Well, outside of the rapey $hit, that was a pretty damn good episode. You knew something was up with him, but I like the dude now, as long as he keeps it clean...

Not sure if I saw references to it on ANN or here but I watched the first episode of Princess Lover and my overwhelming thought is "Why has so much effort gone into this?". I mean it's standard harem ecchi fare but the background art is good, the animation is dynamic and frequent, the writing is actually good in places and the music is well chosen to boot.

I mean the opening scenes having breakfast with the protagonists parents before they die is genuinely well done, a simple 4 minute scene where they share breakfast and their obvious affections for one another made their deaths feel more real than 99% of dead parents in anime. Of course it is an ecchi harem so I'm sure it will get stupid at some point but there seems to be more effort put in here than seems reasonable for the genre

I don't think people watched the series and instead
watched the NSFW OVA with one of the girls, hahaha

Given that the ED just strips the girls I can imagine that would be a thing

Akashic etc 02
Ah well the restraint was never going to last, I dropped off the manga from about here and think I'll do the same again. Occasional hints of interesting background systems etc drowned out by those uniforms, tired mega MC nonsense and a nasty taste for sexualised violence combined with awful jokes ("sorry for interrupting" really?).

I thought people just liked the porno.

Oh. I see I'm late.

I'm gonna spoil this for people because it would only cause people's interests to rise or at worse not lessen in this anime and it's not really relevant to anything; but as far as I've read, even when more girls start showing up and because it's a harem they're obviously all about his dick, he is completely uninterested/sees them as students/does not fingerbang any of them. He keeps it strictly platonic.

Probably cause he's slamjamming his master. Why else would she keep him around?

Oh by the way, did we ever get a VA announcement for Pop Team Epic. After reading the latest chapter I'm sort of curious who they're gonna get to say all this ridiculous shit. My interest in VAs only goes as far as when they pick popular cutesy VAs to play awful characters that swear or say terrible things. I enjoy watching fan reactions.

Yeah, there are always a minute or two of a show, which really put a damper on it, but the reaction/result after that moment was pretty well done.

The show is not on my A, B or even C list, but it is enough to pay attention to for now.

Oh and thanks for the Princes Lover reminder, I had to move that to my Watch list when I'm done Midori Days.

Well, this is good news at least!

This post is significantly more amusing after the direction the Princess Lover conversation took

LOL, I was referring to the first page post.

There is no way that OVA could be worse than the "sensei" OVA from The Testament of Sister New Devil; now that one was "special"

It is by virtue of the fact it is actual hentai. Not "so lewd it might as well be hentai." like many ecchi show OVAs are.

Watched Silent Voice on cinema too.

Fine movie overall. No complaints there. Fine adaptation that captured the manga's message quite well. Though I'd like to see the relations between the two mothers develop as well, like in the manga. I am closer to their age...

But the biggest gripe was with the animation.

I felt I was watching something produced for TV instead of cinema. Hardly felt cinematic. Not only that but even for TV standards it wasnt Kyoto Animation's best work. TV series like Hyouka had much better quality. Some scenes were so static there wasnt even character movement.

Ghibili's Ocean Waves was made for TV, yet it was more cinematic than this. Had I seen a Silent Voice on Blueray, I'd have liked it much better. I felt it didnt use the cinema medium to a full extent.

Ojamajo Doremi 03

First episode led me to believe it was a silly comedy-adventure kind of show but it's becoming clear that it is something more than that. This had some moving moments, Doremi's attempt to help her friend backfired in the most amusing way possible.

I will always welcome a character with a Kansai dialect, they don't even need a tough family/economic situation to get my attention.

With Ai-chan's addition there's an interesting trio at hand with distinct personalities and lifestyles.

We all know that's not the full reason you enjoyed the episode.

Speaking of Idolmaster why BGBW should watch Sakura Quest:

Alice to Zouroku - 02

This still feels quite nicely done. Zouroku's cheerful granddaughter and Alice paired together with the magical antics was fun.

I'm afraid, though, that the 'evil' organization is wholly uninteresting so far. Its president is lacking in intrigue and charisma.

You're the only one I've seen who's made the complaint that A Silent Voice has notably poor production values. While I have unfortunately not had the chance to watch the film yet, given the excerpts I have been able to see in trailers I have to question your judgement here. Of course, Hyouka was itself at a cinematic level of presentation, but it doesn't appear that A Silent Voice is a notable regression from that, let alone KyoAni's other recent TV shows and movies.

SukaSuka ep.1
Yeah, for a first episode, this is surely hitting a LOT of good notes. The art is beautiful,(not that screenshot though) the OST and OP/ED are great and the world is very interesting. I mean, the maid is an ogre that eats people shaped crackers, but looks like your typical moe maid.... No really though, this was really good. Probably my favorite opening this season. Glad I can take a deep breath of relief that this didn't suck.

Youjo Senki had a promising start - the premise had me all wet to the touch. Sadly, it proved disappointing in its execution... maybe time to look into something this season.

