Star Wars Battlefront 2 has now broken its all time players record on Steam

Can anyone offer any real insight as to why?

Seems odd that a game that's been out for years with very little noise around it and no live service element would show growth at this stage.

I still play it now and then.

If you want to play a Star Wars battle, this is the game to play.

The graphics are still insane, the game play is great and the sounds are epic.

Probably due to Andor season 2. Witcher 3 saw the same hype after their television series aired.

I wonder if it's still active on console too.
Really enjoyed this one after they improved on the terrible launch, it was probably my second most played multiplayer game last gen (after rocket league)

fortnite reignited people's interest in battlefront since the current season is strictly star wars weapons

Well its a star wars themed season in general i should say.

They just released a new Mandalorian warrior that you can buy and customize halo style

I love that this is happening. I know BF2 started off real rough, but it got better and better with time. It still looks and sounds amazing. The only thing I want more than a new Battlefront is a new Jedi Knight that I doubt we'll ever get unfortunately.

There's just been a ton of positive attention on Star Wars lately, which is great after Acolyte didn't do it any favors. The rerelease of Revenge of the Sith did really well. The Fortnite event is doing well. Andor did REALLY well. So, just a lot of positive attention. I think the high made people wanna play Battlefront 2 again, so they did. Doing so made people wonder if Battlefront 3 would ever be a thing, so now there's been a lot of campaigns made by content creators telling people to blast #Battlefront 3 and play it to maybe get it noticed. Will it get noticed? Not sure, but it's really cool to see.

Fortnite, that's it. Every other SW game should be having a nice bump right now.

Oh yeah, Andor and the ROTS re-release as well. Went to see the latter the other day, have no idea how this film is somehow considered "good" these days.

I'm playing it too but on Kyber, a mod with a brand new launcher, skipping the EA one, and offering server browsers, custom hosting, mod support etc, it's really great. Kyber is still in beta and not available to everyone yet, but I hope it will also bring some more life into this game.

I'd like a Battlefront 3 too, but the thing is, I always find multiplayer absolutely shit in most modern games, and I've had a lot more fun on Kyber than I ever did on the base game. Having server browsers is a complete game changer.
In the base game, you can spend forever trying to find a match, and most of the time you will play on the same maps over and over... The game has a lot of content, but when you play through the default auto matchmaking, you usually only see like 20% of the game's content, it's crazy.
Now that we can host our own servers and select the maps, modes etc that we want, it's insanely better and it feels like we have access to a lot more content, even if it's content that was actually always there.

If there was a battlefront 3, it could be cool, but I'm sure the multiplayer would still be shit, because it's modern multiplayer without any options.

I'd like to think that after the feedback they got from 1 and 2, that they'd hopefully approach 3 with even more care. Especially with all the attention the community is giving 2. Probably would help that if EA/Dice were to do it, their approach to Battlefield would be a good formula to follow in terms of listen to your community. Not just a little, but a whole lot. The EA versions of 1 and 2 were solid in their own rights IMO, but they still had plenty of room for improvement. I'd certainly hope if they were to do it and it happens (I hope so) that it ends up being the best Battlefront iteration yet. Because honestly it really should be after everything and with the interest and demand that clearly exists.

Did EA lose the license or somehting?. I never got why we didnt get a Battlefront 3. The first one sold 20mil, and the second game hit 13mil and that was a few years ago.

With the downward trajectary of Battlefield in terms of quality and sales, i would of though EA would be all over a Battlefront 3.

They're no longer the sole holder, hence why Outlaws and Ubisoft happened. But I guess they still have that relationship going.

Yeah, I always wondered the same. Maybe because of all the negative publicity it had before and around launch? I dunno. It definitely got better with time because of their changes, but I always thought 3 was coming and it never did.

I hope that this spike brings attention to it.

BF3 rumors swirling around seems to have people excited

Side note I still think BF2 is an amazing looking game.
True, who knows, DICE is a big studio, maybe they've are working on some BF3 concept or something.

I'd love a 3rd game by them with Frostbite destruction with physics and all !

Kyber 2.0 basically like a beefed up mod that allows people to play online with mods and does a lot of changes other than just character reskins. It was on beta so it probably got its full release now or on open beta testing? One other person mentioned kyber already but yeah 2.0 was being hyped by a friend of mine.

I love people saying they're gonna check it out again. Do so! You'd be contributing to this moment which could be certainly helpful if it all gets observed by the right people.

I know the traffic is already going up, but it sounds like tomorrow they're pushing to get even more engagement. But we'll see!

It looks awesome! There's a LOT of new characters. I saw some videos where the selection was pretty damn huge, lol.

EA turned the battlefront series around in 2015, 2017's Battlefront 2 shifted gears in the right direction and was a classic. Dice developed battlefront games are considered a success. A battlefront 3 sounds easy, heroes vs villain's with characters from Andor, Mandalorian etc.

Preferred the first one to be honest. I feel like they cluttered up the second game with add ons, smaller game modes and just all kinds of unnecessary shit that diverted from the battlefield CTF formula.

Good Star Wars game, the multiplayer mode is really cool. I pretty much only played the PvE mode, no stress. And its campaign is very good too.

Same although I just fired this up and its still really good. And it looks really impressive, especially considering I was running it on my gtx1650 laptop.

Id definitely welcome a #3. Lots of new environments and characters have been introduced that could be neat to play as.

does anyone know if EGS and Steam have crossplay? Tio Tim must've gave it away for free at some point because that's where I have it, but if there's no crossplay it will almost certainly be dead.

Wait, are you talking about Battlefront 2 or Battlefield V? :P
BFV deserves this treatment as well. Maybe because they know a new one is coming they're more chill.

EA should never have abandoned BFV or BF2 and a WW2 BFV could continue to get support alongside a modern day BF.
