This episode was more interesting and enjoyable than the first, but I fear that the cast is simply too large and the scope too big. Koko stands out as a good focus for the show, and she carries things well enough, but there are just too many characters on the periphery that play small and meaningless parts. Still, this episode sparked my interest in the series enough for me to want to stick with it for the time being, if only for the promise of more yuri knife fights.

Well, at least everything here stays in perspective.
I don't quite get how Utena manages to be so nonplussed by the duels given that she keeps drawing a sword out of Anthy's chest. I appreciated getting some more insight into Utena's feelings on the past, and Juri's flashbacks were handled with the show's usual deft touch.
I'm never going to like that staircase animation, but the fight was pretty awesomely animated. I guess you have to make sacrifices somewhere.

Without getting into spoiler territory, that's kind of the point.
It's enough of a pattern that I expect it to come back around in an interesting way.
Moribito suffers from the fact that no-one in the West is familiar with the novel series and some misleading marketing. I suspect that, in a country where the novels are relatively successful, most people watching the TV show would know it's more of a fantasy anthropology series dedicated to the world and its customs.
Production IG, on the other hand, produced a trailer showing off the action sequences from the first few episodes. Plus with Kamiyama coming off Stand Alone Complex at the time, I think many people expected there to be much more action than there was.
Moribito has its charms, but it's definitely not what you'd expect it to be.
Just make it a radio drama and it can be shopped around the networks.

It really was one of the best selling LNs of the industry. The fact that it died such a spectacular death is short of amazing. It would be like CBS killing all the CSIs out of spite.

Also, newest episode of ANNCast reminded me of that "feminism in anime" episode they did and the horrors associated with it. Not that I don't think Upotte is a show for men who want to "masturbate into a towel" or whatever, but it's hard to take a discussion of feminism seriously when that's the baseline that you're working with.

This will probably be an unusual opinion but I actually liked this episode a lot more than the last two. The comedy hit better and the pacing here seemed on point and with purpose. I liked the judo arc when I read that part of the manga though so maybe it's just something that translates well. I think the music might be hurting this show a lot. It's painfully boring in a way that makes it seem non-existent. Lots of scenes should be better than they are but the music isn't there to carry the emotion in the relatively bland environments.

the MC, Haru, pisses me off to no end. I wouldn't recommend Accel World in good conscience but if you're set on it... I guess AW could get better but I doubt it. Not to mention the whole toilet thing, lol.

Lupin the Third - The Woman Called Fujiko Mine 03
Not exactly a stellar episode. While thoroughly enjoyable it isn't to the standard of what I've come to expect from this series, particularly after the last episode. With the antagonist so far removed from the story any looming threat felt removed from the equation. With him out of the way the intensity of the show felt markedly diminished. The kids were kind of annoying, and the art with them felt a little mismatched among everything else in the episode, though I suppose they weren't as jarring as the CG train.
There were still some interesting interactions here fortunately. Fujiko's masked identity tangling with Goemon's works well, and their final encounter where
was a scene that clicked with the noire tone the series is flirting with. Music is still fantastic too. Apollon will have to work hard to outclass it there.

I have the impression the AKs should have been more bear-like than cat-like, but whatever...
I also find cool that some people now call the threads on this series precisely the '/ak/ threads' (for 4Chan's /a/ & /k/ boards), transgressing boundaries with an overall friendly atmosphere. Oh, and many thanks to the Shitty MSpaint translations™ & Terrible typesetter duo for their efforts!

Really love that train pic. the artwork in the show is uneven at times but it is mostly amazing.

Excellent adaptation of one of the better short story arcs, and a nice added bit with

I noticed they're definitely including Saaya in a lot more scenes than she was in the manga, and she's also the only person besides the trio in the ending, so I guess they're really working to place her as a fourth main character. Fine by me if it means more Kanahana.
Next week is another set of oneshot comedy stories, including one with Chuuma-sensei.

I assume it's in licensing hell now, given that the author and the publisher want nothing to do with each other and the relative incestuousness of the LN -> anime industry. Even if the author does own all rights to the work, actually making the anime seems like a quick way to end up like Muttan on Space Bros.
