Just finished it :( Last mission was kinda crap but other than that I loved it.

I neeeeeeeeeed Stalker 2 now please :)

Not until 2012 and it's being developed in part for consoles to boot :( although the official Facebook page gives the inclination that they really do care what the fans think. For example, they recently had a thing where you put up ideas for a quest. Right now they're sorting through them and will pick one to put in Stalker 2.

In the meantime, to satiate your Stalker needs, I have 3 recommendations for you.

1. Watch the Tarkovsky film. He's a brilliant director, and having seen most of his films I cans safely say Stalker is one of his best. It's not the same as the game but the similarities are far greater than the book, Roadside Picnic.

2. Play other atmospheric FPS games where you have a decent amount of choice. Specifically, System Shock 2, Deus Ex, Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines, and the upcoming Deus Ex 3.

3. http://newsfeed.time.com/2010/12/15/newest-tourist-attraction-chernobyl-to-open-to-visitors-in-2011/

Alright, I've got the AtmosFear mod, Absolute nature 2.0 and the Absolute structures mod queued for download, is there any other must-have mod I'm missing?

Why not just use the Complete mod? It includes AtmosFear, Absolute Structure and loads more goodies

I'm playing with the complete mod, and holy fuck this is so good.

I actually feel like I'm progressing compared to the first two games where I felt like everything was just a pain in the ass and there was nothing interesting to do.

It's so perfectly designed within the limitations of the x-ray engine. After going through it for a second time I'm almost as hyped for Stalker 2 as I am for Half-Life 3.

The best thing about the complete mod is that you can actually see shit in the distance. I can't even remember if this is the case in Vanilla, but whenever I got high enough to look around the map, I couldn't see a lot of the landmarks around the first area. Stuff like the two ships and noah's ark, the other broken down area with that blue anomoly, the bridge, and some other stuff.

Maybe I'm totally misremembering it, but I always felt that I was in a really small environment before, but with the mod, I can now see that I'm part of an actual world.

Even if the game still looks super average at points. Lighting, brick walls, wood and some skyboxes aside. (With shit like DA2 and Crysis 2 coming out this year I have no idea where my high standards for visuals even comes from that I call STALKER average looking...)

Made an agreement with another GAF member, refused to honor it because he was broke, but then had no problem continuing to buy video games.
ok Im getting this game cause I got a good feeling about it :/

I loved to death Fallout 3 and New VEgas , should I expect a similar experience to those games? or maybe Im lookin inteh wrong direction?

Guess I should download that complete mod too

I liked Fallout 3 a good deal but personally I think the STALKER series and especially Call of Pripyat are much better games. They're very similar in concept but STALKER ends up a little closer to the shooter side of things, and without VATS I'd say STALKER is the harder game as well. But it makes up for it with it's incredible atmosphere.

Complete Mod is a must.

So I bought during the steam sale a few days back and installed the complete mod. Looks and plays great but the weapon durability is absolutely ridiculous. I mean you can repair them but at about 4000$ from 1/4 durability to full and they get back down to 1/4 durability after like 50 shots. Anyone know if there is a mod that makes durability of weapons slightly more realistic. For example, if you buy a gun in real life brand new, after you shoot it 50 times it wont disintegrate.

Bought this on Steam a few days ago, and installed the newest version of the Complete mod. I'm in the second zone (Jupiter)
getting my squad together to head into to the tunnel to Pripyat
. At this point, any time I try to travel back to the first zone (such as
to pick up an improved detector
), the game just hard-crashes to desktop right as it looks to be done loading the zone.

Known issue at all? Am I screwed, or will I be able to keep going forward assuming that other such problems don't crop up? I'm far enough into the game that I'd rather not restart. If Complete's just buggy, I think I'd rather uninstall it and find a savefile for the base game that'd put me at around this point.

Same thing happened to me a few times, but IIRC the game created a save before the crash so I could load up the area I was traveling to without any issues. It crashes every time? It was much less prevalent for me, only happened maybe 2 or 3 times.

