Nevertheless. I mean, at this point I don't even care about when Kirito inevitably rescues Asuna, but I might as well finish this. I'm not big on quitting shows and games and books that I start.

Uh, I was referring to Madoka Magica getting those movies. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Lewd bath scene moments not to mention random crotch shots at the end. Just felt random as hell. :lol

Well, SAO was a mixed show for me, but it didn't melt my brain. Hopefully Kuttsukiboshi will (gonna attempt that tonight). But after that... any good anime recs?

(inb4 Regulus says Utena, which I promise I will... eventually).

It should be one of the cardinal laws of AnimeGAF:

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES SPOIL MADOKA

Isn't the whole point of getting Corvo to watch it about the rest of the thread egging him on, posting things to heavily hint at plot-twists and getting satisfaction out of his exaggerated reactions?

I mean, that's what normally happens with anyone who starts watching Madoka and posts about it in the thread.
If no-one says anything about "WATCH UNTIL EPISODE 3!!!!!!" I will be very, very surprised.

Madoka is the first series I'll watch when I get to the Shaft-canon. Well, that or Hidamari.

Aku no Hana - 11

Powerful stuff! I don't know what the flowers symbolize though. Curious to know what Kasuga is gonna write to Nakamura.

Anything specific?

It should be Hidamari because you'll "appreciate" Ume-sensei's designs in Madoka, but also because it's the best Shaft series.

I thought the point of me watching Utena was that it was supposed to be good, though. Not every recommendation I get seems to be bad. The first season of Code Geass was great, for instance.

Second season? What are you...oh. The second season is marked with two exclamations instead of one? Well that's not confusing at all.
One excalamation mark vs two isn't that bad all things considered. There is worse out there like in the case of Working!! where season 2 got a ' thrown in.

Will Doremi really get better at magic as she goes up the ranks of magic?
Well given the type of show do you really need to ask? Of course she gets better to the point of being able to use the latest toy you have to buy.

After watching the last GuP OVA. Why is there no real old school sentai anime?

http://youtu.be/D_4u6liWpBE
Pretty much most old Super Robot anime fits the bill for that.

Steins;Gate.
We are trying to get them to watch more. Not blind them.

Also, Garzey's Wing was fun. I mean it was horrible, no doubt, but I had a lot of fun watching that with Anime GAF.

And, much as I overacted during Code Geass R2, I think that show got me to loosen up quite a bit. If not I'd probably still hate Valvrave, instead of enjoying the heck out of it.

Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru is the best Shaft show, just so you know. Hidamari Sketch is pretty good too though, especially the second season.

They're the flowers of evil! Notice the cover of Kasuga's Baudelaire book.

Also note the fairly obvious symbolism from the first episode of the flowers growing at the climax of the episode.

Layers of meaning!

I really need to get around to watching the rest of this show, I'm only up to episode 2. Nine episodes of horrifying teenage awkwardness to get through might be a bit much to marathon, though...

I'm watching this once I finish Glass Fleet. Alternatively, you should totally watch Glass Fleet. But not til I'm done.

Garzey's Wing is fun. It's stupid and terrible, but there are just so many lol-worthy things in Garzey's Wing. I can't look at all the fairy wings in SAO without thinking of Garzey's Wing.

How can you not?

Well you see, back when I was in middle school, I was more... wide in variety of stuff I consumed (actually no I wasn't, it's debatable at this point of time).

So there's this one dude I'm still friends with to this day seem a bit.... unknowing about truly dirty stuff. Home schooled basically. So every now and again, we "expanded" his horizons, even though he said I corrupted him (for the better he says). So I wouldn't expect anything from him that'll ever get me disturbed. This was my mistake here.

So one day, I think we were talking about dirty things, being middle schoolers who has porn thrusted upon them by the internet, and I believe anal was mentioned. He then proceeded to tell a story about how his aunt was a nurse, and she had to deal with a gay couple. Apparently, because they constantly went at it, possibly even using large objects (like partner's penis, or worse) to put it in his ass, and it loosen him up to the point that it couldn't hold his shit in, and would just fall out without resistance, and so they needed some type of cup just to catch it. Since then, I could never look at anal the same way. Seeing a gaping asshole is like "dude why". It has prevented me from ever loving anal to the fullest, and I see this as revenge for corrupting him earlier.

