Glad to hear it's doing great, but I really don't like Star Wars :(

Then why would you be glad to hear it's doing great? It's not like Star Wars is some indie film that's finally getting the appreciation it deserves.

Good news! I watched Episode VI today... I gotta say it's by far the best movie of the three IMO. IV sucked heh.

Anyway, can't wait for Episode III. My expectations are very, very high.

Wow, simply amazing.

I also read about how the DVDs smashed Amazon's preorder record with 85k compared to the previous record holder LOTR:TTT with 50k.

But geez, so much SW merchandise came out yesterday so it's to be expect. The DVDs, the soundtrack rereleases, Battlefront, Apprentice of the Force, I believe that's it. But I think it's rather obvious that probably 99% of the sales came from the DVDs. Worth every sale I think too, this is a great set. The films restoration and quality is unbeliveable and unlike any of the previous releases. They literally rival the PT DVDs in video and sound.

unbelievable after all this time and all the hate on the new trilogy that the originals still command such consumer power.

The DVDs are really awesome. I watched Empire last night. It's been a while since I'd last watched it seriously. Sooooo good. Those damned prequels had been starting to somewhat taint my perceptiuon of the original trilogy and starting to make me doubt that they were actually as good as I remembered.

And yeah, the restoration is pretty amazing. Even on my fairly crappy TV I was sitting there thinking "this looks SO good."

I still dread having to deal with Jabba being there in Mos Eisley, the re-re-imagined Greedo scene, and the ROTJ musical number, but I guess that's a relatively small price to pay.

I watched ANH last night. I've got to say... I'm happy. If I'm as happy with ESB and RotJ as I was with ANH, I think I could live without the unedited originals. We'll see...

yep, the DVDs are pretty awesome. WAtched both ANH and TESB so far.

DVD sales are amazing, should nicely setup a huge turnout for Ep III.

... hence I hate this news.

Surprise surprise.

I'm glad the rest of us who think otherwise aren't alone in the thinking that the changes to the films aren't that big of a deal.

...and to think that I found the concept of "Casablanca -- Special Edited Version for Seniors" funny at one time.

well not really...yet
SW and ROTJ may have gotten screwed, but Empire turned out perfect, damn I dont ever need to see the original version, as the one on the DVD is near perfect, of course id still love to have it on DVD too, but its obsolete now.

ROTJ though.....damn that Dance number

ROTJ's dance number isn't really any more or less stupiud than the original. Plus we lose Yub Nub, plus we get to see that more people care about the fall of the empire than just a few rebels on endor, plus we get for the most part much better lightsabers, and a significantly improved rancor scene.. empire is ALL improvement. erased matte lines and transparencies, better color timing (yoda is actually green again), a much better bespin, etc.

The only movie I am still on the fence about is ANH. Jabba and greedo still suck, but everything else is much better as well.. but jabba and greedo still suck. mos eisley looks 1000 times better.

I agree from an artistic standpoint he should release the originals, but truth be told I do have the originals and now SSE's sitting next to each other on the shelf (I painstakingly transferred my definitive collection to double layer dvd) and after watching all three now, I can honestly say the originals will get virtually no airtime. aside from the dance number, jabba, and greedo, the SSEs are uniformly better than the originals.