Yeah, unfortunately it crashes any time I try to travel back to that first area, even if I load saves from a couple hours back, and the saves it creates ostensibly in that new area crash as well. I'd done just about everything back there already, anyways, so I'm hoping that I can just keep playing the game and never have to go back there... or that the crash will fix itself as I progress more, maybe.

Otherwise, if I get stuck I guess I'll just go back to the unmodded version of the game (in case that's the issue) and find a save file that puts me approximately from where I was no longer able to progress.

STALKER isn't an RPG. It's a shooter. It's also a lot bleaker than FO3 and NV. That's not a bad thing but if you're expecting something like FO3 or NV, you'll be disappointed.

Fun fact: I put more hours into Call of Pripyat, according to steam, than I did my entire first playthrough of The Witcher 2. Only because I hoarded equipment and explored a shit ton.

Every time I play SoC or CoP, I always find something new. Whether it's a quest to complete a different way, or a different path, these games have given me around 100 hours of enjoyment. Lonely, opressive enjoyment.

Not sure if these would be spoilers or anything but

Arrived in Pripyat spoilers?

Just arrived in Pripyat. Is there any way back? Or is all the shit I left behind gone for good? It doesn't seem like there's any easy way back, but just to be sure. Also: asked to raid the west wing of a Hospital. Took me ~12 hours to get here, about how much is left of the game?

Yes, you'll be able to go back, I believe. Its been a while, but I think the guy you help in the scientist bunkers brings you between Pripyat and Jupiter.

What other mods to get? I got complete for CoS.

I need to work on melee a baddie got behind me, I switched to knife and ran up to him and swung like 7 times while he ran. I died lol.

Where can I find him?

(and he better help me! I did every mission he offered, heh.)

Perhaps I should do the raid first?

I just had a ton of ammo in my supply box I'd like to haul over to Pripyat.

Instead of ammo I brought a fucking RPG + rockets into the tunnel expecting serious shit.

One of the guys in the main military building in Pripyat will be able to take you from Pripyat to Jupiter, similar to how there's one guy to escort you back and forth from Jupiter to Zaton. You might have to do a mission or two before he's available, but it's definitely possible. He's in the same room as your storage locker and (I think) your bed.

Should I be doing the first contract you come across in that first ship outpost? Because I keep getting owned and the AI does shit all.

Lost from the beginning like I've been the past 2 times I've tried starting this game. I WILL PUSH THROUGH.

The one sultan gives you?

I had no issue with it. This isn't CoD though, cover is essential.

Ok it was a lot easier the second time because I ran in first and didn't depend on the AI. Cover helped too

So, what's the consensus? I see people in 2010 saying not to install any mods. They say play it vanilla. Now people say the complete mod is a must-have.

I am playing SoC right now with its complete mod and it's been awesome so far. So I definitely have time to figure out whether or not I want the complete mod for CoP.

Pripyat is a much more solid base game compared to Chernobyl, in regards to mechanics and game systems and whatnot. Complete isn't a de facto requirement like it is for Chernobyl, but it's still very much recommended.

I dont like the complete mod for CoP. It adds too much worthless shit instead of sticking with what his previous mods did and thats fixing and refining the game's mechanics. Clear Sky complete is the only complete mod I felt was mandatory for the respective game.

I must suck at this game. I am crouched leaned over and aiming down the scopes with a guys head in view. I know I was hitting..he did flinch. I got him down after while but I was bleeding and than got one shot by the guy who popped out near him.

Damn, this game is good.

two quick questions:

1. Is it just me, or are there fewer enemies in CoP? In SoC, I remember coming across mutants and enemy humans much more often. I kinda miss the more frequent combat.

2. How do I detect mines? I need to cross a field, but I don't think I have the right tools for it.

1.yes, there are less enemies, that's one of the reasons that game sucks.

If it's the minefield near one of the helicopters, there are white stakes marking a safe path through over on the right hand side, right up until you hit a corpse.

