated through, but based on gun class -- so handguns are in elementary school, submachine guns/assault rifles in jr. high, and fully automatic guns/battle rifles in high school. It makes me wonder how, or if, they can actually graduate, so I don't really get it at all, but that's how it's set up. You can see examples of this in the character art posted earlier on this page-- notice how they're in uniforms fitting their classification.

(Oh, the series has a harem element, of course -- there's a male teacher new to the school who's the perspective character.)

Unless the girls shoot bullets I'm going to keep thinking they're just girls named after guns.

See the above.

Damn anime threads move fast on GAF. It's kinda hard to keep up at times. Meanwhile, looking through the OP has been the best thing I've done in a while. There's a lot of stuff there to try in my mind.

Sakamichi no Apollon
KoikeLupin
Tsuritama
SPACE BROS
Jormungand
Medaka Box
Accel World (Kinda curious but don't know about following through yet)
Sankarea
Yurumates
Tasogare Otome X Amnesia
Mysterious Girlfriend X

At this point, I'm just looking for something to hold the attention span for something more than the meta laughs I get reading discussions on them here. Also, shoutouts to Korra getting a mention in this thread. Gonna watch the hell out of that.

That actually sounds kind of fun. I will check it out.

Daily Boys of High School Lives end

Whelp, there goes another hilarious gag comedy. With both Gintama and Gintama: High School version over, it might be time for me to add a few new gag series to the backlog.

Chiahayafuru - END

My anime's all gone. ;_;

Surprisingly complete yet open end, to an enjoyable series, it's certainly ended in a lot more fulfilling manner than I'd ever hoped it to.

Man Toriko got his shit pushed in. Clearly under leveled for Gourmet World, he needs to go grind ingredients back in the Human World.

Wrong coast. For future reference, west is where the generic media-friendy accent comes from, while east is the one with all the weird accents - NY, Boston, Baltimore, deep South, etc.

I assume this probably started as a trend because LA was & is the center of American media production, and after a while everyone just got used to hearing it all the time.

I really wonder what the equivalent of a Cajun accent in Japan would sound like?

It's more of the same. :(

Normally I'd just say "Shoujo's gonna shoujo", but this is a Josei.... which is probably the same thing but I havn't read enough Josei's to make the general sweeping comment. :|

I expected him to at least touch the ground before he reached his limit.

Is it still on-going?

No conclusive ending? =(
Yeah, it'll go for as long as she can milk it I presume.

Fixed for truth and justice.
Yes, more karuta forever! :p

No, it's sports being sports. :p
Like I said before, she knew what she was doing when she tricked people into thinking it was a romantic comedy and not a sports book.

Imagine if Friday Night Lights was 13 episodes of high school football games over and over again. Zzzzz.

I dunno, no one does the valley girl accent unless it's a parody or they are making an anime. People seem to speak whatever the equivalent of "Queen's English" is in NYC... that neutral Brian Williams-esque accent. But yeah, the East does have all the weird accents too.

Daily Lives of yadayadayadaboys:

You know, I guess I liked the
troll :firehawk
ending and the fact that the episode played in
reverse
order.

The nod to
K-On
again was cute too.

But I think the meta-in joke for me was the middle Ringo section, which I want to believe was a parody of the crappy Tokyo arc in HanaIro. :p

Watch Excel Saga yet? While it's not new, Excel Saga should briefly help fill the void.
