This show is awesome and Kana asumi does a fantastic job in voicing a genki zany character which I never heard her done before. I lol at "We are aliens!"

Well that concept of not having a woman fight your battles is still relatively engrained into society. Not to mention we don't know how exactly he would have handled a male servant. His personality seems to be that of the type of hating that anyone, regardless of sex, would suffer in his place instead.

Good thing it wasn't a male servant. I wouldn't have read a yaoi VN :p

Joking aside, yes, not having a woman fights your battles is an ideal relatively dominant in the mainly patriarchal society we have today. Shirou's 'chivalry' takes it to a whole another level though.

I'd agree that if he had a male servant, he would still not want the Servant to suffer a lot. Heavy F/SN spoilers:
His borrowed ideals to become a hero would obviously prevent him from letting others suffer in his place. In another timeline, Heroic Spirit Emiya did become a Counter Guardian to try and save the lives of others.
Cajun avatar change is adorable! :3

I know, it's so [REDACTED]!

I like yours better

I personally liked RurouniZel's previous Project Mirai avatar with Miku and Rin. <3

Sakura Miku is my personal favorite, though.

I'm really enjoying this show. It never skips a beat and always keeps my attention and interest. A lot of credit has to go to the excellent voice acting and soundtrack.

There is no Tsukihime anime! No such thing exists! *sobs* :(

At least it had an awesome opening theme. :D

Edit: Cajunator's commanding lead of the post count is insane. What's the record for most posts in a single animeGAF thread?

Oh yeah, and Rurouni's and cajun's new avatars are crazy cute :3

Cajun changed avatars? End of an Era!

duckroll is a wise prophet. He knew the greatness of Aikawa-flavoured FMA in 2003. He told me of Sword of the Stranger when it was but Mukoh Hadan. He spoke in wonder of Gurren Lagann (alright, so I didn't like TTGL myself, but I know why it's a great show that just wasn't my kind of thing).

Repent, heathens, and embrace the hype machine. You know Kids on the Slope will save us all.

A true prophet indeed, clearly he hyped some shows to see who was not worthy!

It's not anime, but not really sentai either. It's a parody of sentai with a typical aging otaku, a tsundere who's a secret otaku, and cajun's waifu-nyan. They transform with a loli figurine. This mock-sentai harem is hilarious. The main villainess wears a nazi outfit too.

DID I MENTION OP BY MOMOI HARUKO?

Just finished watching the first episode of the Eiyuu Densetsu: Sora no Kiseki OVA. Can't play the game, so I decided to check this out instead. While there isn't much of a story here (I mean it's a JRPG story told in two 40 minute episodes) and the character designs are overly simplistic, the battle animation sequences were pretty stunning. It really fits right into the sakuga discussion earlier in the thread, because these scenes could definitely be considered sakuga.
I glimpsed through the staff working on it, and it looks like the one to blame (I'm looking at the guy responsible for the key animation) is Tokuyuki Matsutake, he did a lot of good stuff, animation-wise, like the key animation in Towa no Quon episodes 1 and 6 (the fight scenes I guess), X The Movie, Sword of the Stranger, Karas and so on.
Anyway, if you skipped this OVA due to it looking generic as fuck, you might want to check it out, at least the first episode, there's like 7-10 minutes of high quality battle animation near the end.
I'll check the second episode soon to see, if there's some more good stuff there.

Kuroko's Basketball - 01

This is much better than what I expected. Thought it would be something akin to Knight in the Area, but the animation/art is actually competent, and the premise was a lot more interesting than the typical "Blahblah I suck at first but my power levels are going to increase through tons of hard work!".

Only thing that bothers me is that Kuroko is considered a "shadow", why is there such a lack of respect/attention for point guards? They're trying to sell the geez, I just can't notice this guy! part too hard.

It's a sports anime, I haven't expected realism from a long time.

I agree in that they're trying to sell the invisible/shadow ability too much. Not to mention totally unrealistic.

Looks like Nae from Steins;Gate is all grown up in Robotics;Notes.

I hope this means we can see more cameo appeareances from Steins;Gate.

Nice. Hoping for a Kurisu cameo appearance.

That's pretty cool. It'd be great if they announced a western release, though. :(

True. I'm okay with it as long as it doesn't become Prince of Tennis..

So is Nae the main character in R;N or just a cameo?

Cameo, I think. She's not part of the main cast from what i'm seeing.

Accel World's main protagonist reminds me of Shaman King's Manta. It's not him that disturbs me, it's that everyone apparently have shiny cheeks.

What show is this?
As Ryuukan and PdotMichael just said, it is Hikounin Sentai Akibaranger. I just wanted to point out, as a reminder, that if you are interested in the genre you can visit the 'HENSHIN!! Official Tokusatsu Thread' (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=366462) of this forum for more impressions on this and other series, and good recommendations... really cool thread!

And also related; another parody (but more 'drama' oriented) show, sleeper hit and GAiNAX most ambitious recent production, EA's Rock (http://ch.nicovideo.jp/channel/easrock), was first aired today... lets see if there is enough interest around here.

Gotta say, Accel World was a pretty fun watch.

Some cool AR/VR visualizations going on in there as well - although instead of using glasses they're using neural linkers... they should've gone with glasses if only to synergize with the Google glasses announcement :p (not that they could've realistically known about that announcement while making the anime).

No matter how cute Peace can be, Akane is still the best girl

Didn't I already watch this episode in HeartCatch? And a whole lot of other shows? Yes I did, but Akane makes up it.

Anyway, the fight itself was marred by this awful CG fire effect.

Fortunately, it also had an awesome attack from Akane, which almost makes up for it.

Next Episode,
the precure all get shrunk! seems like it will be a lot of fun.

