Overall, that's not an uncommon opinion. You liked season 1 far less than the normal gundam audience, but I think with season 2 and the movie most would end up agreeing with you.

Well, you are strange at this one. It's an impossible difference for us to reconcile. Heck, you may be completely alone is this opinion, haha. We all have our weird personal tastes.

I think my problem with Zeta was three fold: First that it had a lot of hype going in, like everyone told me it was the greatest thing and so much better and blah blah blah so I was expecting the greatest thing and blah blah blah. The second problem was that it had some seriously bad pacing issues, what with its recycling the "Katz/Fa/Sarah steals a ship to escape the Argama" plot quite literally to the point of death, nevermind the "Four is dead! No she isn't yes she is no she isn't!" that the show did. Then there was Rekkua, whose character is best likened to a loved one's corpse: beautiful at first, but rots slowly until there's nothing but a husk of the person you liked remaining. And then the ending where
they killed everyone but most importantly Lt. Emma.

ZZ, meanwhile, was the underdog where people only told me bad things. So when I clicked with the show, and
Leina's blood happened
, well, I fell in love with it. Beecha and Mondo never really stuck with me, but they were at least less awful than Katz, and while I had a hard time taking Glemy as seriously as Haman, he wasn't as obnoxious as Paptimus.

Also, I watched the dub of Zeta and the sub of ZZ, and I'm confident this had a significant negative effect on the former.

Lucky Star OVA

Pretty impressed with all the different animation styles and storytelling they did in this. Pretty amusing to see a bunch of short stories which all had a variety of silliness. Part 2, 3, 6, 7 and the Lucky Channel was all great.

Now I'm sad there's no more Lucky Star to watch. It has been a fun ride.

As cool as a Tea Party convention in middle America!

Are you sure that this analogy doesn't actually work against you? I mean, my particular slice of Middle America is pretty teabagger...

Mad Pierrot: I still proudly stand by my original assessment of Freudcatch:

3/5 shit, 1/5 okay, 1/5 great.

And you're still wrong!

The more conservative the culture, the more perverted the... perverts!

I probably would have fared a much better chance of growing up as a vanilla T&A person if I hadn't been severely sexually repressed by my parents for my entire youth.

Utena 11

Utena x Wakaba is way better than Utena x Anthy, even though they're not related. If only Utena were a dual wielder, she, too, could be like the Lonely Beater. You guys wanna read my Utena x SAO Kingdom Hearts cross over? It's all about how Nanami and Suguha help each other accomplish their true goals while helping fight The Heartless!

What do the balloons mean? I don't know. Just balloons in this scene, I guess.

Oh a spoiler button !!
maybe people will use spoilers more often then ?

Those of us with plugins have already enjoyed the pleasures of having a spoiler button for sometime! I really couldn't imagine browsing and using GAF without such basic features.

While Japan is, indeed, very conservative that particular convention came about as a result of laws laid down by Americans to censor pornographic works.

I know that I've read at least one article blaming the origins of lolicon on the fact that Americans forbade the depiction of pubic hair in Japan, but a.) I can't remember where and b.) it's almost certainly 100% bullshit or at least infinitely more complex than a single cause.

I honestly wonder if anything would be different for me. Like, the stuff that tickles my brain has done so since early childhood.

Why the long case?
I asked this once before in here but forgot to come back and read the responses,

Can anyone recommend comedy-ish college/highschool animes? I'm watching Oreimo but it's not really my thing. It's definitely funny but the story is kind of boring to me.

Golden Boy if you can stomach boobies.

Haven't seen it but people here seemed to enjoy Daily Lives of High School Boys . I think that's the title anyhow.

Full Metal Panic! Fumoffu is a high school comedy that requires little understanding of the events of the rest of the Full Metal Panic! series.

Thanks, I will check out every recommendation listed.

I really love the humor in most of what I have watched for some reason. Maybe it's just a cultural thing.

Tragic victim of fan death
Chuunibyou OVA

That was an awesome episode. Ton of hijinks and dumb stuff that made me laugh. It was also sweet seeing how the two dumb idiotic characters try and balance their relationship and the chuunibyou insanity. Seems like Rikka does it more for the kicks than anythng which is better than the drama stuff from the previous episodes. If this episode is any indication of what's going to be in season 2 then I'm preftly fine with that as long as there's some overarching storry connecting it all. Don't let it end up like the shit that is K-On because that's just too boring for me.

NB: I was disappointed by the lack of Dark Flame Master. =//

Toradora! if you're looking for some romance with your comedy.

Nichijou if you aren't.

Okay, I just went back to the source book (The Erotic Anime Movie Guide) to double check all the details. It doesn't blame Americans at all and instead explains that most censorship came about as a result of a law passed in 1918. For reference that law doesn't forbid 'lolicon' at all which, I agree, is unlikely to be a significant route cause in the emergence of such works.

Hmm. Depends what kind of show you're looking for really. And I'm not sure what you've seen before, but here are a few good 'uns.

K-ON! for cute girls doing cute things.
Sket Dance for amusing gags with the occasional short but engaging serious arc.
Ano Natsu de Matteru for romantic antics.
Nichijou for offbeat, over-the-top comedy that can be hit-or-miss (personally I love it, but some people hate it), and godly animation.
Tari Tari for...actually, don't watch Tari Tari, it's boring. Also doesn't really have any comedy. Why did I list this show again?

Well, there are certain things that I know I've been interested in since a very early age, but any expression of sexual attraction (even simply referring to a girl as "pretty") was deemed obscene and sinful, so until I grew older the only way that I could feel comfortable appreciating the female body was through things that felt less inherently sexual than tits and genitalia (read: tons of fetishes). Yeah...

I'm going to get into K-ON! soon (I have watched some before). That is the art style I like the most. Also romantic antics are great.

I'll check all of those out.

Really, when I think about what might have been, it boils down to being less stunted socially and probably being freer to explore.

UTENA 11 LIKE FOR REELZ THIS TIME, GAIZ

So, let me begin by saying I'm glad that
Utena lost.
It's undoubtedly the best thing for her character in the long run, and an
undefeated hero
is never good for a plot. Even Domon Kasshu had to lose at some points to understand the value of victory.

Most of what else I enjoyed in this episode is that Tengou's manipulative seeds, carefully planted several episodes back, came to fruition in this and, as he said, "betray them as powerfully as they trust you."

I sort of got that the balloons' color referred to the person they were speaking about (hence the green balloon referring to Saionji when Miki referenced a cat.) and that Tengou's song talked about puzzles and masks because he isn't what he seems.

The question I'm left with now is, if EotW is in charge of issuing orders to who can duel and who cannot (since this is apparently the reason that Saionji was expelled, dueling when it was not his assigned turn), then how does Utena go about challenging again?

Utena's a wild card. The "chance" factor, if you'd say.

As expected, what I read was baseless speculation. However, I suppose that I should clarify that I wasn't implying that lolicon in any way contributed to the rise of hentai in general, but was merely sharing my own tangential kernel of (apparently false) knowledge on the topic of postwar American censorship of Japanese erotica. I appreciate you taking the time to refer to an authoritative source.

So she just does what she wants, then?

Tonight I learned there was an authoritative source for such things.

Ojamajo Doremi 01 & 02

Errbody watching this show. Is this the new (old) Smile Precure? I guess I should get in on some of this action too. So who am I supposed to be shipping in this show...?

Oh, I see.

j/k, sexualizing Doremi's is bad. This is a cute show, though. Will watch some more.

It's spreading. Good. Good.
