Square Enix to Hold Conferences

Square Enix will be holding two conferences, the first in Tokyo on April 13th and another in Osaka on April 15th, to release information regarding their upcoming titles. SquareNet speculates that Advent Children and FFXII will receive some coverage. In other news, Modojo has reported that the UMD for Advent Children will be released before the DVD.

Is this real or not?

"Hello everyone, we wish to thank you for coming and are pleased to inform you that while FFXII has been cancelled, we have brought Mr. Matsuno in and he will be performing circus tricks in order to make up for his blunder"

I am slightly worried that they will bundle an FF12 demo with Musashi 2. That would kill Katamari Damacy 2 sales :(

Normally I would feel bad for Katamari the case presented, but personally if I can have the lengthy sexy FFXII demo in my hands at the expense of KD2 bombing...then so be it :P

Nah, the fact that Koyasu voices the main villain will already be enough for it to kill KD2's sales in Japan. :D

It should be noted that FFXII and Advent Children have about a ZERO percent chance of showing up because this is a conference where Square Enix shows off their Summer wares to retailers. Nothing interesting should be expected nor any announcements. Here's what's likely going to be there:

- Grandia III
- Musashi 2
- Front Mission Online
- Drag-on Dragoon 2
- Fullmetal Alchemist 3

Yeah I bet that's awfully interesting! Not! :lol

What's the good word on FMA2 anyhow? I watched a small chunk of episodes recently and came away pretty impressed. I think it was Bebpo whom mentioned something about part 2 being a pretty solid game unlike the first.

FMA2 is a sold anime game if you're a fan. It's not a great game, but it's just not painfully bad like most anime games. So if you like the show it's worth a play through.

are you anti grandia 3?

No but they're not going to show anything new, let's be realistic. Everyone wants to know wtf is up with FFXII and FFVIIAC, but we're not getting any answers today! :D

Dude, I'm not saying those games aren't interesting. But they won't be showing anything NEW from those games either. Everything there is to know, we already know. I listed games that have already been announced and had big information releases recently to illustrate that there'll be nothing NEW on the plate. Stop making me look like some Front Mission/Grandia hater you bastards! :lol

I don't get very well what have passed with FF XII. I was incredibly surprised they showed a playable demo at E3 and it looked very solid. I thought they would finish for end of that year.

A summary of what happened at the Osaka Square Enix conference today (which is the same as the Tokyo one this thread was started for).

As expected, nothing new. Musashi 2, FMA3 and Grandia 3 were shown. This guy probably has terrible taste, but he's a retailer after all.

- Musashi 2's action part is pretty strong, the enemies are powerful and it's pretty enjoyable.

- FMA3 is improved on from the previous game, and with the movie coming out in the Summer as well interest should be strong and it should appeal to all FMA fans.

- Grandia 3 has really smooth action in battle and the way the characters move and talk reminds him of Star Ocean games. Combos are cool and you can do air combos too.

Oh and no there was nothing on anything FF whatsoever, so don't expect them for the Summer. :D

If FFXII doesn't come out this summer, even September,in Japan it will be really ridicolous.
I expect them to bring a new demo at the E3 and I hope it will show why they're taking so long to complete the game.Significant improvements in the combat system and graphic engine should be expected as the minimum.
Maybe they're trying to create a FFXI-like world but with the level of detail of traditional Final Fantasy. That could explain the delays.

Honestly, I hope they did something about the characters, because damn near all of them have blonde hair. None of the characters really look distinct from each other.

Drag-on Dragoon 2 was also shown. All games were playable. The writer said that DOD2 has improved gameplay over the original and he is going to buy DOD2 and Grandia III.

With any luck the reason for FFXII's delays is becuase they realized changing the battle system from an ATB derivitave to a very american style KOTOR ish battle system was a very poor decision. I mean correct me if I'm wrong but hasnt' the game not been shown since last years E3 at all, except in a few pictures and a couple videos ?

It is very likely that some major changes were made... I mean the game looked 70-80% done last year, last time I checked that final 20 % or so shouldn't take more then 4-5 months especially with there staff so huge. I gotta say I'm kind of glad for the wait though, it's been 4 years since any sort of real FF game has come out and you could almost say I miss it, so when this finally comes out it'll be a nice refreshing game for me.

Uh, how is that a poor decision? I was looking forward to FFXII because they got rid of the archaic random battles and ATB system.

I admire your optimism, but I can't help but worry that the team has gotten pissed off with the situation and the game may end up worse as a result. The first signs of trouble appeared when they changed Ashe's design without shouting about it. Perhaps there was a big staff change at that point - either that or they changed the story a bit. I don't think they'd just redraw the character for the hell of it.

In what way did Square change Ashe's design? I haven't heard about it.

I thought you meant Vann

Well he was more masculine at first, then they changed him to be more feminine (more than he is now), and then they made one more change. (The end result we have now)

Ashe is the female lead.

Is it confirmed that they really changed her?

I remember Olimario posting something like these awhile back.

They changed Yuna's face between the first released render and what made it into the game also.... i think.

In the FMV portion of the trailers, Ashe didn't look exactly like those first renders, but she's not ugly like on of those redesigns either..

kinda do look like this though

Yeah, hopefully they masculinized Vaan up some. I mean he doesn't need to be the terminator, but fuck, give him something other than that baby vest he has on. If you throw some titties on Vaan, he would be a pretty convincing woman. In fact, he kind of looks like Melanie off of the latest season of real world.

Ashe looks quite a bit better on those original drawings to me. Brown hair fits her better instead of that washed out blonde color. She also looks a bitmore youthful in original renditions.

After the bomb that was Final Fantasy the movie, what better way to get Square's financial boat back afloat than to enlist the amazing talents of!!!

Just stop wasting your time dwelling on this game. It's canned and will never see the light of day. Matsuno made a deal with with the Godhands that required him to sacrifice his entire team to make himself a god, so the entire floor where FFXII was being developed is now an indoors 13th floor version of Silent Hill. Square Enix isn't mentioning anything as they hope not to draw attention from the authorities but eventually the smell will get intorlerable and someone will complain.

So whaddya reckon now?
FF7AC and KH2 for Christmas, FF12 next Spring? :'''(

Summer line-up like this?
June DOD2
July Musashi 2
August FMA3
September Grandia 3

FF7's character design and models were also changed halfway through development. I don't think it's that big a deal.

At this point I'm thinking Grandia 3 might be a lock for August at the latest. FMA3 doesn't really matter as much as regardless of when it's released it'll do about 100-200k tops and is a fanbait franchise. It's look really bad for the big Square titles at the moment, FFXII is still listed for "Spring 2005" on the official site which means they're practically ignoring the issue, while KH2 doesn't even have a release date. Not even in 2005. ~_~

DOOMED! T_T
