Star Wars Battlefront will not have ironsights

It's a core gameplay mechanic. You can't have both. It completely changes the way you move when in gunfights. With ADS your surroundings mean very little. Without they become everything.

I think it could work. Satisfy the players who want one option or the other.

your surroundings always matter if you aren't thinking about your surroundings while aiming you are doing it wrong

Hell you can have the same Field of view as third person if you set the settings correctly

aparently it bad because its "N00B" or "Scrub" tactics. also its because "your sitting still while aiming like a idiot"

honestly i really dont know, maybe some of these folks had a bad experience with it.

Ha ha.. really? Aiming down scopes to shoot on a game is now a "noob" tactic? Ha ha ha... I've been playing these games forever. Love that it's moved from the noob tube to actually now aiming a gun. Ha ha.

By attempting to please everyone you end up pleasing noone. Either design your game around ADS or don't. Options for the sake of options helps nothing.

Indeed, a common solution by us forum members is often "make it an option!" I see it all the time in the Diablo subreddit. If dev would listen to us we'd have 10 pages of toggles in each game.

It's a different camera angle, that's it. It changes nothing if DICE would have added no penalty for aiming(slowing down) and kept accuracy the same for both sides (aiming, hip fire).

Now we will most likely get a Zoom button for replacing ADS, and at the end of the day, the mechanics will stay the same as if it had ADS.

Both options can exist.

Why is aiming down sights and having zero gameplay difference, just a cosmetic difference in any shape or form a bad option which will change how the game plays?

Reminds me of
SmartScope-AR.jpg

Halo always had the zoom function, now every weapon works with it, regardless if it makes a difference or not.

It's interesting to see that so many gamers who have most, if not all, of their FPS experience occurring in a post-Call of Duty era think that if a game *doesn't* use aiming down the sights that said game is automatically going to be like CS.

There are a variety of shooters that don't require aiming down the sights to be effective. Counter Strike and Team Fortress 2 don't use aiming down sights and they are wildly different shooters.

Edit:typos

Come on guys, a Star Wars with ADS would betray what Star Wars is. Have you seen the movies? Non of those troopers had ADS, and it was obvious.

No but really why do people care o have ADS. As long as the game is built around hip fire there is no problem. ADS don't make a shooter good, and I would argue don't make a game any better. Look at CS.

yesssssss....finally i can be mobile while shooting.

that's my biggest gripe with uncharted mp. two people strafing 1 foot to the left and to right.

PvZ Garden Warfare doesn't have iron sights, but L2 still zooms in a little or a lot, depending on the class. I'll be interested to see if they take a similar route, given that both are 3rd person and published by EA.

I understand people like it, but I do feel ads totally changes gameplay for the worse. I'm really surprised that theyre leaving it out. If the game is going to be more old school or skill based on the whole then Ill check it out.

Actually, I'm falling back toward not having an option for ADS. You guys make sense. If you want to do the zoomy zoom, play a sniper class.

Peace.

No, it's just that people are saying it changes the game and makes it faster paced which also means it takes a tad more skill to master. Which then some called elitist for no discernible reason.

Iron Sight are autoaim for people that doesn't know how to play FPS properly. (run while shooting)

I don't even know where to begin with this post.

It's an aim mode/design that leads games down paths that lead to different playstyles (as it influences speed of play and weapon choice), and I think anyone saying that one requires more 'skill' (rather than a different skillset) than the other is full of it. ADS 'slowing' the game down by virtue of slowing down movement once the shooting begins mainly means that horizontal tracking/leading is downplayed and the need for precision is increased (esp. if the game does locational damage). Besides, tracking a dodging or xlocing target w/ a projectile or unscoped sniper rifle in UT99 (no ADS) plays differently than trying to land headshots in Planetside 2 (ADS), and both of those differ from similar play in Battlefield 2142 and Team Fortress 2.

Edit: For the record, I wouldn't want ADS in UT99 or Battlefront, much like I wouldn't want ADS removed from Battlefield or Planetside (even though I'd probably do better with it gone).

Edit 2: Missed this in my first read through:

Depends on the game, but I can assure you that with ADS your surroundings mean a hell of a lot in every game with them that I've played, at least. Tunnel visioning will get you killed and it's an easy trap to fall into with the mechanic in place -- whereas in a game without it you're generally always moving and looking for other people doing the same, so you never fall victim to it.

I have no clue why some members are happy about this. ADS should be a requirement for any shooters.
Quake 2 with ADS? *shivers*

I simply don´t like the dynamic of fire from the hip & jump around shooters.

I never liked Halo, I really like Destiny.

CS never clicked with me, COD4 was fantastic.

In the end it´s about pace. ADS shooters are usually a little slower.

I like that.

I feel the same way. I think no ADS was fine in old school shooters but in newer games I don't enjoy it as much. It's why I can't get into Wolfenstein TNO. ADS with iron sights in that game sucks and I don't enjoy the hip Fire at all. And yes I did play a lot of old pc shooters growing up

Wtf at some people saying ADS is some sort of objective improvement in all FPS games. No.

Depends on the game. Same can be said of hip fire

No it shouldn't be

Being happy this game doesn't use ADS = hating ADS?

I'm pretty sure people ITT are happy not just because there is no ADS.
They're happy because it reaffirms that DICE is making Battlefront 3, not Battlefield Star Wars Edition.
It's like people wanting ADS in the next CS, the combination of game mechanics is what makes all FPS games different,
part of these series difference is their lack of ADS.

can there be a a separate battlefield star wars edition?

ill play this idea and battlefront both! :)

Precisely. I had feared that this game may be Battlefield with a Star Wars skin. But this small news means the game has to fundamentally different to Battlefield, and that's only a good thing.

I remember in the Celebration footage that the zoom reminded me of Halo but I didnt think much of it at the time. Didnt know it would be such important news. I guess this is just further confirmation.

YES thank goodness. This would have been terrible imo especially when it's a third person shooter at heart

Exactly. I have been worried about this game since its announcement that it would be a Battlefield game with a Star Wars skin. And every bit of news that comes out makes me worry just a little less. This news has given me hope that we are getting a experience that is BattleFront, and not just shooter no.245

Ahhh... I'm down for whatever. Love Socom 3rd person, love Plants vs Zombie 3rd person, love BF,COD,Halo First person... I couldn't care less what they use to shoot... This game for me will be fun regardless. Super Star Wars nerd here.... so not much can bring me down on it.

You don't need to look down iron sights to aim in a FPS.

Well ya.. you're right. And I don't really need to be looking at the rim when I shoot a basketball..... but I know what you mean... I'll digress on just saying I don't find any sort of deal with this game using ADS, hip shots, or whatever.

Will it still have a mini zoom where you slow down for more accuracy (without scope attachment)?

If so wouldnt that gameplay mechanic still be there? People are just celebrating not having graphic of the gun getting in the way?

I would like to point out to everyone saying "did you see a stormtrooper ever use ADS??!?!"

well did you ever see a stormtrooper with good aim?!?!

lol ok done joking =)

most likley this

Yup, its so frustrating the amount of times I've had my friends over asked them to try play Halo with me, and they ask me wheres the aim down sights button or the sprint button, then getting frustrated.

A simple graphic is all they need because they're used to it.

Hipfire was the superior way to play the greatest FPS of all time (Killzone 2); so I'm OK with this.

ok.