And it's strange considering butts is my favorite part of the body :/

Well...that escalated quickly.

Ah yes, the cosplay cafe. Much better animated than in real life.

The character designs are... something else in this show. It's okay, I still like it.

Lol there are some seriously odd things happening in this anim------ LOL WTF AT THAT CARROT EATING... THING

Oh gosh she's going to be a regular character isn't she. She he it. Shit.

Oh gosh her voice suddenly turning that high pitched Japanese girl voice.

I think this is exactly the kind of show I needed to watch right now. -- I really should get to my backlog instead of growing it :I

Congrats. You just completed what is widely considered as the worst episode in the series.

(I didn't think it was that bad tho)

I've never been able to take those opinions seriously, since that episode gave us this.

Please tell me this show feels sufficiently different from Futari Wa. the main problem with Max Heart was it was the EXACT SAME THING as Futari Wa and not even with a new coat of pain(t).

Splash Star is like Futari wa with a new coat of paint, except the new coat of paint is made of rainbows and happiness.

The main characters (and mascots) certainly seem like retreads of exactly the same character types as in the first series, and some plot points feel remarkably familiar as well, but they're all given unique aspects that make them feel new and interesting. The background cast (characters' family and friends, as well as villains), meanwhile, all feels completely new, and this goes a long way towards making the series feel fresh.

Also, it's really good.

In a world where Splash Star exists, I can actually understand why some people consider Futari wa to be "obsolete", because Splash Star basically just takes everything Futari wa did and does it better. (I'm still glad I watched Futari wa, though, if only for Nagisa, lacrosse, and Porun.)

Because 3 months ago killing them meant they would have died for real. And since Alfheim and SAO are practically identical, it means that when he kills someone, it looks just like how it would if someone had been murdered in SAO. People dying in Alfheim look just like the man who died in his arms in SAO, like the party he saw slaughtered by monsters in SAO, like the man he killed in SAO, and so on and so forth. That this has no visible effect on him is absurd. Consider other anime, where when say, Amuro Ray first kills a man, even in self-defense, its a big deal. Kirito barely reacts to killing a man, and now enjoys it.

And I'm guessing it was a big deal when Amuro Ray killed a man because the man he killed actually died? Which makes your comparison hilariously invalid.

Also since you seem to be obsessing over how death "looks" exactly the same in both worlds, I guess I should point out that actually, the death effect in ALO and SAO is completely different. In SAO, dead players explode into crystalline fragments. In ALO, players who die are engulfed in flames (which then shrink down to leave the small "Remain Light" flame that can be used to resurrect them within a certain time limit).

Kirito just jumps into Alfheim and embraces it without the slightest hesitation, and that isn't realistic at all. Anyone, kid or adult, who'd been trapped for two years in a game, should be more cautious about it, and even more so about killing people. That doubt should exist, that this isn't just a game because it wasn't just a game last time, but it doesn't, and that's indefensible poor writing.

Well, he does show a small amount of doubt at the very beginning (largely due to the bug that dropped him in the middle of the field instead of in a starting town as expected). His first instinct is to check his menu to make sure that the logout button is still there. But after that (and a fair amount of discussion with Yui about the nature of this world), he feels comfortable that this is just a game. And "just a game" is exactly where Kirito is most in his element, so it's fair enough that he's able to enjoy it.

It was sudden, especially from Kirito's point of view. In literally one day the place he'd called home was gone, he was sundered from his friends by distance and anonymity, and the entire life he'd had with his wife and child was not only stripped from him, but forbidden him by law to be discussed with anyone.

You quite literally cannot explain away why that shouldn't have a huge effect on him, but there it is. Kirito's busy playing video games when any normal human being should be going through some serious withdrawal. They could even have opted to treat Alfheim as his relapsing because of withdrawal, but that's expecting something of the writer's staff, and expecting anything after the 0 pay off of the first arc is unwise.

