Star Citizen Pre-Alpha: Hangar Module

That part is what has me scared from buying the Rear Admiral package that I've been looking at. If I'm understanding that correctly: I play the game for a while and take a break or something comes up and I go a few months without playing, yet I'm penalized for not playing and have to pay to access my ship/stuff (I guess it's like a monthly sub in that sense)?

Hopefully I'm just misinterpreting that and blew that out of proportion in my head but can anyone clarify? I was worried about missing the LTI before but that sounds like a non-issue after reading up on it and I hope this is too since I just pre-ordered the X Rebirth CE and would like to add this to the list.

Hangar fees do not need to be paid for pledge ships in any case. You can log out for any amount of time without repercussions.

the exact details is still vague, but they expressed their intentions about this. On wingman's hanger (their weekly youtube show) they said your not penalized for not playing the game. everything suspends and you can resume where you started off.

I might have this wrong, but how i understand it is, it only applies to original and veteran backers. regular backers pay the regular fees, similar to how LTI was cut off to regular backers.

I MIGHT BE TOTALLY WRONG AND I HOPE I'M WRONG. because i'm a regular backer and dont have any of the LTI benefits.

You'll have your starting hangar free forever. If you choose to purchase additional hangars you'd have to have enough funds to sustain them, most likely. Maybe they'll have some sort of system where your ships get impounded if you're gone long enough to run out of money for things not parked in your starting hangar so you can easily earn them back.

I'm pretty sure you're wrong. Logging back in to the game a year later to find that you're actually in debt or something is an easy way to ensure that people never come back.

Upgraded my pledge Hornet to Super, I was WAITING for this day. So excited to have a full on fighter to go with my Connie. Now to go stare at it in the hanger. For a year.

Thanks for the quick replies everyone. I did some research on the official forums and while I found mention of the "no fees for early pledge/initial garages" stated above I couldn't find anything concrete on the topic.

I do agree with epmode the more that I think about it, that it would be crazy if they penalized people who are unable to play for a while. I'm going to go ahead and go for the Rear Admiral package and crush my fear with faith Roberts Space Industries.

Surprisingly my excitement in earning the Super Hornet (or it's equivalent) during release is greater than my want of getting it right now. I'm getting all giddy about earning the credits and having it be my first purchase in-game.

Plus, my Constellation, Avenger, and M50 will be more than enough to start with!

My understanding with hangar fees is that the fees with reduce over time to eventually nothing during an extended break. They don't want you to "lose" ships or anything like that if you have to step away for awhile.

Loved the ad. Anyone got a link for HD version of the others? Thanks!

You can find them on RSI's YouTube channel.

Do i sound crazy if i said i paid 180 bucks for an all digital game with no physical items 1.5 years before its released?

Legendary game maker Chris Roberts once said: "Give me all your monies and I'll make the best damn space sim ever."

So are there any upcoming ship sales in the pipeline that we know of that could provide another big boost or is it back to business as usual until the dogfighting alpha?

UNLOCKED

Public Transportation System – Need to get from one place to another but don’t have a starship? We’re building a galactic transportation system. You can travel via transport from system to system in Star Citizen and even ship items (like a ship you need moved to another hangar.) With this stretch goal, we’ll expand this system: star liners, long range transports, charter ships and flyable shuttles!

26M Goal

Enhanced Capital Ship Systems – In addition to the command and control systems we’ve already outlined, we’re going to expand capital ship functions! Lead a damage control team to fight fires and repair key systems during battle, control internal bulkheads to slow boarders and man a number of consoles, like navigation and engineering, that will make commanding a capital ship feel even more immersive.

Unknown at the moment. My guess is we'll at the very least see a couple more flash sales. Likely of the M50 and the Starfarer. Freelancer / Constellations variants will come out at some point, depends on when the dogfighting alpha starts. I have a feeling it'll be postponed until 2014, but who really knows.

Letter from the Chairman: $24 Million!

