Persona 5 has such a slick presentation. Been mashing through that all week.

Forgot Your Name was coming out to nearby theatres so I managed to put the game down long enough to go watch it. Watched it dubbed but there was one segment where I had difficulty reading
when Taki was going through the links Mitsuha sent him. I guess it was a bunch of clickbait dating magazine garbage or something based on his comment but my eyes were bugging out for some reason trying to find the English text.

It's precisely because
it's a Shinkai film that I wanted it to end like a Shinkai film. lol

I don't think I can handle a lifetime of films ending with varying amounts of loss.

If you were still holding out hope that one day a Japanese (or just non-Hollywood) film would once again win the Best Animated Feature Academy Award, new rule changes will make it harder for them to even get nominated.

The committees have been under increasing criticism in recent years for shunning films like The Lego Movie and showing a marked preference for hand-drawn or stop-motion films over CG movies…The move should substantially increase the number of voters in the category, and perhaps lessen the bias toward old-school animation.

Ah yes, it is well known how the category that has given 14 of its 16 awards to CG features is biased against CG. (The two non-CG winners were Spirited Away in 2001 and Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit in 2005.)

Yeah, that's basically it. In my screening the subs were placed slightly above the Japanese text on the phone.

But that's what makes Shinkai, Shinkai!

---

You know, I don't know if anyone will do it, but I think it'd be a funny experiment for people who have seen Your Name to watch the Star Trek TNG episode The Inner Light and compare them.

It's a harem show about a guy who writes light novels and has a shut in sister who draws porn.
So it sounds like OreImo mashed up with that porn writer show. lol

lmao. this is such an :eek:scars thing to do when responding to criticism

Decided to watch a few Shinkai films before Toonami starts tonight. First up:

5 Centimeters Per Second - Wooboy does this fall on the opposite end of the spectrum that Your Name did. Given how anime has a habit of romanticizing Childhood romances, this was a change of pace reflecting on it with a more depressing and melancholy light.
A good 95% of the time, you don't end up with your first love and staying hung up on them can have a negative impact on your future relationships.
Was happy to see that it did still end on a more positive light though.

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.

This makes me so angry I'm going to make a thread.

Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL Season 1 Episode 3 – In the End: Part 1 (engdub)

Feeling the flow in the end with an awesome explanation from Caswell, hilarious.

I wonder why they keep explaining some of the duel basics, seems weird for yet another iteration of YGO (though oddly its what Bushiroad cardgame anime do each season). I like it, though some of it is a bit detailed (taking damage while attacking a reverse card, odd to explain that).

Kitsu....I'm all for nuance in ratings, hell its one reason I no longer see the point of rating anything on Netflix, but a 20 point system is just a bit too much nuance for me. What next? percentile ratings for animation, story, characters and voices averaged up into a ranking?

So I'm moving onto the simple system. I guess bad, meh, good, great might even be the right amount of nuance I need anyway.

Of course I don't really see 6/10 as a Meh rating anyway so that's another argument.

Masamune-kun's Revenge Episode 12 – Don't Let Go of the Mic, Even if You Die

Dissapointed Masamune didnt sing Chouchou's op song, I wanted to hear him sing. Otherwise felt like a reason to just have the ability to sell charasong album episode.

Overall decent anime, felt a bit overhyped before hand and the anime doesnt really make me want to check out the manga.

Really only stayed in this for Tatsuya Katou ost, which is phenomenal.

The Garden of Words - Pretty straightforward tale here. I'm starting to noticing a reoccurring theme in Shinkai's works that he loves himself some bitter-sweet romance stories. While I liked this movie, I do believe it would have benefited more from actually being feature-lengthed.

So far of Shinkai movies I've watched I'd probably go:

5 Centimeters Per Second > Your Name > The Garden of Words

So upon looking at screencaps of the first episode of Shingeki no Bahamut Virgin Soul, I feel it is important to make a statement.

Men cannot love dragon. Men and dragon cannot coexist. Visionaries from old and modern history have told us this.

At no point should it ever be acceptable to make love to a dragon.

You sound like those fuckers in Ishgard I'm slaving away for now.

Goddamn, that was fantastic. A perfect balance of funny and tearjerking. And
it ends happily for everyone, but the Kannazuki no Miko-esque ending was drawn out a little. I was screaming "Find her already! Find her!" in my head during the ending. And he does. The scene is weird. They notice each other on the train, run around looking for each other, find each other, THEN walk past each other only to the turn around and say "have we met before?" I was expecting them to leapt into each other's arms.
The backgrounds were jaw dropping as usual with Shinkai, And the animation was top notch.

MARGINAL #4 the Animation Episode 11 – Separation That Leads to Prominence

The plot has been done in lots of male idol anime before but this was one of the better done ways for it. I think Atom personality kept it from feeling like the usual thing since he didnt think too much of it but the others did. Rui especially getting heavily emotional about it and Tsubasa too, great friendship values all around.

Piling onto Atom was the best.

I also liked the random talking in english skit.

Sand Whale and Me part 4

I'm starting to think this whole thing is commentary on the shitty inventory system in Resident Evil 5.

If not that, it's just gibberish.

Any recommendations for an anime like Blue Spring Ride? I watched it on whim cause I thought the art looked kinda interesting, and ended up absolutely loving it. I guess another similar one would be Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day (though it's more fantastical) or Usagi Drop (Bunny Drop).

I didn't dig Toradora! (watched the first ~5 episodes, I'll probably go back at some point since it gets recommend so often) or Your Lie in April (dropped it after the first episode or two, another one I'll probably return to eventually).

I'm starting Orange and Say "I Love You" right now, anything else I should look at?

I agree. Tried to love a dragon once but he couldn't commit

He just kept draggin his feet on our relationship.

Your Name massive spoilers:

(Just speculation)
It's been about 5 years since the incident, so there's still that bit of disconnection that they feel towards one another. There's also a theory going around that because Taki/Mitsuha stepped into into that sacred area that her Grandma mentioned, "in order to leave here to go back to the other side, they have to leave something important of theirs behind."

In the earlier part, we saw that being done with Mitsuha's kuchikami sake, but for the later part where Taki/Mitsuha had their reunion, the forces governing that area might have stripped their knowledge of one another's name (something that's very important to both of them) as a toll for allowing them to return to the living world safely. That might be one of the reasons why they kept on bringing up the "what's your name" theme. Again,
just a theory I heard

Re : Creators ep 1
USING A THE SUB MACHINE AND A SWORD AS A VIOLIN WTFISTHISSHIT.

Hataraku Maou Sama! called, it want it's reverse Isekai world schtick back.

Anyway, I never know much about this show except for the Key visual. The moment I saw Troyca and the designs I knew Ei Aoki and Sawano is back.......which means there is a Slaine equivalent out there I hope lol.

Time to beat on the dead horse again but the glasses on first person view is stupid and obstructive, what is Ei Aoki thinking? For a person who direct and probably studied films/show he should know this kind of thing doesn't make sense.

Action is nice, I hope the next episode explores the culture shock.

But the recent MHA episode wasn't dragging it out at all???

anything less than 20 chapters per episode is to slow.

I mean it only takes me a minute to read a chapter so a 20 minute episode should take 20 chapters.

it's simple math :3

note: 2 chapters per episode is what I have been expecting since they announced the second season would be 20 some episodes)
