Star Wars Battlefront will not have ironsights

I, for the life of me, cannot figure out how they are going to cram experience earning and gun attachments into this game. Furthermore, if they want to have enough guns to match, lets say, Hardline, do they have the power to make weapons up? The Star Wars movies don't really have a lot of different gun models (which is what they can pull from).

This is not going to go well over the mainstream gamers that gotten use to playing with ADS over the years. This would actually hurt the sales in the long run and can see DICE patching ADS in.

You mean I have to actually aim my gun? Lame.

/s

This is how it should be. There was a thread about UT99 recently and how it's never really been topped. I think the ADS-style gameplay made popular by COD4 really destroyed the feel of modern day shooters in comparison. I hope ADS becomes "out of style" some day because I always felt like it made shooters feel awkward and stiff rather than organic and skillful.

After reading all these comments, I'm sorry 343i. I see the dilemma you're in with trying to please "modern gamers".

But fuck ADS. It is not needed.
Considering ADS in Halo 5 is mostly cosmetic the solution is obvious. Just include an option to use classic scopes, that way everyone would be happy. You want to have half your screen obstructed when you zoom? You use ADS. You prefer the simplicity and elegance of the traditional zoom? You use classic scopes. Easy.

And yeah, not having ADS is Battlefront is awesome news. The trend of shoehorning ADS into every (console) FPS is the worst. Destiny for example would be so much more fun to play if it didn't have ADS and all those awful accuracy and movement speed penalties associated to it...

Thank god for PC, because right now it is the only place you can find FPS without that ADS filth.

I think ADS should be like a replacement for the crosshair. So the game has no crosshair, but the hip fire is still just as accurate as ADS.
So the purpose of ADS is just to get a better idea of where your shots are going, instead of being critical to accuracy.

Wolfenstein kinda does this (even though it still has a corsshair, but I disable it with a console command anyway)

Hopefully next they take the nonsense instant kill/massive damage melee attacks that plague so many shooters. Bring back knife fights!

I wouldn't be surprized if non-hero soldiers didn't have a melee ability at all. DICE could change that of course, but the series has never incorporated melee with gun-toting characters.

Sounds silly and people would just screendot anyway.

...would prefer backstab than ...headstab? Backstab promotes flanking, headstab promotes... aiming up?

Ever play a FPS with knife fights? Aiming for the head and getting a 1 hit kill wasn't easy and made them infinitely more fun and rewarding to actually get a knife kill. They're pretty meaningless in modern games. Backstab isn't skillful if it is an automatic kill.

The FPS I play are CSGO, TF2 and BF4. Don't think there's a headstab mechanic in any of those. Maybe BF4 but I'm not sure. It just sound silly. The head hitbox isn't small when 2 people are neck to neck. Just flicking your mouse up before stabbing for a one shot doesn't seem like good design.

Or

Or

Or

Maybe, the fact that they stuck to their guns (no pun intended) and decided a 'modern mechanic' is not needed in every game, which harkens back to the days where people didn't fucking stand still/or move at a slow pace whilst shooting thier guns.

This a millions of times.

Iron Sight are autoaim for people that doesn't know how to play FPS properly. (run while shooting)

In PC people can play Team Fortress 2 and CS:GO perfectly.

Really just a crosshair toggle is what you want. No need for a game mechanic designed around not having one.

Fair enough, but I still think ADS is more fun when it's not critical to accuracy. When you hipfire and suddenly the bullets start flying in multiple directions is annoying.

A small accuracy penalty is fine, but most games just exaggerate it.

can't they released some news that all of us can get behind and criticized for no reason for the love of god please we need something to criticize because it just wouldn't be right.

this vitriol sitting behind our monitors isn't going to release itself so please, developers, get your shit together and start releasing bad news or kiss your business goodbye

What non-ADS shooters do you play?

ADS pretty much guarantees shallow gunplay, non-existent recoil and just an overall easier experience. I dunno about you but I don't like my multiplayer games to be easy/scrubby. I enjoy my skill shining and not being held back by scrub mechanics and a skill ceiling.
I don't care about your pro skills. I just want to have fun.

Only if there is an intentional hip fire penalty, if you have a hip fire reticule int TP what you're just pointing a dot at a target same as in FP ADS. If anything TP is more haxxy with the whole being able to see around corners business.

What is the field-of-view on the third person mode? If it is really narrow like the Gears of War series, than your last point is invalid.

Can the people dropping this game for the lack of ADS tell us their age? That would solve us a lot of doubts.

Thank you.

pd: ADS on Shooters sucks. Jumping, running, rolling, while you are firing an opponent...that's what the real deal is. 2 idiots standing still firing eachother...it's so idiot I can't understand it.

Actually a ton of blasters and rifles in Star Wars look like they have scopes

That said, I'm glad DICE is brave enough to design a shooter without ADS if it feels right.

Just imagine how Idiot would look someone trying to aim with that.

I'm 32, I have played plenty of games without ads, what are you talking about?

Do you realise how sanctimonious this sounds? I play Arma 3 with a bunch of people that take it very seriously, not one of them sounds as stuck up as half the posts in this thread.

It sounds just as bad as people that won't play the game without ADS. Or that EVERY FPS somehow needs ADS.

Get off your ADS high horse.

Isn't the fun from a pvp game derived from competition?
That competition doesn't have to be elitist. And the game has to be fun for beginners too, unlike counterstrike which fucking sucks for people without years of playing nothing but FPS games.