As I said already, it wasn't "in literally one day", since he'd
suspected Heathcliff
for a while and put the whole thing into action himself, so he had time to become mentally prepared for this possible outcome. And at the current point in the timeline, he's had a further two months to come to terms with that.

So sure, it's had an effect on him. I guess the appropriate parallel would be moving house away from all the people you knew for two years. But guess what? That's something people do pretty often in real life, and it doesn't necessarily break them mentally. And Kirito isn't just moving away from those people into some empty unknown, he's moving back into the life he knew before, and being reunited with his actual family. So I'm sure that helps.

But perhaps more to the point, any anxiety he may feel about the sudden change in lifestyle has been kind of overwhelmed by his worry about Asuna. That's where all his mental energy has been directed, and is the direct impetus behind everything that happens in this arc.

Because it was. Unless you'd care to explain the villain's motive, I see no reason to say it wasn't. Because Kaiyaba did not explain why he did what he did.

No, not it isn't.

No, no he does not. He spews some bullshit about making a virtual world and that's it. Which he'd done. No explanation is given for trapping and killing thousands of people. And please don't say "not logging out was for the sake of realism" because realism would require that people also be allowed to have kids and age and you couldn't fucking do that, and it doesn't explain his bullshit plan for the 100th floor.

You can dismiss his motive as "bullshit" all you like, but it doesn't change the fact that he explained it, or the fact that the explanation he gave resonated with Kirito and Asuna on some level (even as they still blamed him for causing the deaths of so many).

And of course not logging out was for the sake of realism. That's a huge part of what made Aincrad feel like a living, breathing world rather than just a game that people could access at their leisure. Obviously the "realism" wasn't perfect, and I'm sure Kayaba was more aware of that than anybody. But it was the closest thing he could achieve.

His plan for the game to have a clear goal and satisfying conclusion reflected the fact that even he understood that the world he had created could never be perfect or last forever, so he just wanted to experience it to the full while he could, and then die with it.

And yet none of this is shown at all. Kirito doesn't stop and say "I have to do it for her." As a matter of fact, in episode 19 he's like "Fuck saving my wife, I'm gonna go help this girl I barely know." and sure, maybe he's heroic, but he also has 5 fucking days to save her and is being nonchalant as fuck about it. When in the last episode did he even think about Asuna?

He's always thinking about Asuna. He doesn't talk about it much, because he's travelling with Leafa and she doesn't even know about Asuna, but it's still his driving force. But at the same time, he doesn't really have a clear idea of how to find her. All he's got to go on is one blurry screenshot, and a vague plan to head to the centre of ALO because that's where she's most likely to be. He doesn't know what he's going to do when he gets there, or even if going there will help at all. In fact, he knows that even if he gets to the World Tree, reaching the top of it is a theoretically impossible task that nobody in this game has ever accomplished. He's still basically just clutching at straws.

So I'll tell you why he's still able to sidetrack and help Leafa. Because it makes sense from an emotional standpoint: Leafa has been a huge help to him; without her, he wouldn't have been able to familiarise himself with this world and make such swift progress on his journey, and he's grateful for that and wants to repay her. And at the same time, it also makes sense from a logical standpoint: rather than stubbornly stick to his plan-that-is-no-plan to the exclusion of all else, it's sensible to stick with the one clear ally he has in this world, and quite possibly make many more allies in the process.

Sword Awful Online 20

This is the worst anime I've ever watched. It isn't even worth mocking anymore. When every part of an episode is nonsensical bullshit, it doesn't even bear pointing it out anymore.

Oh, good. I don't know how many more of these monster posts I have in me, and I think it's pretty clear at this point that we're never going to agree on anything about this series XD

It should be Hidamari because you'll "appreciate" Ume-sensei's designs in Madoka, but also because it's the best Shaft series.

No, it should be Madoka because Madoka is 12 episodes compared to Hidamari's 50-odd, and every day a person doesn't watch Madoka is another day they're risking having the experience spoiled for them.

I'm not saying to watch every single episode (though I'm admittedly not saying not to either), just up to the second season and its specials is what it takes to realize if you're ready for more Hidamari.
