My friend, I think you need to chill out a little bit -- nobody accused anybody of being wicked.
Your knowledge of IP law impresses me, you should teach it at university level....... like i do!
Again you completely missed my point about Mustafar x Sullust, but i'm not particularly interested pursuing a debate with you.
I am plenty chill, lol.
But people always accuse developers of being "convenient" as if they have this nefarious veil of what they want to do, when in development and first hand experience, it is nothing like that more often than not. My apologies if they was not your intent.
I am not speaking of law experience for IP's (nor would I ever comment on it), I am speaking of first hand development experience with dealing with licenses holders and licensees. I seen them reject things that legit are in the MLB or MLBPA which are two different licenses all together, as well as Cooperstown Collection, MiLB, etc. I was left scratching my head and baffled that they had to strictly follow the usually outdated and annoying Style Guides, when the on field players and teams since modified their own uniforms.
It made for unhappy die hard sports gamers, attacking devs and saying things like, "don't they watch baseball, are they blind", and they do not realize, yes, those guys at SCEA SD are passionate die hard sports/baseball fans. Some of the senior producers actually played in minor league level baseball, etc., they are just handcuffed with what they can and cannot do, depending on if they get an "ok go ahead", or a "no you cannot" email from their representative.
Knowing how Disney works with a friend who worked with Marvel, as well as years in Central Florida with family and friends who worked with Disney with licensing and other parts of the company, I am going to go out on a limb and say, it is not DICE picking and choosing and being ragtag.
Funny story, and you may know this since you know IP laws, I asked them how come so much stuff was included in the late 90's and early 2000's, and they said it was more Wild West and freedom back then, before laws changed, or companies decided to enforce them more. Sadly, the handcuffing is real, from my experience, but in some ways it is good. I would not want pink/neon guns or Stormtroopers with silly custom logos on them, etc..
