If we're taking votes on it, I vote no. Its not really an arbitrary line at all considering that Anime as it is accepted in English refers to Japanese animation broadcast in Japan.

Going offtopic that massively will only hasten us getting moved to community.

Yeah, I'm going to go ahead and remove it from the OP.

Nonoriri

If your name is Nonoriri you have to go buy Nanami's tampons.
Shinya Ohira presents God of Ninja Gaidenruto 3:

The closeup of the guy in the chair at the end was super cool.

I'm trying to think of examples of things that could legitimately be labeled fanservice in Western cartoons now. Surely there has to be some instance of it.
Korra has moderately sized tits. Not Aunt Tits level melons or pettanko tier boobs.

Does that count?

You expect those things from shounen anime? (action, sure)

To a certain extent, yeah. I don't watch shounen only because of the fights; you know the main character is going to be on the brink of failure and then pull out a victory.

And to be fair, this should be written in the past tense. The last shounen I saw was the amazing YuYu Hakusho a year ago. Shounen was my entry genre into anime (twice), not my genre of choice.

It's cool, if/when we move to community we'll be free to talk Korra cause communities are freeform like that.

The character designs in Avatar always looked really bland to me. It's fine to attempt an "anime" style, but why does it have to be such a generic and soulless one?

Disappointing. I was hoping to uguu over tsundere kawaii avatar nekos with you lot.

You're fucked up dude.

He has a point, although to be fair, the charcaters were designed for ease of animation so they couldn't really add lots of frills and stuff. And kids cartoons tend to be bland anyway.
Don't you guys already have IRC for that?
There's a giant void where you would be :(

Toradora! 19-25 (FINAL)

What a delightful ending. These feels that I had no idea it would evoke from me suddenly awakened.

Yeah that pretty much sums it up succinctly enough.

I don't think Minori was really bipolar, it seems like her whole deal was that she ignores problems she feels she can't deal with even at the expense of others. Consider that she liked Ryuuji from the very start and didn't make a move because of Taiga, and yet when (in)directly prompted from Ryuuji's advance twice, she gave a wishy washy non-committal reply each time (the second being worse of course because of the circumstances) and furthermore tried to pretend nothing ever happened which of course made things worse. It wasn't until the chocolate scene when she figured out what was actually going on when she said 'to hell with it' and took direct action to finally resolve the situation with no more games, including confessing that she liked Ryuuji all along and explaining why she did what she did. That was the climax of her character arc.

Geez, writing all that just makes Ano Natsu seem very plain and by-the-numbers by comparison. Not saying that's a bad thing, just that for some of the minor problems I had with the show, Toradora is surprisingly smartly written thinking about it.

The designs for S1 were completely forgettable, but the Korra characters looks notoriously better.

The Light of El Cantare
edit: we're done with Korra talk? This is my last statement on the matter, promise.

Hmm...I'm inclined to say that this doesn't count. She's undoubtedly going to set Deviantart ablaze, but that would probably happen regardless of her...erm...personal attributes.

That's fanart. Not very good fanart, too.

My presumptions about the quality of Amerime art laid bare for all to see.

It was the best-looking thing in a sea of shit fanart on google image search and looked like a promotional image but I dun goofed, apparently.

That doesn't even look like the same character.

Well, simple designs don't have to be generic. Just look at shows like Usagi Drop, Dennou Coil, Birdy Decode, Ano Natsu, etc.

I think it partly comes from adopting that anime kind of look while failing to develop a unique art style.

The way the characters are drawn, I feel, is a marketing ploy more than anything else. So yes, it is bland, but it works, because children have no taste.

You're probably right. When I've watched Avatar, it's obvious that they've spent a lot of money animating it, but it also feels very over-produced in how rigid its style is.