I haven't watched it, but from what he has written, maybe the problem isn't that it doesn't have good production values, but it falls too much on talking heads and 'boring direction'?

Yeah the scene wasn't too bad at restraining itself in terms of fan service until after he comes in the door and makes a joke about the obvious sexual assault, then there's several shots of her bra when they could have just left that black camisol in place. I mean it's no Tsugimomo "Haha the child is upset and crying at having been touched up while in the shower" levels of messed up, if I see folks on here saying that it can drop this habit I'm open to going back unlike Tsugimomo. At least as OniBarubary points out the MC never seems to reciprocate any romantic interest in his students, he's all about the Prof.

Oh and thanks for the Princes Lover reminder, I had to move that to my Watch list when I'm done Midori Days.

I could have sworn it was one of your fun ecchi recommendations! I'm up to ep 5 and apart from gratuitous ED nudity and a love of panty shots there's been several more moments where I've found myself asking again "why are they trying so hard?". For example Ep 4 had a nice resolution to the Tsundere character who had a rational reason for disliking the MC and the whole thing was resolved in a believable fashion,
the MC's grandfather had neglected his wife during the boom years and she ran off with tsundere's grandfather who ran an aligned company, MC's grandpa then banned all products from the other company, MC asks him and the grandfather recognises he was being a dick then and has known this for years but couldn't lose face admitting this, he asks the MC to extract him from the ban as his successor

Oh wow... What a treat this was.... Some of you will hate the production of this, others, that like dramatic love stories/romcoms, WATCH THIS NOW! Something really resonated here and it blew me away. Outstanding. Tuesdays are my favorite days of the season without a doubt. This was great, I mean, just great...

That was a improvement from the previous episode. You can tell this show have put in some effort unlike piss poor efforts of some other shows a few years back.

Glenn is a secret badass.

Nino, a girl who likes to sing, experienced two farewells in the past. First, with her first love, Momo, and second, with Yuzu, a boy who composes music. But upon those two farewells, she made a promise with each of them: to continue singing until they find her voice again. Time has passed, and now these three are in high school...?!

It's a shoujo manga adaptation, so it's destined to follow some drama all based around the girl (love triangle incoming) but it has an odd and inviting tone to it.

That's gotta be a record for a show immediately becoming the boring overplayed shit it was spoofing. Taking out the comedy from last episode only left the very bad writing and then of course ending by ratcheting up the sexism present from ridiculous fan service to actual disgusting use of man saves woman from rape because they can't do it anything on their own. I thought maybe this could be a fun thing to watch week to week but I'm out.

What's the best "trapped in the video game" anime? I've never seen one before but it sounds like a fun premise.

Log Horizon by far. Especially the first season is just excellent. Overlord as well is pretty great and is getting a promising as hell second season.

SAO is also a must watch. For the exact opposite reason, though.

No Game No Life is also a good contender, though I don't know if there will be a second season or what.

You have to include Konosuba in that list as well.

One of the arguments is that if Konosuba is considered a "trapped in a video game" story or not. It's more of an isekai/reincarnation story than a "trapped in a video game" story.

Not sure if No Game No Life counts either.

There's a difference between "trapped in a video game" like SAO, Log Horizon, .hack and I guess Overlord and "reincarnated/transported into fantasy world that happens to work like a video game".

Konosuba, NGNL, Re:Zero, Grimgar belong to the latter and are just isekai with more or less video game elements.

How is NGNL lazy about it, there aren't stats or MMO elements or any game elements at all, they're literally trapped in a world where a God has decided that everything is ruled by games; as in shit like chess and tag and shiratori.

NGNL isn't even remotely a "trapped in a game" anime. There's literally nothing video gamey about it.

KonoSuba and NGNL are just lazy about it being trapped in an MMO in that its just a fantasy world that has MMO elements in it but its not actually a game

did you actually watch NGNL?

konosuba totally has MMO elements but NGNL is just fantasy (granted they were playing a mmo in the real world before being taken to the other world). they aren't trying to be in a MMO merely a fantasy world where everything is determined by games.

there is no leveling up, or quests with rewards it's just the main characters slowly taking over the world by playing games so they can go beat up god in a game of chess :p

aka NGNL is just fantasy not MMO elements, though also... it is a game... as everything is a game in NGNL :p

well....

except the last arc of the anime that they play a video game :p

Yup.

The difference between .hack, Log Horizon and SAO and the others mentioned are pretty stark.

In the three above you are always very distinctly reminded that they are trapped in a video game(various terms, how they interact with each other and menu popups, etc), whereas Konosuba may use video gamey skills and classes, that's really about it.

NGNL world isn't a trapped in a video game world at all, it is simply a world where problems are solved via 'games'.

You guys are talking about the show where two godlike gamers use their godlike gaming ability to win games in a fantasy world based on games where the last arc of the anime literally takes place in a video game