So I bought this game like a week ago and just now decided to play it. Looks atmospheric and awesome, I can't believe I dismissed it as yet another generic shooter.

Quick question: Should I apply the complete mod or is there a better way to do things?

Didn't test it yet, but from what I'm seeing playing original STALKER with Complete mod - you should definitely try it and tell us your impressions.

So I started this yesterday with the Complete mod. It's my first run through the game. For some reason it wouldn't start if I had DX11 mode enabled (well, it starts. But when I went to go chose the difficulty to start the game, it would freeze). It looks amazing anyway.

Nothing matches the atmosphere in this game.

It took me a few minutes to re adjust myself to the fact that I was playing a Stalker game again, i.e. not having any idea what to do was part of the charm. So I walked around a bit and found a ship. Then the first emission happened. Holy crap. I was in the ship as it happened, so I just heard it and didn't see it. I need to walk around a bit now and actually try and see one just to see what it looks like.

Semblance

shhh Graham I'm still compiling this Radiant map
Finished this just now with the Complete Mod. I did every side quest I could find, explored everything I could explore. Amazing game, I was so hooked. I would say Chernobyl was scarier and Clear Sky was better looking (if it also ran worse), but I think Pripyat was just an all-around more complete, better realized experience. It's easily my favorite of the three, and I was already quite fond of the first.

I'm so excited for whatever Stalker comes next. Such amazing atmosphere. I found Pripyat itself to be a bit unsettling, as I would walk through it I got major 28 Days Later vibes. Dead city, enemies everywhere, never knew when I'd get hit next - or even when the next emission would hit. What a real PC gem this is.

This is probably the one game where I think "I want to play this above all the others" but then I'll go and play something else from my backlog instead.

I just wish I had a better computer to crank all the settings :(

Talk about LTTP.

I need help with this game...

I bought a new laptop recently, and thought I'd try a few games on it. One of those is Stalker CoP.

Now, my set up isn't exactly high end, but this games looks dreadful. I would say that the graphics are on a par with when I used to play Delta Force in 1999.

I adjusted the graphics options to high, willing to sacrifice a few FPS just to see what the game looked like at it's best, and I honestly cannot see any difference.

My set up is:

Intel Core i3-380M 2.53GHz
Nvidia GeForce 315M
6GB RAM

I know, I know, I'm sure some of you have more powerful calculators.

I haven't really played any PC games for years, so I'm at a loss.

No, I'll check it out, thanks.

Having just looked back through this thread, I see other people had the same issues, glad it's not just me.

The foliage especially looks really, really poor.

Hey guys, how can I change the FOV in CoP (Steam, latest Complete mod installed)? I really don't feel like playing it with its default FOV of 55 but the FOV Switcher made my game crash. What am I doing wrong?

It looks like you are using an outdated version of the FOV Switcher? That link point to version 1.6, but I just came across someone mentioning a version 1.7, probably worth giving that one a go: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4DZKJYMM

Okay, I know this isn't Shadow of Chernobyl, but I figured the people here would know.

So, I have no idea why, but since getting the Complete Mod for SoC, my settings will not save when I restart my game. In fact, the game is pretty damn hideous right now, and even using my graphics card to change the settings doesn't work.

Finally started playing COP this week. It's been sitting on my Steam backlog for more than a year. I installed it the game almost a year back, before upgrading from an 8800GT to a 560Ti, and I'm finding the game takes a long ass time to load. Even going to the main menu takes like a minute. Does anyone else have this issue?

Also, the default settings are way too dark on my monitor? What do you guys have for Gamma, brightness and contrast?

About the game itself, I'm surprised at how quickly I got the magic back from when I played SOC. Shooting enemies is like a reflex since I was crouching to steady my aim and getting headshots easily. At the very beginning during the first night on-game I found a Bloodsucker not even 200 meters from the Ship with all the Stalkers. WTF! Way to ease noobs into the game GSC! (just kidding - this is why I love this series).