26M goal = Star Citizen: Star Trek Edition :D

"Finally, one small change to the Hornet rollout. We’ve had a number of requests from backers eager to purchase the limited edition Super Hornet who will not be able to do so until the end of the month. Federal employees in the United States who are just getting back to work after the recent government shutdown are especially affected. We are grateful for your passion and would like to help however possible. With this in mind, we are going to keep the Super Hornet available an extra week through Monday, November 4th. We hope that helps give all of our existing backers an opportunity to upgrade to the F7C-M!"

How nice of them!

Exactly what I thought. They have to be careful doing things like this, they will lose the community if they get too greedy.

They are doing freaking FTL inside Star Citizen o_0. This will be funded fast!

it might be a little easier to swallow since there were threads earlier before the goal from people asking to extend the promotional period because of the shutdown. but yea it feels like everything is falling in their laps.

Yeah I have seen more and more people worried about this on the official forums.

I personally am a little concerned about the microtransaction nightmare that allready seems to be in place before the game is even out.

I worry how this will affect the game when it comes out

Patch is out, should be in the hangar now.

Got me all excited, nope just the regular F7C in hangar
They haven't given a time frame for when they're gonna start converting
the upgrade packages but i hope its before the superhornet special ends

I wouldn't worry about it. All they're doing is setting in place a system that'll help the game stay profitable (or at the very least break even) after the official release. As long as people are able to purchase everything with in-game credits and the gameplay is fun, it's all good. As tempting and awesome as all this new ship releases are ... it's really up to you. Nobody is forcing anybody to buy anything. And you get no real advantage by doing so anyway. Maybe a little head start, that's all. Sure, it may feel a bit like being the only one that's drinking juice in a house full of people doing coke sometimes. It's hard to resist. On the other hand though ... once you've spent enough, you can melt down your ships and exchange them for new ones, try them out in the hangar, etc. You really don't have to feel like you have to buy everything. You hear that, Rommel? :p

Quite pissed off at myself for not buying a Gladiator, now I am feeling like I should buy a Super Hornet even though it is not exactly what I am after. :( Stupid CIG making me want things.

I think I'm going to end up with a F7C-M and a Freelancer before the LTI deadline hits, if I can manage to shift my budget around a bit.

What guild is that, if you don't mine me asking?

I am looking for one, if a GAF one wouldn't take off.

A small group of friends that had a laid back "shipping" corp (we ended up doing more rat-ing and WH operations) in EVE, and we're planning on going with a similar setup SC. Shipping/trading and exploration (plus including security escorts for those ops) are our "main" goal, but we're planning on dabbling in a bunch of stuff. Have a smuggler, a bounty hunter, and a wetwork guy in our ranks too. Our experience in EVE in a wormhole has us interested in trying to get a manufacturing space station together at some point in the future too.

You are not paying if you are not playing. That's whats been said in one of the forum feedbacks.

I was looking at Aces as well, it seems like a good all-round group. Is it one of the larger ones?

Either them, or a dedicated fighter group.

It's a good group, what's nice is there are any number of roles to fill. If you want to be straight up combat there is a squadron for that. Or if you want to be anything else, chances are there is a squadron for that.

Aces is one of the larger ones.

Have about 275 members at the moment. Also is a signatory to PACT (Biggest Alliance). It's funny to me how organized this stuff has gotten even though the game is so far out.

PC gamers have a lot of experience with this stuff. Plus the spillover form EVE corps. is inevitable.

yeah. If you look at some shit games like Ikariam or some other timedestroyers people there can call friends 1am at night to get war going on.

Rule of thumb is the more people are there playing game the more people will create various factions and the more roleplayish game will become.

Eve is living proof of that.

Developers simply need to give people means.

I hope the way instances work invalidate the way these huge factions will operate.

That sounds cool on paper, but actual gameplay for those situations sounds horrible. Unless you are in those mega guilds of course.

If they can just hold people in reserve and instance people in as ships die, the whole system will be somewhat broken.

Instancing is something that CR/CIG needs to put out a long discussion on how they intend to go about it. Last they really spoke about it was back in November of last year iirc and it's the thing that's going to make or break this game imo
