Star Wars: A Musical Journey DVD

I picked up the soundtrack to the Revenge of the Sith earlier in the week. Not bad, what you would expect from a Star Wars soundtrack, but I was surprised to see the inclusion of a DVD called Star Wars: A Musical Journey included in the package. I just had the chance to watch some of it over my lunch hour, and let me say, for Star Wars fans, it's excellent.

The DVD is hosted by Ian McDiarmid, The Emperoror himself. He introduces each song with a little backstory, and then a music video starts with some of the most memorable music from the series. The footage they show usually relates to a certain them ("A Hero Rises", "A Hero ") and comes from all six films. I've only watched the first 5 or 6 so far, but it's been a nice package so far. Can't wait to the rest.

I picked up my copy at Best Buy, where it's on sale for $12 this week. Decent soundtrack and excellent DVD for 12 bucks. Can't go wrong. Anyone else seen it and have comments?

I liked it a lot. I do wish there was more "Sith" stuff on it; not so much to see new footage, but going back and watching it a year from now, it'll seem pretty sparse in comparison.

It really spells out the Star Wars story in musical format really well. The most emotional one IMO was the one where they used "Luke and Leia" from the ROTJ sountrack and had it just used footage it'd be perfect, but they they dropped the ball and started just zooming in on weird and creepy artwork with lens flares.

I really really like Anakin's theme; I forgot how much so until I watched this and realized that this idealistic kid grows up to be Vader... yeah I knew it but making the connection visually is just kinda haunting.

Oh, and the Gungan battle from TPM works really well with the Forest Battle Concert Suite from Jedi. :)

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing about what I"ve seen from Sith so far. It's mostly stuff from the trailer, so it would have been nice to get more, but I suppose they didn't want to give anything away. Still of the five or six videos I've seen so far, it's wonderful stuff. Great bonus!

I was surprised at the DVD. I expected it only to have the Duel of the Fates, Across The Stars and the new ROTS music video but it has quite a few original trilogy ones. Totally worth the $13.99 I paid for the soundtrack.

Not sure if it's limited edition or not. There was a sticker on the front of my CD that I got at Best Buy. Disk was inside the case along with the regular CD.

Ian McDiarmid was the coup of the series. I had no idea he was so young when Return was filmed, but damn if he didn't grow into his makeup :)

There are 16 vids on the DVD. Not sure total length, but I'd say we watched the first five or six today on lunch and they were about a half hour or so. Plenty of stuff on there yet to be seen, and it is indeed a nice package for the fans. Surpising that Lucas didn't try to milk this for another $15. :D