Dennou Coil has already done glasses though, and it's an infinitely better show than Accel World.

The difference actually widens the gap between a talented director of photography and a weak one who only understands how to operate the software without having a high level of creative input.

While there are many shows which are still traditionally produced (background layer, animation cel layers, standard zoom and pans, etc), the increasing amount of 3D backgrounds and CG animation work being integrated into anime is what challenges the role here.

Where Fate/Zero excels most is in how sharp the camera feels at all times. It doesn't behave like a traditional animated production, but rather more like a live action production in many cases. There is a lot of focus on the lighting in scenes, there is focus, depth of field, and dynamic pans and tracking scenes whenever needed.

With a virtual camera as the composite tool, the role of a director of photography in anime is now closer than ever to that of the same role in film - ie: a true cinematographer.
From my blissful ignorance I wonder; even then wouldn't it still be a role very dependent on previously established guidelines compared to their live-action counterpart? I mean, all the material has to be created beforehand, be it a composite with bi-dimensional elements or pure CGI three-dimensional environment to work with, so much of the scenes have to be devised on early stages for the director of photography to have enough material to finalize its work on. For it, having this person in question to contribute efficiently and early on its input and actively with the rest of the staff to avoid having to rework on specific parts, to achieve an intended result.

That leaves a necessary previous (and more obvious) consensus from said staff (directors, story-boarders, animation directors, etc.) on how the scene has to be tackled from the beginning, in a much more evident way than a equal live-action professional for a similar work (with real actors) would do. Seems like more restricted in general, with less freedom and inspiration. I think that what raito-kun says could hint more to a blurring of the lines between those specific staff positions because of the previous background the mentioned people have, that helps them to do it in that way.

Developers get paid more than animators.
Exactly, that is a key matter to attract people for those two industries, taking into account the difference in opportunities from both on recent years. Leaving aside posts like programmer or software engineer, there is an evident overlapping of positions between the two industries that talented individuals, even before basic formation as apprentices, can attain; environment artists, concept design artists, VFX artists, 3D animators and other tasks where traditional skills can be useful or actually encouraged.

InfiniteNine

Rolling Girl
That would be a mistake. I think F/Z is the only show that ever actually lived up to ducky's hype in all the time I've been here.

Why is everyone giving duckroll the credit when I was the one arguing with him at length that it was going to be good and he pretty much put up the equivalent of "lol typemoon" months before it actually aired?

I demand reparations!

So what if Dennou Coil has already done glasses? :p that tech path is actually realistic... it's like saying another show has already done ... smartphones.

Ok, not the best example, but you know what I mean!

I'm not expecting the height of anime greatness out of Accel World. But it reminds me of the clamp show with the fighting dolls.

Yeah, Duckroll wasn't on the hype train at first, but he is now, maybe this means the second season will be bad.

Tomodachi wa Mahou
Mai Ritoru Poni: Yuujou wa Mahou 9

This is it. This is the turning point, the episode where I embrace who I really am, a 23 year old male who absolutely loves a show made for 12 year old girls.. This was the best episode of the series that I’ve seen to date and was absolutely overall.

The episode provides the true introduction to the great Applebloom, who is Applejack’s little sister. The relationship between the two is a gosh darn hoot and Applebloom herself is just so adorable. Hopefully she’s a recurring character and in a big way.

The focus of the episode is all about discrimination. Zecora, a Zebra as you might be able to guess from the name is an outsider both because of her species and because of where she lives, in the naughty Everfree Forest. She is evidently so evil, you have to be super evil if Pinkie Pie comes up with a song for you.

Twilight being the cool, calm and collected amazing pony that she is realizes that it's silly to rush to judgment and tries to talk some sense into every pony but it was to no avail as the other ponies eventually swindle her into their side.

Hijinks ensue thanks to Applebloom being the brave little pony she is, including some more great
Flutterguy
and Moe Moe Applejack moments but in the end all's well that ends well! It's a shame for Fluttershy that was only a temporary change :(

Zecora was pretty neat too. Don't judge the cover of a book without taking a second look! Her rhyming skills are pretty damn ill. In this episode she is skilled with the voodoo but all the other ponies treat her like doodoo. And just when she thought everything was turning darkle, the day was saved by the great Twilight Sparkle.

For me this show provides the perfect balance of changing things up enough while keeping the core formula the same every week.

Mai Ritoru Poni: Yuujou wa Mahou 10

Yeah after everything great that was 9 there was everything that is wrong with 10 with the focal characters of the episode being Fluttershy and Princess Celestia, the two characters who I cannot stand at all. Bummer.

Fluttershy being the incompetent pony she gets almost all her friends and all of Ponyville destroyed. The Princess is suspicious as hell. Twilight Sparkle loses her mind at how dumb and stupid her friends are. Pinkie Pie shenangians are so random and zany but fun.

The ending of the episode was interesting.
Celestia tells Twilight about an "infestation problem" in FILLY-DELPHIA. Twilight remains mum on the subject even though she might have an inkling of whats going on.

So either she's too embarrassed to talk about how shit hit the fan, the solution to said problem or she really doesn't like Princess Celestia at all and wants her to suffer. I like Option 3!

Steins;Gate 24 END

Finished it last night but was too tired to post.

Anyway I really, really enjoyed it. Highlight of the show was
Okabe decking Moeka in the face, terrible I know.
Though it was necessary
I felt bad that he had to undo everyone's D-mails (especially Ruka's). I'm probably one of the few but I wanted Okabe to kiss him/her sooo bad near the end of their dating episode.

Ultimately though I'm glad everything worked out in the end.
I'm usually not a fan of Sci-Fi anime but I'm so glad I decided to give this one a shot.
